About this audiobook
In this groundbreaking health and lifestyle guide, Darin Olien—superfoods expert, nutritionist, creator of Shakeology, and co-host of the Netflix docuseries Down to Earth with Zac Efron—provides the key to understanding and utilizing five life forces, the sole factors that determine whether or not we will be healthy, fit, and free of illness.
In Superlife, Darin Olien provides us with an entirely new way of thinking about health and wellbeing by identifying what he calls the life forces: Quality Nutrition, Hydration, Detoxification, Oxygenation, and Alkalization. Olien demonstrates in great detail how to maintain these processes, thereby allowing our bodies to do the rest. He tells us how we can maintain healthy weight, prevent even the most serious of diseases, and feel great. He explains that all of this is possible without any of the restrictive or gimmicky diet plans that never work in the long term.
Olien has traveled the world, exploring the health properties of foods that have sustained indigenous cultures for centuries. Putting his research into practice, he has created a unique and proven formula for maximizing our bodies’ potential. He also includes a “How-to-eat” user’s guide with a shopping list, advice on “what to throw away,” a guide to creating a healthy, balanced diet plan, and advice on how to use supplements effectively.
Written in Olien’s engaging conversational style, Superlife is a one-of-a-kind comprehensive look at dieting and nutrition, a timeless and essential guide to maintaining the human body and maximizing its potential.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I found this book incredibly life-giving and halfway through the ebook, I bought a soft copy.
It’s one of those books that packs so much helpful information, that one needs to read and re-read it over and over again. I see it as a sort of health Bible — and will take a while to ingest it and see how I can start to integrate as much as is possible into the life I am living now!1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very good resource to guide our life towards living healthily aligned with nature and our body inside and outside.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book explains with great detail what we should be eating and why! And how to create an environment inside our bodies where bacteria and diseases like cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s won’t survive! Also of great importance, what kids should be eating and discouraging them on the hard sell of unhealthy food brain washing of television!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Motivating and good general overview of our health. Plus some recipes inside to get started.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Healthy life made simple by Darin Olien, must read. Loved it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5“I’m not a scientist, I’m an eternal student” the author says about himself and his humility did intrigue me. I’m myself constantly on a search, I teach (when I teach) so I can digest what I just learned and I think it’s important that an author will state that because it makes him flexible, ever growing.
Honestly, although I have been on healthy eating since 1987 I never heard of Darin until I saw Down To Earth, that wonderful documentary on Netflix on which Zac Efron and Darin travel around the world on a quest to learn how to be more respectful of planet earth and of our bodies. When the episodes were over I started this book. I got both the e-book as well as the audiobook so I could listen to it while working on my organic vegetable garden, and pass that enthusiasm that comes with shared truths passing on my produce. I loved it! I think is a great book, aiming to open the eyes of people to a deeper more bubbling life and to refresh the principles by which one may have started a healthy diet in order to heal as well as to be in synch with all the beauty around us.
Thank you Darin for this production and for all of your search and quest. I totally get it. It’s a dynamic inner movement that keeps us inquire knowing the truth is infinite yet willing to be grasped and seen.
I’m enthusiastic about this book! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it! Took my time to listen and integrate. Clear, precise and useful! Practical info too!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book asserts a lot of claims without sufficient grounds, evidence, and it asserts them decisively, never pausing to qualify or self-reflect. For instance, the author is sure that GMO foods are bad despite no evidence, because corporations are bad. I share his distrust of corporations but would prefer claims based on evidence. The book is full of opinions passed off as facts. I dunno, maybe I've read too many of this kind of book, but this one didn't seem to reward the time spent listening.
This reader's lapsing into ethnic accents when reading studies from various countries annoyed me; scientific findings do not need to have character voice added to them; the whole idea of scientific findings is that they are striving to prove claims that are true regardless of the identity of the observer, so to slap a hacky Indian accent on quoted research published by an Indian scientist distracted me. Okay it drove me crazy. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I had mixed feelings on this one. On the positive side, this book is clearly a significant step up from your typical diet / fitness book that preaches about "healthy eating" (i.e. low-fat, which has become clear has been a national disaster) and getting in your cardio. The author is quite knowledgeable in many areas related to diet. He does bring up studies referencing some of his claims. All in all, if you followed the advice given in this book, I think you'd end up being quite healthy. However, the author is also on a vegetarian crusade, it seems. He mentions numerous times how eating meat is bad for you, but precious little evidence is given to support these claims. In fact, he even mentions how he used to consume quite a bit of meat himself and notes that his health during that time was excellent. For those of us who are active and need a fair bit of calories, trying to follow the diet he suggests would be a pain in the rear -- getting enough calories would probably be a chore. I did particularly appreciate the chapter on acid/alkaline balance. This seemed to be reasonable well grounded in up-to-date science, and essentially provides another reason to ensure you're eating your fruits and vegetables. All in all, good, but unnecessarily restrictive to us omnivores. If you're a vegetarian (or even vegan?) and looking to optimize your lifestyle, this might be a great book for you.
