The Rockets needed a center to add to their rotation and that is wha they got.

The Houston Rockets with their first pick in the 2016 NBA Draft (37th overall), selected Chinanu Onaku from the University of Louisville. Onaku is a 6'9" defensive center and is extremely raw offensively. Here is his Draft Express profile.

Onaku is going to be a bit of a project, but we will see how he fits into Mike D'Antoni's system this season, likely as it's implemented in Hidalgo with the Vipers. We are not going to see him threaten Clint Capela for the starting spot in the immediate future or ever in the Rockets rotation, but he could eventually turn into a serviceable backup.

He and Montrezl Harrell overlapped at Louisville, and while they're both known for their motor, Onuaku has better size and Harrell has a better touch around the basket. One notable thing about Onuaku: he shoots his free throws underhanded. Because Rockets fans haven't had enough free throw adventures of late.

The Rockets have one more pick in the draft, unless there are some more trades to be had, but Daryl Morey has been pretty quiet tonight ,so who knows exactly what is going to happen. Keep it here for further draft coverage and we'll take you well into the night.
