Talk about pop-ception: A K-pop girl group that features Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese members just remade a song by one of America’s most iconic boy bands for the Japanese market. In other words, TWICE just released a music video for their remake of The Jackson 5’s legendary “I Want You Back.”
Known for their infectiously bright pop tracks, the K-pop group is immensely popular in both Korea and Japan. “I Want You Back” is their fourth single of 2018, following the Japanese songs “Candy Pop” and “Wake Me Up,” and the Korean “What Is Love?”
TWICE’s “I Want You Back” was released in Japan on Friday (June 15) through a ‘50s-inspired music video. In it, the nine members of TWICE portray the role of shopgirls in a record store auditioning for a spot as television performers — which also is judged by the nonet.

The cover serves as a tie-in to the upcoming teen rom-com Sensei Kunshu, which Billboard Japan reports “is a live-action adaptation of the popular comic by Momoko Koda about a handsome and intelligent but coldly cynical high school math teacher played by rising actor Ryoma Takeuchi and a student who has a major crush on him played by Minami Hamabe.” The film, directed by Sho Tsukikawa, will be released in Japan this summer.
The nine-member girl group will be holding a Japanese tour in the fall, with stops throughout the country in September and October. They will also reportedly release their first Japanese LP later this year.
