“Swimming has never been the same since the new Neptune arrived. I easily set it up and jump in for my swim. I forget about the world around me, like I am in my own personal concert jamming to my favorite tunes. The quality of the sound underwater is amazing, and before I know it, my 2-hour swim is over.”–Henri Schoeman, South African Triathlete Champion

*****Original Post*****
My followers know me as Fat Boy Gettin' Skinny and have followed my amazing journey on Facebook,[...] Instagram and Twitter as I have chronicled my nearly 100 pound weight loss over the past 12 months. And my followers know that I am an avid fan of FINIS products because much of my weight loss has come from the swimming pool and my 2 per day workouts. When I walk pool side I look like a traveling FINIS bill board as I am wearing so much black and yellow that I look like an over grown bumble bee. I have the FINIS Swim Performance Monitor, Freestyle Snorkel, Swimmer's Snorkel, snorkel cardio cap, snorkel dry top, Zoomer fins, agility paddles, Finis goggles and swim cap.
So, of course when I wondered allowed, "Hmmm I'm bored swimming, I wonder if they have some kind of water proof contraption that I could use to swim under water?" The first place I headed was to the FINIS website and ALAS there was the FINIS Neptune Underwater MP3 player! And I was an instant fan and ponied up the money to have one delivered - even paying extra shipping to get it over night!
Pros:
*If you ever wondered what it would be like to completely lose yourself to some incredibly jazz music, or classical music, or blues, or reggae or rock or blue grass or all of the above... just put a set of these babies next to your head my Gettin' Skinny Nation! My first 55 laps in the pool after putting on this amazing technology were like entering heaven, I didn't even know that I was swimming. I often changed my pace to match the beats of the songs I liked. It was a truly marvelous feeling.
*The music made me feel like I was in another realm. Lap after lap melted by and I just kept stroking losing myself to the melodies. The jaw bone conduction technology gives you the feeling that a rock concert is emanating from within your head outward! And if you put ear plugs in the sound is even more incredible and the experience is more awesome!
* The product is simple to use, simple to load music and I've heard that it might have problems with books but since I listen to music I didn't have that problem.
*It came with instructions to convert ITunes music but I don't use ITunes so it was of no concern to me. I simply downloaded music to it and it played, play lists and all!
**It fit well on my goggles but a swim cap makes it absolutely perfect and secure.
This fat boy gettin' skinny would almost say, "Buy this DAMNED THING right now!!! It is a must have gadget!
Cons:
It stopped working after 55 laps! And that was annoying as HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It became intermittent, would chime in then out then cut on then cut off and I went from paradise to hell!!!!!!! Shame on you FINIS!
So i used it the next day and it worked for about 15 laps before it went bad. I wanted the music so badly that I would press play, it would play four minutes, shut off, I'd press play again, it would shut off again and I would do this over and over again. Someone in a lane next to me asked me if everything was okay because I kept messing with the back of my HEAD!!!!!!
Battery life could be better. I swim for longer than 2 hours some times and, though it didn't cut off, the battery life seemed low when I took it off.
Listen, Gettin' Skinny Nation, if you are one of my followers - and you all know how much I love FINIS - I'm going to say, "Hold up on this purchase for right now!" I contacted AMAZON and they've already sent me another one out (like most Ricky tic!) and I'm going to put another couple of hundred laps on it and I'll let you know how the replacement unit works! I'll even upgrade my review to 5 stars if FINIS can get this technology right!
It's not a concert quality system with crazy bass, but it really sounds decent under water. I saw a guy with his on in the sauna and the hot tub, heck he never took the darned thing off from the time he got in the pool, sauna and then the steam room. He had tunes the whole darned time! He was one of the reasons I bought that darned thing! So, give me a week or so and I'll let you know if you should buy one or not after I check out how the replacement works.
Anything can show up broken. But what a company does to fix it is what matters.
Fat Boy Gettin Skinny signing off!

As someone who really relies on music during workouts, my only regret is that I did not buy this sooner, as I've completely converted to swimming for cardio now.
My first impression of the Neptune on intitial use (only used it for the first time today) is that it is leaps and bounds above the SwiMP3 and is a merket leader once more. The sound is crystal clear and there are several "graphic equalizer" options to choose from. The display is a welcome feature giving feedback and simplicity to use instinctively. I prefer not having a lump on the back of the goggles, so that is a slight drawback in comparison to the old SwiMP3, but the new set up without the fiddly USB connection looks great. The new connector doesn't need a cover (I'm not sure about this, but time will tell). The netted bag is a nice addition to stop the wires getting tangled up. It is simple to use and sounds great.
I'll come back after a few months to report on any long term issues or benefits.
UPDATE - after 6 months it's still going strong and I'm really happy with it. The battery life is good (2-3 weeks of use, which equates to around 12 hours in the pool for me). You also get a good indication as it's running down so you can charge it up before it dies mid-session. The connecting cable has remained intact and I've had no technical issues. Overall, I'm still really impressed.
