“They say walking away from the one you love is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do…”
King Smith is blocked.
The R&B superstar's latest project is producing the soundtrack for the book-to-film, Everything in the Stars. When the crooner hits a writer's block, he links up with his former songwriting partner (and former lover) songstress Silk Matthews for inspiration. Soon, the two rekindle their creative spark and the sensual memories of their romance resurface.
Social media exec Shauna McIntyre supports her boyfriend King, but struggles with his reunion with Silk. King’s late nights at the studio with the sexy siren begin to take a toll on her. When tensions reach a fever pitch, Shauna finds comfort in an unlikely source: Everything in the Stars novelist Jake Vasquez.
This anticipated sequel to The Follow finds a love affair in peril. Will a shot at a hit song destroy King and Shauna’s love, forcing them to find solace in the arms of new (and old) loves?
BONUS CONTENT: The first chapter of the spin-off novella, The Lamar St. Jon Experience, is included.
Eliza David is the contemporary romance author of eleven self-published novels, including the Cougarette series. She was born and raised on the noisy South Side of Chicago, but now lives in quiet Iowa City, one of the renowned Cities of Literature. A member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA), Eliza also maintains a local literary presence, serving on the Iowa City Public Library’s Board of Trustees, moderating The Scarlet Boudoir romance writing group at The Writers’ Rooms, and serving as an annual headlining author at the Iowa City Book Festival.
In addition to writing the naughty words, Eliza is a blogger as well, having served as a contributing writer for The Good Men Project and Thirty on Tap. Toward the close of 2018 and start of 2019, Eliza will be featured in three upcoming anthologies: Best Women's Erotica: Volume 4, The Sexy Librarian's Dirty 30: Volume 3, and Cleis Press' Erotic Teasers. In 2018, she was selected as a Pitch Wars mentee for her next project, The Lamar St. Jon Experience.
When she’s not writing, working full-time, or raising two children with her loving husband, Eliza enjoys reading throwback Jackie Collins, acting out on Twitter, and indulging in the occasional order of cheese fries.
The gang is back in this stunning sequel to The Follow. The book picked up where we left off in book 1, but cast of characters have gone through a bit of a change.
Shauna and King are as in love as ever before, but there is something missing. They both are having a hard time finding time for each other because of the demands of their careers. Well you know that spells disaster in any relationship. Add in a couple of outsiders , one from King's past and someone new to Shauna, and things get even shakier.
At one point I really just wanted to shake them both. In some ways they both have matured, but in a lot of ways they are still young and dumb. One person who really surprised me was Lamar. He was a different person by the end of this book.
This book took my emotions on waves of fury, happiness and sympathy with all of the changes the characters were going through. One thing that never changed between Babygirl, aka Shauna and King was the sexual chemistry. They were smoking!
I have to mention the epic cameo by CeeCee Banks, The Cougarette herself, in this one. I loved the way she was woven into the story and the role she played with Shauna. I won't say much more or I will spoil it for you. If you haven't read The Cougarette series, do yourself a favor and cop them.
The author gave me the HEA that I love, but left the door open for more adventures for this crazy couple. I can't wait to see what Eliza comes up with next!
I was so excited to what happily ever after looked like for my favorite fictional couple. Much like their beginning, the future wasn't without some drama. Eliza kept me on the edge of my seat and nervous to turn the page yet again. She gave Shauna and King more depth as we witnessed the changes they went through. King's addiction and sensitivity as an artist threatened to destroy everything they've built. Shauna's insecurity and uncomfort as a celebrity's significant other chipped at the foundation as well. It was very entertaining to see King and Shauna handle some pretty amazing hurdles. They got themselves into some ridiculous predicaments that left me hopeful, frustrated, irritated, relieved and amused.
I would definitely suggest this series time and time again.
Eliza David has done it again. She's my go-to for great romance. Singlehandedly, she's convinced me not to give up on the genre. This book knocks it so far out of the park, the ball is in the next county. And I don't say that lightly.
I absolutely loved the first part of the series for its realness and honesty. Once again, we're back with King and Shauna. What I adore about them is that these are two people who have been through a lot, together and apart, and they are doing what they can to make things work. Anyone who has ever had a partner and struggled after the "honeymoon phase" will understand these two.
They're doing the best they can with their insecurities. Nothing is glossed over. King still has to manage his addiction, and Shauna is still guarded in her trust for him. They're also learning to balance asking for what they need while being there for each other. It's a hard place to be in the easiest of times, let alone when both of them have to deal with their respective jobs.
Sure, there's a bit of fantasy involved here. After all, it is erotic romance, and that's what people want. So King and Shauna are, naturally, exceptionally attractive and have high-power careers. Despite that, these are relatable, down-to-earth people, and their inner (and sometimes outer) challenges are relatable. When they both feel neglected, and like the relationship is losing a bit of steam, they each have to learn what it means to invest in one another. That's what we're showing up for, the moment when they reconnect and decide that they're better together than apart.
The sex, as always, is steamy. But what I like with these two is that there's an undercurrent of having each other's hearts. The sensual moments aren't just about getting off or being all hot and worked up. They're about connection and trust. The path of their physical intimacy mirrors the path of their emotional journey. Although King and Shauna begin the book as an established couple, this is genuinely a romance about them falling in love all over again. It's glorious.
Naturally, there has to be a bad guy, and oh, boy, is there. I didn't spot it coming. Nor did I expect to see a character I enjoyed hating end up quasi-saving the day. I loved the surprises and the plot twists. It is, after all, the characters and storyline I keep coming back for in these books.
If you're looking to experience a full range of emotions reading this, you won't be disappointed. There's humor, anguish, rage, sweetness, sexy times, moments of triumph, and even some what-the-heck thrown in there.
I can't wait to see what else is in store. I don't know if we'll ever revisit King and Shauna in their own story again, but it doesn't matter. I felt like we had closure, but I also felt like there could be room for more. To me, that's just about the perfect ending.
For gorgeous writing, a story that grabs and holds your attention, and a beautiful reconnecting romance, this gets 5 stars.
In book one, The Follow, and I immediately fell in love with King and Shauna as their romance took off, despite the pressures of King’s R&B career and Shauna’s determination to remain independent.
The Follow 2: Blocked is the follow up novel in King and Shauna’s romance, as King suffers writers block and is forced to reach out to an old flame for help. Several new characters are introduced in this novel, including author, Jake, and fellow singer, Silk. Jealousy ensues as King and Shauna’s love is put to the test.
Author, Eliza David, eloquently picks off right where we left off in King and Shauna’s passionate romance. Like many relationships, their love becomes intermingled with the stressors of their respective lives. The defining lesson of this book, though, is the way in which each overcomes their jealousy, pressure, strain and insecurities.
A love story for the ages, as told with modern day influences, as Eliza preserves the supporting characters we met in The Follow with stars from her Cougarette Series and fresh personalities. I loved this look at romance after the initial attraction “fades!”
The second book of The Follow series, Blocked is an entertaining rocker romance by Eliza David. This is definitely not a standalone. Make sure you read The Follow first.
King and Shauna are now a couple, but life still isn't easy for them. They struggle with being long-distance while King travels. King's sexual addiction is well explored, as one never recovers from addiction. This is written with honesty and care.
Their story includes some good humor, especially over the blowjob. It also includes jealousy, trust issues, aggressive women, and more. I love the writing and find the storyline riveting.
I highly enjoyed The Follow 2: Blocked, and I highly recommend it to any fans of rocker romances.
First, I highly recommend reading The Follow, if you haven’t already, prior to reading part 2. BOTH are great reads. What I love about The Follow 2: Blocked is that we get a glimpse of what happens in relationships AFTER the “happily ever after” we ended withnin book one. In this book, we get a glimpse of the vulnerabilities and insecurities that the characters experience while trying to hold on to what they have for each other. A great read with great characters, who have some complexities, but not so many that you get lost. The book is well-written, twists are well-timed and not over done and it’s still a beautiful love story.
Shauna McIntyre and King Smith return for more romance and drama in The Follow 2: Blocked. Eliza David's characters really come to life within the pages of this novella and once again, Shauna, the PR dynamo has to deal with her talented music man's inability to get right within their relationship. An old flame from King's past and a new suitor for Shauna's affections make this book a fun read, right up until the climactic ending. Well, I'm not gonna give it away, check it out yourself!
Lawd...Eliza David put me through some changes with this one. King and Shauna are still going strong when this one begins. King is still good with his therapy but the couple isn't spending as much time with each other as they used to. Shauna got a promotion and King is working on a movie soundtrack. And he is experiencing writers block. So Slim in all his wisdom decides to call in one of King's old songwriting partners...who just happens to be an ex. Shauna missing the attention of her man, starts to get a little attention elsewhere. AND DRAMA ENSUES!!!
King and Shauna were so back and forth with each other in this one but I get it. King know he was dead wrong in what he said.... but I'm glad he realized how much he loved Shauna. Shauna had her faults in this one too but I think she was just too quick to react. She was dead wrong in using his addiction against him. Shauna was right about King using sex as a band-aid but that was part of the addiction. I think he really grew through his issues in this one. I loved that he wrote those letters. I wish I knew what Slim's said. I also like how the author made King vulnerable in this one. I mean he was the alpha sex symbol but he also showed his sensitive side. I think he cried like 3 times but it fit how he was feeling at that time. It was great to go on this journey with these characters. This was the perfect ending to this series.
Everything about The Follow 2 was done so well: thoughtful characters, great plot lines, and the suspense...I want more! I took my time reading this installment and I'm glad I did.
I love a good romance where there's a real conflict between characters who come to realistic endings. Wonderfully done. I'm looking forward to the Lamar experience. :-)
I am always impressed by sequels that operate as standalone works. Though King and Shauna are still the backbone to this tale, the supporting characters are the meat on the skeleton. Loved the story as a whole. The tornado that is K&S' relationship is as strong as ever. With enough twists and turns, to take the reader on the ebb & flow that is their love. Bravo! IMO, Eliza's best work.
King Smith and Shauna...Man, I was a little bit worried about them when they broke up on the middle of the story. King had writer's block and chose block his girl out. The.decision was flawed. In the end. All was well...
