Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Receives FAA Grant

$4 million in grants to reconstruct taxiway infrastructure

MESA, Ariz., 2012-08-31 — /travelprnews.com/ — Gateway Airport received a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to fund the Taxiway Papa Reconstruction project. FNF Construction was awarded the construction contract.

“Investing in new and upgraded facilities at Gateway Airport is one of the most important factors in creating economic development opportunities in the East Valley,” said Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Board Chairman and Mesa Mayor Scott Smith. “The award of this grant shows that the FAA recognizes Gateway’s success and our need to improve the airport to accommodate the increase in passengers.”

In July, the Airport Authority Board approved the reconstruction project to begin in September 2012. The scope of work includes the reconstruction of pavement areas:

  • Taxiway Papa 1,800′ long x 75′ wide
  • 2,000′ x 35′  adjoining shoulders
  • Aircraft holding area 150′ x 500′ adjacent to Runway 30C
  • Drainage and  lighting systems
  • New Compass Calibration Pad

The FAA grant is for $4,050,005 and requires a 10% match divided between the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority funds.
