Fxing a Safety Razor?

LO all! My Parker butterfly has fallen apart! I cannot figure out how to get it back together. The threading has me puzzled: tightening the base seems to lift the shaft upward, and that opens the doors, not closes them.

It worked before and I'm as sure as I can be that I haven't lost a piece. Yet I simply can't reassemble it so it works again; very frustrating!

Suggestions would be most welcome.

You need to engage the arms of the doors under the safety guards and hold the entire top while spinning the knob. You might actually need to do a few turns with the doors freely spinning around in relation to the baseplate first.

The doors are connected to a shaft that is reverse threaded to the knob inside the handle.

This happened to me with a Parker razor and I ended up breaking it accidentally trying to fix it.

Old Gillette Rockets are built like this, only out of brass. Parker TTO need to be opened and closed carefully because one quarter turn too much will put the whole works out of whack.

You need to get the shaft the doors on to thread far enough on the knob to close properly and to only open just enough to get a blade in. If the shaft the doors are on isn't seated far enough on the bottom knob it will pop off the baseplate where it catches on the ends to open and close as it rises.

At the end of the day, if you can't get it just right, don't be disturbed. You're not the only one who has had this problem.

Be gentle because the connection to that shaft that the doors and center bar inside pivot on is very fragile.

I chalked mine up as a loss pretty quickly and replaced it. I have another TTO Parker and I take care to not over open or close it.

A vintage Super Speed is what you need.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. I have a Feather Popular on order, which I understand locks to prevent you turning it too far; so this won't happen. I've wanted to try that one for a while. I also kept saying I should order another to have a backup in case this happens, of course I never got aroundtuit ;-) Now I will.
