GhostWalker Wyatt Fontenot knows the price he paid for the secret military experiments that gave him his special catlike abilities. After all, he left his bayou home a healer and came back a killer. While Wyatt and his GhostWalker brother Gator may have known exactly the sort of game they were getting into, Wyatt never anticipated where it would lead—or to whom.

The swamps hold many mysteries, but few are as sinuously seductive as Le Poivre de Cayenne. The woman the locals call Pepper is every bit as enigmatic as the three little girls she’s desperately trying to protect. From what, Wyatt is soon to discover. Right now Pepper needs a man like Wyatt. Passionately. But her secrets are about to take them both deeper into the bayou than either imagined—where desire is the deadliest poison of all.

Viper Game is the 11th book in the GhostWalkers series and it was very Good. I read the reviews before I read this book and I was totally expecting to dislike this book, but I really liked it. This would have been a 5 star book, but one scene, one, took it down to a 4 star for me. I read in the reviews about Wyatt acting like a overly Jealous Ass, but as I was reading I thought "Oh he isn't so bad I have read way more possessive heroes", until I got to this one scene that had me seeing red! The one scene that knocked the book a whole star for me was when Wyatt comes into the room where Pepper, his woman and his 3 daughters, who are under 2 years old, are dancing with some of his team members, who are like brothers too him. Does he think awe look my woman, and children are smiling and laughing after being prisoners their whole life and have been tormented in unthinkable ways. Nope he flips out in front of everyone yelling at Pepper asking her "What the hell is she wearing and demanding she go change now." He embarrassed the hell out of Pepper and made himself into a huge ass in front of his daughters, woman, and brothers(team mates). It didn't matter how much he said he was sorry after that I didn't look at him the same and it caused me to not enjoy the book as much from that point on, which is a shame because the rest of the book was great!

 photo pepper2_zpsymiol54c.jpg

I really like the plot to this book. I loved the new team. This is the 4th Ghostwalker team. I love Pepper and I felt so bad for her. Her life was so hard. Loved the lil girls, but I am a sucker for children in love stories. LOVE LOVE LOVE Nonny! OMG I love Trap Dawkins!!!! Him and Cayenne OMG they are going to be so good together, wow I can't freakin wait for their book. I was sad that I didn't get to see Gator and Flame in this book, they are family they should have been in this book!!!!! Over all a good read, but it would have been a 5 star if not for the one part! Not the best book of the series, but I would still recommend it!

A brief review of my reread this past fall of 2017. Loved this book. Wyatt is messy and he needs to deal with his hormones and jealousy. Pepper, I felt for and loved. The babies were like my favorite part. Also loved Nonny and Team 4, and Cayenne. Hope to finally read Spider Game soon.

Previous Review:

I have said it before and I will say it again. I love these GhostWalkers books! It was lovely to get a new book. I'm glad I finally got to read it, even if it's a year late! I am happy to say that I really loved this book. Now let's talk about this book!

Wyatt:
My dear Wyatt, you are a hot, delicious mess. When he is in his brother Gator's book, you think of him as a jocular, easy-going little brother. Well, things have changed. He's very intense and somewhat tortured. And freaking jealous as a house on fire. I will freely admit I love jealous/possessive heroes. I felt he did toe the line in how he was treating Pepper when she was around his friends. Yes, there are some considerations with it all. Pepper has an allure that is highly potent, and Wyatt spends most of this book learning to deal with it. At least he realizes it's a problem and tries. He's very bossy. Oh yes, I think he also knows this about himself and he's called by his boys and Pepper about it. What I love about Wyatt is his love and protective nature over his family and friends. When Pepper and the baby come, he's all in. No question. He's a formidable warrior but also an incredible thinker. I love brilliant men. What a great combination. And he's definitely all that in the bedroom. What's not to love? But seriously, I don't know that I could live with a man like Wyatt as my husband, but he sure is right for Pepper and a very appealing hero. I like that he is willing to change the areas that he needs improvement in.

Pepper

Wow, she's gorgeous, inside and out. I felt so bad for her situation. I hate that she was experimented on that way and has such a profound enhancement. At first I didn't really get it. It took me a while to figure out what was going on with her enhancement. When I did, I was pretty thrown. That would suck. I've have read books with a similar issue in a heroine (but it's usually paranormal). How to deal with that. Wyatt's solution was certainly practical and it made for some hot bedroom (and other places) moments for sure. Even though she hated that she had to do it, she uses her unique ability to devastating effect in the climax, and I thought that was a very cinematic moment. I definitely wouldn't want to be irresistible and gorgeous like her (For real, I mean it). How difficult did that make her life? It was Wyatt's fault that he was so jealous, but it sucked that she couldn't do a lot about it. He had to understand that she was who she was, and he clearly loved her, so it comes with the package. I loved Pepper. Thought she was an awesome character. Ms. Feehan is really upping the ante with the GhostWalker storyline. Pepper's enhancement and backstory ties in very well but takes things to another level.

The Triplets:

Oh my gosh. So adorable. This book made my baby fever even worse. I loved the scenes where they bond with the adults and Pepper and Wyatt. I love seeing the GhostWalker nursery get bigger. Keep it coming, Ms. Feehan!

The Team:

The new guys that get introduced in this book are officially my boys. Loved them all. Even though Trap is a grumpy, socially awkward hot mess, he's my hot mess. Excited to read his book. Ezekiel is probably my new favorite GW. I can't wait until his book! I always love the relationship between the GWs. How they have each other's backs and rib each other because they know each other so well. How their loyalty is ride or die and when their men find their women, they will fight to the death to protect them and their children. I couldn't ask for more.

Nonny:

She's awesome. I loved her snark and how she welcomes all the GWs into her home, and the babies. Can she be my honorary Cajun grandmother?

The Setting:

I hate hot weather, and I still kinda of wished I was in the Bayou with them. That's because it was so well-described I felt like it was real to me. How Wyatt was a product of the swamps and it was integral to his nature. It was a sort of symbiosis for him.

Cayenne:

She's my girl. I love bad-a** chicks and she's definitely that. Her skill set, ah yess! Can't wait to read Spider Game. Trap and her already have melting hot chemistry. Trap is a bit of a butthead, but I hope Cayenne stays strong and handles her man and keeps him in line.

Story Advancements:

As I said above, I think this story really does escalate the ongoing GhostWalker narrative. The introduction of the French GW girls is brilliant, and I'm excited to see more of them. The new physical enhancements of the bad guys was freaky and made for some fantastic action scenes. One of the things I love about this series is the action is hard and fast and incredible. These books satisfy my love Jones and my action Jones, and that's just what I want in a good action romance/romantic suspense.

This series continues to be one of my top favorite romance series, and I'm glad that Feehan has sustained the writing quality. She's going very hot with the love scenes, but not going into places I won't follow, so I'm thankful for that. I can deal with the hero being a bit more dominant in the bedroom than I like, and actually Wyatt was pretty hot.

I'm a happy camper. A well-deserved five stars!

What is going on with this series!!!!! It’s veering totally away from the first books. The Ghostwalkers and other characters in the latest book are beyond bizarre!!!!

Dr Whitney is doing some pretty weird things with his human experiments.
Here’s a short summary of this story….

Le Poivre de Cayenne, aka Pepper, beautiful and sensuous,
 photo 635580484904845102-Viper-Game_zpsd2vpddbm.jpg
has been enhanced with snake venom and used to seduce and kill the doctor’s enemies…such as the Ghostwalkers…remember he’s out to annihilate them!
<
Pepper escapes with a baby from the laboratory, located in the Louisiana Bayou.

She’s rescued by Wyatt Fontenot, who happens to be the younger brother of Gator Fontenot (that yummy bayou Ghostwalker from the 3rd book, Night Game).

Now here’s one hell of a dangerous and possessive man!!!
 photo images_zpswn69xeyx.jpg

He just takes over poor old Pepper’s life and BODY!!!
“No one else ever puts their hands, their mouth or their fuckin’ cock here, you got that? There’s only me for you. My hands, my mouth, my cock, you got that?” He snarled it at her, allowing his feral side to slip further out.

This is insta-love but as we learn more about Pepper and the triplets…yes there’s more than one baby that she fled with…the team goes back to the lab to rescue them….

I am not sure I like the new additions to the Ghostwalkers in this book. They are weird and odd…nothing like the original ones!!!

I liked the bayou setting
 photo download_zps7omgm9fq.jpg
…dark, mysterious and dangerous and the characters that did it for me were Wyatt’s grandmother and the cute triplets…..Pepper & Wyatt were just too strange for me.

And then there’s the sex that the author likes to write pages and pages about!!! Let me just say that I found those Pepper & Wyatt “love” encounters off putting and so not sexy!!!!
She cried out and her body tightened around his, clamping hard. Hot, delicious cream enveloped him, scorching him, but he welcomed the fluid, the biochemically treated honey that he’d be forever addicted to. He wanted her to have multiple orgasms, produce as much as possible of her liquid gold.
Gross rather than sexy!!!!

I’m not sure where the author is taking this series but I am not enjoying the latest offerings!!!!

Christine Feehan's GhostWalkers is one of my favorite romantic suspense/paranormal series so I was really excited when I saw this book, only to become concerned when I saw the mixed reviews. And, in truth, I can see where everyone is coming from, even those I don't see eye-to-eye with.

It's true the stories are changing from the way they were in the beginning, but they're changing in ways I would expect them to, given Dr. Peter Whitney's diabolical plan and desperation to create the perfect soldiers. The experiments are more and more extreme, and more and more heartbreaking. The truth is, I found Viper Game to be more exciting, more captivating, and more intriguing than the last several books in the series. Yes, Wyatt was often a jerk, but considering Pepper's "enhancements" and her inability to control them, it's a wonder to me that Wyatt allowed any of the men on his team to live beyond the first few chapters!!

Okay, it's late and I just finished, so I'll wrap this up before I fall asleep sitting here, but I sure hope future GhostWalker stories are this good!

3,5 STARS

Hmm, not sure what to say about this book other than that I read it too freaking long. Seriously, I've started it in January, yes you've read that right and I've only finished it now. I just don't know why it took me so long. There were parts where the story lost my interest and I had to put it down for a (long) while. I think some details could have been left out, it would make the story more dense and more interesting. Aside from that I really liked the plot and all the versatile characters. Lots of action, romance, OTT moments and hot guys. What's not to love, right? Oh and granny was awesome, too. I definitely wouldn't want to meet her with a gun in her hand, that lady sure knows how to use it.
All in all, this is not a bad read but for me it was too slow. I wanted things to sort out faster but that's just me, so enjoy the story if you want to read it! :)

Re read (on audio) in prep for Spider Game

Prior comments:

4.5 stars

Who would have thought I would LOVE little viper babies?!

After the last book, which was written so poorly, this book was back to what I expect from Feehan. Making me think even more that Samurai Game was not really written by her.

Viper Game was awesome. I loved it! For the most part I was in a happy place the entire book. We are introduced to an entirely new team of GhostWalkers who are Air Force PJs. I really liked this team.

Nonny, Wyatt and Gator's great grandmother, was the star of the book! So spunky!

Wyatt, the Hero, is insanely dominant. That may bother some, but I loved it. I also believe it is necessary to be able to handle Pepper. He was also so committed and happy to have found Pepper (heroine) and the children. It totally makes up for his gruff moments. He also is a talker. So even when he goes crazy alpha on her, he does explain why he is feeling what he is. Wyatt had an ex who he thought she loved and she was a cheating, selfish, gold digger. He talked about her (negatively) too much. I wish he had just forgotten her. At least she never showed up!

Pepper was an incredible "surrogate" mother. She loved the babies. Pepper had enhancements that were HORRIBLE. This may turn some off as well. But this is out of her control so I am totally ok with it and feel such sympathy for her. You really feel her self loathing, but by the end I wanted her to get over it.

The chemistry and sex between Wyatt and Pepper is off the charts. I believed in their attraction and their love.

The babies - we only got Ginger for most of the book, but they are so sweet. Wyatt giving her a bottle or tucking her into her crib. Awww - so sweet! But deadly (their bite is venomous). I loved them and want to kill Whitney for what he did to them. Trapp (one of Wyatt's team members) was on my shit list until Pepper found him sitting holding the babies to warm them up. Totally melted my heart. Now I am looking forward to his book even though I am really not into spiders and the heroine may creep me out too much.

There was a disturbing scene at the end of the book when we hear some details about how she was treated and it really upset me. It was bad enough imagining. But it was not as bad as it could have been.

I really did love this book. Both MCs were great characters and the supporting cast was terrific. I liked the story and even though it is pretty "far out there" I bought into it. Wyatt did not replace Kade or Jack, but he is probably 3rd of all the GhostWalker Heros. I am not sure where Pepper lines up yet, but she is probably top 3 because of all she did for the babies.

This did not work for me.

I didn't like Wyatt much, in his demanding selfishness, his I know best and you will obey, and his complete its all about me and I'm going to trap you and never let you go behavior to Pepper. I found it to be controlling and a total turnoff. The balance of power was way out of whack and I find this a borderline abusive relationship. Plus, his on and off dropping his 'ts Cajun schtick drove me bats. I get it already!

As for Pepper, her superpower is more of a curse and now she's trapped--barefoot and pregnant--in a life dependent on Wyatt. I'm sorry for her. Not romantic.

I Liked Nonnie and the Viper babies but I really wish PNR authors would manage to write kids that were gifted, but borderline believable. Seriously, there's no need for 17-month olds to be assassins and child geniuses as well as what their enhanced biology has already inflicted on them. Total overkill.

I really love this series and I liked this book and it is almost a 4star book but it missed the mark because of a few things.

First, way Wyatt treated Pepper stepped over the line of Alpha male and into abusive prick and it took a lot of the enjoyment out of the story and even the erotic sex scenes. I liked Pepper and the triplets and thought they were written in a way I would expect girls with no real world experience to behave.

Second, I was a bit disappointed not to see Flame, Gator, Dahlia and that crew somewhat. Its nice in a series to be able to reconnect with great characters. I loved that Nonny was featured so prominently in this book as she is an awesome character and brings something special to the books that she is in. I enjoyed the cast of characters that made up Wyatt's team. I think they were an interesting mix and they should have some great stories of there own some time.

Third, I am a bit at odds with myself on the enhancement angles the books are taking. The first few books they had some standard enhancements but the last couple they are getting a bit more extreme, like walking through walls. I think they are cool but I liked the first few books when most of the enhancement were psychic in nature only.

Overall, this is a fun book with some steamy sex but there are moments that I could have gladly skipped over as they took away from the enjoyment.

Between 3.7 to 4 Stars...

 photo tumblr_ls704mudju1qbeo6co1_500_zps0kyuvkr4.gif
Quite frankly, I was left with a bit conflicted feelings on this book, hence my undecisive stars rating....
That much needs to be said that this book is a "positive one" and has many great elements I love to read about in a romance...things like a very strong heroine, or shall I say a badass heroine? Pepper truly shined on the pages with her unique personality, inner strength, compassion, loyalty, modesty and that unassuming innocence....simply put, she was a bit of a contradiction, but in a good way. She was trained in labs, knowing nothing else of the world except how to kill with her alluring sexual enhancement...I liked that even though she was extremely beautiful, she was still very insecure about herself and there was never any vain about her...quite the contrary, she was disgusted with herself for her enhancement and what it did to people, especially the ones who would die from its lure. She felt very real to me, a perfect looking woman, but flowed and sincere inside.

The Hero Wyatt could be identified as "a good man" upon finding out he has "children of his own" he accepted the children and step to the role of fatherhood very quickly and became very protective. He did however, hold a degree of distrust over Pepper at the beginning of the book and it was a little bumpy start for them, but, I carried on in the hopes that it would improve and he would make up for it...and make up he did!
 photo tumblr_nbaa6nJCIn1tgydxjo1_400_zpszyjereu4.gif
At about 37% he came around and made his choice and after that point he was all into the heroine putting a possessive claim on her...did I say possessive? because he was one big OTT obsessive scary man and I liked his consistency to that regard...there was no stopping him, he was very loving and supportive of Pepper, but that kind of man would be not quiet in the bedroom and he was not! On a side note, the first sex scene was very explosive and rough I would say, but, after that it got better and there was a lot of tenderness too, so for someone like me who really like the emotional connection during love scenes, this is a welcome theme.

The part that conflicted me was one part when Wyatt's crazy jealousy spin out of control and made an ugly scene that took some credit away from him...I kind of understood where he was coming from...imagine your very woman is enhanced to seduce just with a mere look, voice, and touch, so every man in proximity would be affected by it...it was even a bit uncomfortable for me to read at some of the Ghostwalkers team men reacting to her or shall I say trying to resist the biochemical lure? I don't want to read about the future books with these men who were drinking her in...I know it was not her fault and nor the men and they only reacted to the chemicals, but still, I was uncomfortable at times....so you can see the heroes jealousy is justifiable one, but at that moment he was very mean and in front of his children because he could not control his jealousy...I did not like him at that moment and apart from that moment, he has some minor jerky moments, so he could not quite manage to fit into the previous Hero"Kadan's perfection category." There were also some minor references to women he had been, like his ex-fiance, but I was happy that he really did not love her at all like he thought he had..it was an illusion and when he said "what he felt for Pepper was a million times better than what he felt for his fiance and every woman paled to the heroine, I had no doubt that the heroine was not his second best and that she truly was very special to him sexually and emotionally.

There was some good action that I was glad the romance was not compromised...there was a lot about the relationship between them and Wyatt's grandma was an awesome character I enjoyed reading immensely! The character I disliked was Trap...I also happened to read his book and I hated him even more...just could not stand his coldness and arrogance!

I was really torn about how to rate this book; 3 stars or 4. To be totally honest, I only went with 4 out of respect for the Ghostwalkers series as a whole. I did enjoy reading this book, and I did like the book. But I didn't love it like I usually love Ghostwalkers novels. The action and passion in Viper Game were off the charts, and entertaining as always. I also liked the revelations that Both of those things have been a long time coming in this series, and I was so excited to see them finally happening.

The main problems I had with Viper Game is the character of Wyatt, the supernatural abilities of the new Ghostwalkers, and the lack of interaction with the triplets. Wyatt's character was 100% different than when he was introduced in Night Game. In that book, he was the charming, carefree younger brother of the Ghostwalker Gator. In this book, he's not only total Alpha male, but he borders on asshole many times. His personality changes can be attributed to his enhancements and the addition of feline genetics so I understand that. What doesn't make sense is that it's only been roughly three years since Night Game yet he's not only a doctor now, but a surgeon, a genius with his own lab, an enhanced soldier who's been on numerous missions, and had a long term relationship that failed. How exactly did all that happen in 3 years? It isn't possible, and is a huge mistake on Feehan's part. Her writing was subpar in this novel and I wonder if she even wrote it herself. Also, Feehan went way overboard with the pyschic enhancements. She has mixed supernatural abilities of her Carpathian series up with the scientific enhancements in this series. She has one character that walks through walls, and another that spins webs like a spider. I realize that this is paranormal romance, but you still have to stay within the parameters of the world you create, and she stepped outside that with these characters. Some people have commented on the super soldiers that wouldn't die, but those seemed like cyborgs to me. That's a scientific advancement so I didn't really have a problem with them. It fit the world of the Ghostwalkers. The other thing that bothered me was the lack of interaction with the triplets. I find it completely unrealistic that, after all the trouble Wyatt and Pepper went through to save them, that they would ignore their needs for medical attention and go have sex. Wyatt is supposed to be a family man; he isn't going to ignore three children that need his help when suffering rashes from viper venom. That scene was completely stupid. I just have to put that out there.

So, there were several things that just didn't add up in Viper Game. Fans of the Ghostwalkers series have been waiting since 2012 on a new installment in the series, and we were given this flawed novel. While I did still enjoy the book while I was reading it, and I do still love and recommend the series as a whole, I am deeply disappointed in Christine Feehan as an author. She is capable of much better than this, and I hope the next one is better even though it will feature characters that walk through walls and spin webs. She's already stepped over the line, so I'll have to accept those characters before the next book comes out, if I want to continue reading the series. And I think I do want to continue reading it. We'll see what the next book is like.

Feehans books used to be in my top ten for authors, but now I just don't know what has happened to her writing style.

The men just seemed to be "A" holes.

Wyatt has to be one of the worst I have ever read for a male leading role in a book. From being overbearing and damn right nasty at times to Pepper. The story was very slow moving and at some points totally ridiculous. I don't mind sex scenes in books but for this book it seemed it was just page filling to me. Pointless.

I have hung my boots for the Dark series, maybe I need to do this for the Ghostwalkers to because the story's are getting worse with each book now.

Disappointed

I had been waiting for this book for quite some time. Was really sad that this is the first book out of all of them that was really boring and didn't live up to the hype. Was way to much sex with so little story . Started out really great then went downhill from there.. I don't know if Christine Feehan is getting bored with writing this series or what?? Just very disappointed..

Extremely well read by Tom Stechschulte...His character voice for Grandmère reminded me so much of Dustin Hoffman's character Dorothy in film Tootsie ;)

Looking forward to listening to another book narrated by Tom.

4.25 stars.

The couple here have lethal triplets baby girls.
That monster Whitney create them from H/h sperm and egg he stolen in a vitro.
They both didn't know about the children and become together because of that knowledge.
Very interesting but you need to suspend you disbelief regarding the kids because they’re scarily smart!!
Oh lethal too, did I mention it before? Whitney experimental the most poisonous snakes to them.
Poor kids!!

a weak 3 stars. An entertaining read, but with issues.

It is late, so I'll just write my muddled thoughts:

The sex scenes were intense, but Wyatt is kind of a prick. The way he treated Pepper when jealous was abhorent. Especially when he knew her insecurities. And his professed reason for becoming a Ghostwalker even though he knew of the evil mastermind behind the program, didn't make sense. His later admission cleared things up, but it took awhile to come out.

The master plan that brought Wyatt and Pepper together required me to suspend my disbelief far more than usual.

I did enjoy reading the book, but it is one of the weaker ones in the series.

I REALLY REALLY LIKED IT BUT DIDN'T LOVE IT!!

Wyatt Fontenot has been asked to come back home to the Bayou by his Gran Mere Nonny. She tells Wyatt there are strange things going on in the Bayou. Possibly its the Bayou legend of the Rougarou, a shapeshifter. Wyatt returns home with two of his GhostWalker teammates The Fortunes brother Ezekiel and Malichai Fortunes. Mordichai the third brother has been left behind with the rest of the GW team 4. Nonny tells Wyatt and his friends how she was attacked by the security guards at Wilson Plastics a fairly new plant in the Bayou. Wilson Plastics has guards, high fences and looks like a prison. It is the old home sanatorium of Dahlia Le Blanc (see bk2 Mine Game) that was burned down.

No one messes with Nonny and gets away with it. Wyatt and his GW friends pay a visit on the guard. Wyatt hands out a harsh beating to the guard named Larry. While there they see a strange somethings running through the swamp in a blur. One is very very tiny and the other is small an petite in size but they both are bleeding. They have been shot. Wyatt and his friends track the strange phenomenons blurring through the swamp with no success. On retuning home there are two people he senses in his house with Nonny and there is the smell of blood. Pepper is holding a knife to Nonny while Nonny treats her gunshot wounds and there sitting in a chair next to them is a beautiful baby girl named Ginger and she has been shot to.

What can I say my heart broke and I was ready to get inside this story and torture Dr. Peter Whitney. Whitney and his assitant Dr. Thomas Braden. Dr. Whitney might be the most diabolical Villain I have ever read and he gets worst with each GhostWalker story. He hasn't given up on finding psychic females for his enhancement program and Pepper and even the little 17 moth old Ginger have been enhanced. Wilson Plastics are the termination labs for Dr. Whitneys so called scientific mistakes such as Pepper and Ginger. Oh wait Pepper was only able to get Ginger out. Ginger is a identical triplet. Her two sister Thym and Cannelle are still trapped in there and slated to be terminated.

Viper Game has a lot of surprises!! The problems I had with the story were Wyatt and Pepper have lots of sex scenes but they were mostly the same repeated scenario. Lots of sex scene but nothing special or very erotic don't mean love. This is usual for Christine Feehan she normally writes very erotic and different types of sex scene in her books and not the same one over an over. I had a real problem with The Snake DNA scenario storyline I HATE SNAKES and SPIDERS!! and the story just kept creeping me out. I have a real phobia with Snakes and Spiders which almost caused me to give Viper Game 3 stars. Instead I settle on 4 becasue the problem is me on this issue. I also, didn't feel that Wyatt was connected to Ginger, Thym and Cannelle. More time should have been spent fleshing this part of the story out. Wyatt seemed disconnected at times referring to them as those children. Once you read VG you will understand better what I am saying. I always loved Wyatt before he was enhanced. His brother is Raoul "Gator" Fortenot from GhostWalker team 1 (see Night Game bk 3) . Nonny has been waiting for Great Grands for ever. Why wasn't Gator and Flame written in the storyline? This would have made it more personal. Since becoming enhanced Wyatt has really changed and he comes across mean an abusive to Pepper. His jealousy is off the charts. It is explained why he reacts this way, but it didn't work for me. It was abusive an Not an Alpha male protective of his mate; which I think was the intention of the Christine Feehan.

I have waited 21/2 yrs for this installment of the GhostWalker series. Compared to the 10 books before it, it was a bit lacking. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. I Highly Highly Recommend this entire series. But I recommend to read all the books in the series before this one. It will make much more sense if you do. It will be well worth your time. The GhostWalkers are still one of the best series I have ever read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Viper Game would be way better if it were a bit shorter and if the sex scenes weren't as long. Some were so long my eyes glazed over.
The thing with this series is I seem to have lost the reading momentum. I don't intend to read the previous ones ever again.

One of the main issues people have with this is the insta-love. To be fair that is explained in the previous books. What Whitney did to his 'volunteers' without their knowledge is horrible and they are dealing with the side effects one book/couple at a time and they are doing it the best way they can.

What I liked here are the three tiny little girls. I wish there were more scenes with them.
Next, I love how the next heroine is introduced. The next couple has their first encounter in this book and it is great. I was more interested in their story than in Whyatt and Pepper's.

This story didn't leave me content, let alone happy. I didn't get the feeling anything is resolved. I don't consider 'we'll solve this later' an acceptable solution to Wyatt and Pepper's problem.

Overall, I don't think Viper Game moves the main story forward much except to place some of the Ghostwalkers in the bayou. There is a sort of an open ending with everyone dedicated to protecting the three children from Whitney so there's that.
I am interested.

I confess that I haven't finished the book yet but I don't see this getting any better.

I have always enjoyed the Ghostwalker series and when I found out this was about Gator's brother Wyatt I was super excited.

In fact I've liked almost all of the books Christine Feenhan's written so far - that's across all series.

But this one is such a dissappointment and I feel bad writing this but there's no way for me to like this storyline.

Night Game (Gator & Flame's story) is one of my favorite from the entire series and I've read it many times.
That is likely what makes this one so hard to swallow. Wyatt was not an asshole in Night Game. And the character of Joy -- whom we knew he had a crush on based on how the book ended - was a woman who was kidnapped, beaten and raped.
Now suddenly in this story she's just some girl he "thought" he was in love with but who wanted "bigger & better" things outside the bayou?

HUH?

To make things worse Wyatt is Alpha male to the extreme. I thought Mac was a jerk in Street Game always telling Jamie what to do, but Wyatt is waaaaay worse.

I loved coming back to the Bayou as a setting and in bringing beloved Nonny back to the picture but I hate this character.

I also really dislike the "enhancement" of Pepper as being some kind of constantly in heat sexual weapon. The character can barely function on her own and she comes off as weak, desperate, and almost pathetic.

Really disappointed

4.5 Stars!
Christine Feehan does it again! She is 11 books into the series now and still going strong! When a series gets this long you start to wonder how the next book can top some of the previous ones but time and time again she does. Viper Game is likely one of my top 3 favorites from this series. I loved almost everything about this book. Wyatt's cajun charm, Pepper's strength, and the little vipers oh my. This one kept me turning all 448 pages at record speed and the steaminess level was off the charts.

Peter Whitney just gets more and more dastardly in each book and we don't even need to see him to know it is so. I do wish we'd seen Flame and Gator in this one since Gator is Wyatt's brother, it would have been nice to get a peak at them again but alas we did not. The only other thing that niggled me a bit in this book was Pepper's massive insecurities towards the end. It was like she kept promising not to leave and then kept telling herself she had to for everyone else's safety. That part got a bit old but the book overall is absolutely fantastic. I cannot wait for the book to release so I can get a nice and shiny print copy up on my shelf!

While I've enjoyed Feehan's books in the past, this was a little hard for me to finish. The 'strong' male character, Wyatt, crossed the line several times from strong loving partner to male chauvinist to what I felt was downright misogynist in some scenes. It was one of the few books I skimmed past much of the 'romantic' scenes just to get to the action. The female character, Pepper, is no retiring female. She's strong & been trained by the guy we've all come to hate, Dr. Whitney, to be a super soldier, but she's uncomfortable with her 'power' which makes her vulnerable. Wyatt & his team have gone to Wyatt's home in the Louisiana bayou for a little R and R when he meets Pepper & takes on Whitney's team to save her.

I won't go into more of the storyline, but there are redeeming characters in the book that may get their own story later. I loved the interaction between the brothers, Ezekiel, Malachai and Mordecai, as well as the other team members Trap and Draden.

This should be a good book, but I couldn't seem to get into the characters in any meaningful way. Will be checking reviews carefully before I buy the next one out.

Too much domination and oppression.

I understand that the author's intent is to use the cat genes to explain Wyatt's need to dominate. I feel that this book goes too far at making his domination and jealousy "sexy." Women are often seduced into relationships when it starts out as extremely sexy. Later this behavior loses its attractiveness and the reality is controlling and psychological abuse. I am a voracious reader and enjoy a sexy male but I think we should be more responsible giving women help identifying that these characteristics are likely to worsen over time and that in reality isn't a storybook romance.

I am going to start this review right off, I really liked this book.. I start it that way because Christine Feehan can be hit or miss.. All of her books are good so maybe hit or miss isn't the correct term but each book she writes, she works really hard to write the right "feel" for the character and sometimes I am not crazy about that.. but that's ok, she doesn't have to write "the best book ever" every book. That being said..

I really liked Viper Game!! Viper Game continues Ms. Feehan's fabulous Ghost Walker Series and tells us Wyatt's story. Remember Wyatt, the younger brother in Night Game, Gator's brother?? Well he's no one's baby brother anymore. Wyatt is a full fledged GhostWalker with skills and talents all his own. Actually I wonder if all of the Fontenont brothers are going to end up as GhostWalkers.. Ms. Feehan brings them up a couple of times and guess what? They are both in the military, hmmmm..

Now I always figured Wyatt as a younger version of Gator, less mature but still that funny, clever man.. But in Viper Game he was much more serious. A man who had made some questionable choices and suffered from them. Yet, a man who knows that seriously, there is no place like home. Because we were back to the Bayou and Grandmere..

Wyatt has been called him because Grandmere feels there is something going on. Of course it's the Bayou and we know that there are always interesting things going on, so if Grandmere is concerned.. then it's worth worrying about. With his team in tow, we discover that there is a new "plant" on the very same sight that was once owned by Whitney, the "sanctuary" created for Dahlia. But now some plastics company is there, with heavy security?? Hmmm..

When Wyatt goes to check it out, it seems one of the guards actually messed with Grandmere, she dared to work on her OWN propery but too close to the fence. Wyatt is not a happy camper.. but while there he discovers a lot more is going on. Returning home, he discovers his life is seriously about to change.

Pepper has been created to become a true siren, able to mesmerize her captive and has a killer bite. Keep them close and kill them with seduction.. Only problem? Pepper does not have a killer's spirit. So she is considered a failure.. but she can be used as a babysitter. To there little girls, genetically engineered with Viper and Cobra venom, their bites kill. But they are just babies and Pepper loves them. Now she has to rescue them because a kill order has been given.

Intrigue and passion.. what a great way to go..

Now, there were a few things that bothered me. First off, Wyatt was remorseful of his choices and that's ok but he sort of harps on it. All internally of course but it got to be a bit of overkill and it distracted me from an excellent book. So much that as far as I am concerned what could have been a 5 star book goes down to 4. Which is too bad because there was some awesomeness in this story.

My other complaint?? No Gator.. Ms. Feehan gave some very reasonable reasons but I still wanted Gator.. oh and Flame LOL... I mean Gator is Wyatt's brother.. Gator had connections in the Bayou and seriously? Someone was messing with Grandmere and Gator wasn't there? It bothered me but the reason for his absence was addressed and many authors wouldn't do that. They would just leave out a very important character so as much as I wanted Gator, I truly appreciate that Ms. Feehan let us know why he wasn't there.

So do I recommend this book? Heck Yeah.. I think Ghostwalker Fans will be totally pleased!!

The male character crossed the line from strong male to sleeping with the enemy. It completely ruined the book. Not only was he massively verbally abusive but he was abusive in front of the children. I hope the author does not continue with this type of character or I will no longer read her books. I have read this complete series as well as the complete carpathian series so I am quite familiar with her writing.

When I first started out with this one I was excited to be back in the Bayou and having Nonnie around. However as things unfolded I wondered what happened with Wyatt he was so different. I know the difference was explained due to being enhanced, but Wyatt's personality was so different and I hated how cruel he was with Pepper at times. His jealously was so over the top so many times, what often made it worse was that he didn't apologize until one of the other guys or Nonnie pointed it out to him.

The one thing that made up for how possessive Wyatt was, was the new guys that came with Wyatt, along with the babies. I wished that there was more with the babies, especially after all 3 of them were together.

I read this and completely forgot to post my view. This one is a fun read. I zipped right through it. I like this series even if it seems to never move forward. This one, the "alternative" medicine theme was nice. I liked the red headed Pepper and how she wanted to save the 3 babies. The 3 babies are adorable and the plot device used for them was easily predicted. For those who enjoy this series, it's a fun read. Enjoyable and a decent length. I wish that this would actually move forward with some kind of conclusion in sight. Each one of these books is a tease. I guess the focus is just on the men and women getting together as mates. There is no end in sight to take out the "evil" scientist.

Probably 2.5 stars.

1. Sad that Gator and Flame didn't make an appearance.
2. Loved the babies.
3. Didn't like much else.

I've been hit and miss with Christine Feehan lately. And this one was a miss for me. Totally. I didn't even like Wyatt - he acted like an ass most of the time and Pepper always took the blame for his assholishness. The author seemed to have a fascination with blow jobs - it got to be too much. And so much of the sex felt like Wyatt was forcing Pepper to have sex. I just honestly didn't enjoy the story.

I debated reading this one because I hadn't read the last few, but I'm really sad I bought this one.

Wyatt is an ass. Way too jealous for my taste. And the sex was too rough
Pepper is too timid and helpless often for an enhanced Whitney creation.
The enhancements the characters are getting are too over the top now.
These books are starting to feel too much like the Carpathian books to me, which I have stopped reading because I hate them now.
I used to buy these on release day, but I've gotten the last few through the library because they're no longer purchase-worthy.
