Mariah Carey and James Packer’s prenup was seriously insane

Mariah Carey and James Packer’s prenup negotiations for a wedding that never happened were so outrageous that things became hostile, and her team accused his business managers of treating her like a “gold digger.”

The superstar was allegedly first offered $1 million a year for each full year of marriage by Packer exec Robert Rankin, but her managers flatly refused, saying, “Mariah earns that in 45 minutes for a private performance. This is insulting!”

Packer’s team followed up on email with terms that included: Carey would get $6 million per year (or $151,385 per week) up to a maximum of $30 million. The document also stipulated Carey would get a credit card, but it could only be used for living and staff expenses, not clothes, and could not exceed a certain amount each year. There would be no joint accounts, and Carey and her kids would not inherit any money from Packer.

He would only provide her use of one private jet for herself, her staff, and her children and nannies. “It shall not be appropriate to provide a second airplane for Mariah’s use, or the use of her children.”

The document continues, “James shall have no further obligation to provide clothing for Mariah, but he may, as he chooses, make any gifts of clothing,” and, “Except for gifts between them for their engagement, wedding or on birthdays and anniversaries, no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over $250,000 will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating, ‘This is my gift to you.’”

A source said, “This caused a lot of tension. Her camp said they were treating Mariah like a gold digger, while she thought she was marrying the man of her dreams.”

Even Packer got frustrated, according to an email seen by TMZ, in which he wrote, “I don’t know who’s working for who because there are a lot of names I haven’t heard before on this email chain. The people who work for me — message — do as I say or f - -k off. I want to get married on March 1st. James.”

Reps for Mariah didn’t comment, reps for Packer said reports that a prenup was in place were “grossly inaccurate and completely untrue,” and a source insisted, “It’s meaningless because there was no prenup.”
