KNOXVILLE, TENN. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team (1-3) trailed early and couldn't recover on Sunday, stumbling in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of (RV) Tennessee (4-0).
 
• Tennessee pounced out on top immediately, when McKinley Burkett netted her first goal of the year when she hammered home a rebound in the third minute. The Lady Volunteers would strike once more just before the end of the half thanks to Anna Bialczak finishing off a cross with under a minute to play in the period.
 
• Alyssa Beck resumed her strong offensive play, logging a team-high three shots, accounting for half of CofC's attempts for the game.
 
• Despite the loss, Genevieve Henderson submitted a stalwart effort with a six-save performance.
 
"We played a tough, athletic Tennessee team today and we hung with them step-for-step for 90 minutes," head coach Christian Michner said. "We're disappointed in the result, but very proud of how we played and the chances we created. We can take a lot of positives from this trip and I know it will help us moving forward as we get ourselves ready for the CAA season."
 
The Cougars return home Friday, when they'll look to get back on track against the Presbyterian Blue Hose.
