Now a film on Jeffrey Archer's bestseller?
Book adaptations seem to be having a moment in Bollywood. After Vikas Swarup, it is the biggest name in popular fiction, Jeffrey Archer, whose bestsellers are set for a celluloid treatment.
Sheetal Talwar, who produced the Demi Moore, Amber Heard starrer 'The Joneses', and Hindi film, 'Rann', 'Raktacharita' and 'Mausam', has bought the film rights of the British author’s 1984 novel 'First Among Equals' and a short story, 'A La Carte', from his collection of short stories, 'A Twist In The Tale'.

A source close to the development told TOI, “Talwar is talking to Archer about purchasing the film rights of few other books as well. Talwar is planning to start work on 'First Among Equals' by mid-next year.”
Former cricketer Farookh Engineer, a close pal of both Archer and Talwar, engineered the meeting at the 73-year old novelist's London penthouse. The first meeting was on November 7 and the conversations stretched over lunch and dinner.
When contacted, Talwar who returned from London on Wednesday, said, “Lord Archer has been kindly agreed to open his repertoire of stories for us. Having grown up on his writings, it will be an honour to convert them into films in the near future.”
This is the first time that Archer, whose books have sold over 25 million copies worldwide, has granted the right of his books to an Indian producer. But many Bollywood films in the past have borrowed plots and subplots from Archer’s books including Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less) and Khudgarz (Kane and Able).
