Product Description

Mel Gibson and Randall Wallace, the star and writer of Braveheart, reunite for this action-packed war movie that features explosive battle sequences, thrilling aerial photography and unforgettable military heroes who fought for their country, their loved ones and their freedom. The year is 1965 and America is at War with North Vietnam. Commanding the air cavalry is Lt. Col. Hal Moore (Gibson), a born leader committed to his troops. His target: the La Drang Valley, called “The Valley of Death.” As Moore prepares for one of the most violent battles in U.S. history, he delivers a stirring promise to his soldiers and their families: “I will leave no man behind…dead or alive. We will all come home together.” This heroic true story of commitment, courage and sacrifice also stars Madeline Stowe, Greg Kinnear, Sam Elliott, Chris Klein, Keri Russell and Barry Pepper.

Battle of LA Drang Valley, first time U.S. Battalion fights only NVA regulars in vietnam
Retired Army Lt. Gen. “Hal” Gregory Moore, co-author of the book “We Were Soldiers Once...and Young,” lived to be 94 years yungMoore’s book about the exploits of his battalion in the Battle of Ia Drang Valley during the Vietnam War — co-written with journalist Joseph L. Galloway (love that vietnam allowed free journalism... I respect galloway... durring WWII the U.S. acted like a bunch of commies... media control, japanese internment, forced rationing, largest scale partial mobilization in U.S. history... with volunteers it may as well have been a full mobilization draft??..)... — was adapted into a 2002 Hollywood film in which Moore was portrayed by actor Mel Gibson("THE PASSION" of Christ BOO!!... catholics...ugh!!)Moore graduated from West Point in June 1945 (aww he was too late to die an early bloody and horrible death on a pacific Island) and entered the infantry branch as a second lieutenant just three months before the end of World War II. While Moore was unable to serve in that conflict, he went on to serve in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Moore’s heroism won him a distinguished service cross. At the time of the battle, Moore served as commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry (Custer)(last stand)(oh wait, even when youre outnumbered 4 or 5 to 1 and you dont know the terrain plus the enemy has been fighting a war for 15 years already even just a mere 800-900 U.S. Air Cav guys can totally out-do 4,000 men and an entire NVA division at that...but... but we cant defeat the spirit of an independent uncle HO's vietnam!), 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). His unit was dropped by helicopter into the la Drang Valley on Nov. 14, 1965, in one of the first major battles between U.S. and North Vietnamese regulars. During the battle, 234 Americans were killed, another 250 were wounded. Estimates of the North Vietnamese killed range between 600 and 1,200, depending on sources.
