Puppet Shows - Active Reader's Theater - Prop Stories

Prop stories are an interactive twist on reader's theater and puppet shows! They are perfect for whole group reading activities to promote active listening but this resource also includes shorter scripts for small groups as well!

Here’s how they work:

✿ Print out props and attach them to a craft stick. They are provided in black and white to print on colored paper or to have your students color them before laminating. Color images are also included for vibrant color printing.

✿ For whole group, hand out the props and you can read the story out loud. There are highlighted words. Every highlighted word indicates a “part” or a “prop.” The students listen for their “part” and hold up their prop every time their “name” is called.

✿ Small groups can choose from small group prop stories and rotate through so everyone gets a chance to read and hold up props.

The resource includes 3 whole group participation stories that are more lengthy and intended to be read by the teacher. There are shorter and easier stories (they vary in reading level) and familiar nursery rhymes available as well. There is a total of 18 stories included in the bundle.

There are two ways to prep these activities and stay organized. Included in the main file "Prop Stories and Puppet Shows," are every single printable prop and puppet needed and they are labeled for ease of use. Also included are separate index files for blackline and color printing that show what page each prop is on and what stories you will need them for.
