Activision Blizzard has announced that it is acquiring mobile video game developer King Digital Entertainment for $5.9 billion.

King Digital Entertainment is of course most well-known for developing the hugely popular mobile games Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga. The acquisition was approved by the board of directors for both companies, and it is expected to be completed by the spring of 2016.

At least we don't have to deal with King bs anymore, i hope.

King hasn't been making as much as they used to, so I do wonder if they go the way of Rovio long term how long would it take for Activision to shutter them? Historically with Activision it's around 18 months to 3 years.

Holy Shit 6x the price paid for Minecraft. That sort of investment from Activision into what the "hardcore" gamers will never go near could take a lot of resources away from the AAA+ franchises people love from them.

That's nuts tho, just under $6b for a bejeweled clone on facebook. Probably makes it the most valuable/invested in gaming franchise in history :< and it isn't even 720p!
