Why this petition matters

Started by Chloe Sharratt

Over 400 horses die every year due to horse racing. When they are no longer good for racing, they are often shot or slaughtered for meat (known as wastage). Horses born into the racing industry that do not become racing horses are no use to the industry and are discarded.

Horses are such unique and intelligent animals, we don’t need to use them for entertainment; they help so many people every year with autism, mental health, and other disabilities. Let’s save them and stop this unjust industry from murdering more vulnerable horses.

This petition calls to the British Horseracing Authority to ban this unethical sport for the rich and greedy.

Failing that, this petition urges you to make changes to the racecourses, to provide safer grounds, safer fences (or ban them completely), reduce distances in races, reduce number of runners in race, remove dangerous race categories, and provide rehabilitation for retired race horses.
