Fated and Forbidden: An Otherworldly Boxset

Rate this book
Ten heroes and heroines are up against unknown forces of darkness—good thing they all have supernatural skills and abilities—it's just too bad that not all of them are sure what to do with them yet. Powerful allies are hard to come by and lines are blurred when it becomes difficult to tell friend from foe. Delve in to ten unique worlds full of vampires, witches, mages, dream-stalkers, fallen deities, monsters and even super heroes! Supernatural skills may be enough to save them... but only if they can figure out how to wield them in time.

All stories are first in a series!
1. Cursed by Fire by Danielle Annett: Vampires and shifters vie for control of Spokane, Washington, and Aria Naveed is right in the middle of the fire.
2. Message Bearer by M.S. Dobing: Seb is a fledging mage, able to manipulate reality, and he alone carries the message that could change the course of the conflict forever
3. Unhidden by Dina Given: It’s not always easy to differentiate between the good guys and the bad guys, especially when your heroine is a trained killer and she may be falling in love with her evil hunter…
4. No More Black Magic by A.L. Kessler: Explosions, bodies and black magic are just part of a typical day at this agency.
5. Power Surge by E.J. Whitmer: From ordinary to extraordinary in just one week. It's a good thing she looks great in spandex.
6. Brooding City by Tom Shutt: A police detective is confronted with his own past crimes as a dream-stalker even as he takes on a greater evil.
7. Altered by Amy Steaman: A pretty law student's life is changed forever by a mysterious stranger when desire, possession, and treachery lead Sadie down a crooked path to redemption
8. Emergence by Siana Wineland: Valkyries invade the Pacific NW, in a contagion. What's a girl to do when she finds she's been infected and sprouting wings happens to be a side affect.
9. A Time Apart by Rebecca N. Caudill: A vampire and a woman who couldn't be more different, realize that destiny has brought them full circle.
10. Familiar by Frances Pauli: A beautiful small-town witch teams up with a sexy cop to take on a demon.

I'm just a girl with an obsession for Marvel movies, a love of all things Urban Fantasy, and a cheerleader for the underdog in any given story.

If you're looking for a heroine you can root for ... someone who defies the odds and gets up every time they're knocked down ... then look no further because that's what you'll find in my books.

I hope you'll join me in Aria Naveed's adventures. She's pretty badass if I do say so myself.

1. Cursed by Fire by Danielle Annett 7/6- Aria has a lot riding on her. There was a firestorm brewing with her in the middle of a huge territory battle between paranormal factions.

4. No More Black Magic by A.L. Kessler 7/9- Magic and explosion makes for a good action paranormal read.
5. Power Surge by E.J. Whitmer 7/10- Placed in the right hands can be good or bad depending on your view of the situation.
6. Brooding City by Tom Shutt -

I always enjoy box sets, getting the opportunity to find new to me authors and books. An example in this set is Familiar by Frances Pauli--a gem of a find. I expected a cute little mystery, which I also enjoy. Not this one. A mystery that I never solved (a rare thing). New cop in town is a big city cop, dealing with the pressures of his job. Instead of getting out altogether, Ray eases into small town policing with nothing much to deal with—except witches, demons, and stalkers. A good story with no sight of the real bad guy until the very end. Old tragedies, new possibilities, but first, Ray and Deirdre have to find the bad guy. I thoroughly enjoyed and plan to read more from this author and to check out the other stories and authors. A strong recommend from me.

This is a great compilation of some pretty amazing beginnings to series. The writing and character and world building is wonderful and they capture you right away. Each author has a style that is unique and captivating in how they portray their characters and story. Below are some thoughts on a few of the stories. Enjoyed each story and look forward to reading more of the series and the author’s writings.

Cursed by fire: I love Aria’s take charge attitude and how she fights for her city. Heroine has pluck and is feisty.

Message bearer: love the fresh way of seeing Mages and daemons. This young boy starts out seeing himself as nothing special and ends up on a journey of discovering himself, gaining friendship and I believe is the key to everything. Him and Cade were my favorites and so glad they got close to one another. I feel for Cade though so much betrayal that he is dealing with.Action packed and wondering what is next for those willing to fight for what is right.

No more black magic: Abby is feisty, badass and saucy. She was brought by a vampire and works for good. I hated to see her neighbor and what he truly represented. We get some action, surprises and spark. Abby is sassy and spunky in her attitude. I love the spark and tension between her and Nick and wonder how there story will play out.

Brooding city: love how the past and present collide for this detective as he faces murder and mayhem and trying to come to terms and move on. I think his past my definitely affect the future and the foreboding at the end. Wow. The boogeyman is real in this story and will freak you out.

Altered: at first felt for Sadie but over time you see her adjust well or as well as she can. Vince horrible man. The story of Sadie and Trent though was incredible. So rich and sweet. He was so supportive and sweet. I loved the take on how finding their bonded mate can help change traits of a vampire for good things. Story has revenge, redemption and love.

A time apart: A man feels guilt for his past and tries to atone by setting himself apart from his kind. A writer comes into his life and his past and hers collide. they have passion love and understanding. We see her learn about him and who he is while figuring out how she feels and what she wants. This for me was a great cross between historical, contemporary and paranormal. Hope they make it.

Familiar: Loved this. It was light but not to light. Had elements of laughter, intrigue, surprise ending and maybe the beginning of a love story. The heroine was sweet and perky. She didn’t let the town’s attitude towards her bring her down but when the new detective comes into her world she sees hope. He is kind and earnest. they have a connection and it drives him to want to protect more than is his duty. This was fun, entertaining and perky with some danger and intrigue and really the ending wasn’t what I expected or rather who I expected to be the one behind it or why. Would like to see what is next for our heroine and detective.

Fated and Forbidden: An Otherworldly Boxset There are a bunch of things that I love about this box set.  I love reading books that are part of a series.  So the fact that all the stories that are included in this set are the first of its series is incredible.  I love PNR and Urban Fantasy.  There is definitely, a wide variety of supernatural creatures included in this set to keep me interested.

One of my favorite books included in this set is Cursed by Fire by Danielle Annett.  The supernatural community was revealed to humans six years ago at an event known as the Awakening. Mercenary, Aria Naveed, was hired to find a little boy and uncovers a bigger mystery.  Cursed by Fire is a fast-paced action filled novel that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Aria is a worthy heroine. She does not shy away from difficult situations, and she does what she feels is right. I like that she is effective at playing ignorant to learn things. She is smart and good at her job.
The mystery in Cursed by Fire is great. I was never quite sure where things were going to lead, so the plot stayed interesting. The epilogue definitely has me wanting to read the next book in the series. It left me a bit stunned.

Fated and Forbidden: An Otherworldly Boxset has nice diversity.  It’s a great addition to and paranormal library.

Each author has an own style that is unique and captivating in its own ways, in how they portray their characters and story. It's all a combination of romance, sci-fi and fantasy elements and I love reading about all of those things, so these elements combined into stories was such a joy to read! With more stories then not, I felt really sad when it ended and I just wanted to continue reading haha.

**Carla's Three Star Review**

Fated and Forbidden is a box set containing ten paranormal/urban fantasy novels. While I am not a huge paranormal fan, I did enjoy one story more than the others. Unhidden is the first book in The Gatekeeper Chronicles by Dina M. Given, and it is a pretty good story.

Emma Hayes is a mercenary for hire with no memories of her life before age sixteen. Her world is suddenly thrown into havoc when she is hunted and attacked by monsters. Yes, those creatures she thought only existed in people's nightmares? They turn out to be as real as she is. In her hunt for the answer as to why she is being targeted, she seems to accumulate more and more enemies. When she finally learns what happens to her years ago, will she be able to accept it? Well, you will just have to read the book to find out! As I said before, paranormal books really aren't my thing. However, I will be reading Unraveled which is the second book in the Unhidden series. I have to know how Emma's story plays out!

If you are a huge paranormal fan, you will certainly feel like you hit the jackpot with this box set! Give it a try! You just might discover an unknown author who really knows how to bring it!

Through the dangerous jungles of Mexico and the mean streets of New York City there is no shortage of adventure or mystery in Unhidden.

We meet Emma in the very beginning of the book. She is in a highly dangerous job, where she was hired to rescue a little girl. When she locates the said girl is when things go from normal to a giant conundrum. While we learn that Emma was involved in a car accident when she was sixteen where she lost all her memories. She quickly starts to question her reality and if everything, she ever believed has been a lie. Soon Emma is thrust into a quest to get to the bottom of this mystery of her life. She is chased, attacked, and nursed back to health by the most unlikely of allies. It's up to Emma to decide who and what is the actual threat, and how she will survive it all.

Emma was a strong, resourceful, and wanted woman. Honestly, I don't think there is anything she can't handle. I was so connected to her character. I could see myself standing beside her against evil. She surrounded herself with some great people. I loved her tenacity and intuition. The story was a non-stop thrill ride that I didn't want to end. Do you hear that? Yes, that's my heart beating out of my chest until the very end.

There are plenty of characters in this book to fall for. For me, it was Alex. He was a swift protector, and his callous demeanor made me want to know more of the story. I can't mention Alex and not Zane, he was certainly one for the other characters I was drawn to. These three surely get you in the mood for adventure.

Unhidden had danger, suspense, mystery, and a great mystic factor. I loved being immersed in this whole new world. I look forward to more of the story. This is a must-read for any danger enthusiast. It kept me on my toes from the beginning to end.

Fun and exciting. That is how I'd describe Abby from No More Black Magic and the entire book. It's a fun read with plenty of juicy plot to keep you turning the pages.

Set of first book in series

A good number of books but not very good ones. A few gems like kissed by fire but that is it.
