Gunshots Reported on Norumbega

Police said Wednesday night that they could not locate any evidence of gunfire after about a dozen residents reported hearing shots.

About 12 different residents reported hearing multiple gunshots in the northern part of town Wednesday night, but police said an exhaustive search did not uncover any evidence of gunfire.

The first call came in at 6:39 p.m. and several more poured in shortly thereafter, according to Sgt. Michael Head.

"We had numerous calls, a whole bunch of calls of gunfire over a wide range of the northern part of town," Head said.

Police dispatched a helicopter and canvassed the area where the calls were made, narrowing the search to the area between the 400 and 600 blocks of Norumbega Drive, Head said.

Still, police found no bullet holes or shell casings, Head said.

"We couldn't find any evidence or the source of the gunfire," Head said. "We searched the area as best we could but we couldn’t find anything."

The incident marks the second time this month that gunshots were reported but no victims or suspects could be found. The first came on Oct. 8, when . A single shell casing was recovered from the street in that shooting.
