BS Yeddyurappa resurfaces, defends PM Modi and Amit Shah on poor Bihar show

BENGALURU: BJP national vice-president BS Yeddyurappa has resurfaced from near obscurity and taken up cudgels on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah after a few BJP seniors castigated them for a poor Bihar show. He termed the Bihar election results, which went against the NDA, as “a mere twist due to local politics.“

Yeddyurappa, who has kept a low profile on the national front ever since the NDA came to power in 2014, told a TV channel in his Lok Sabha constituency Shivamogga, on Thursday: “The Narendra Modi wave is very much there at the national level. One reversal does not mean that the wave has gone away. We will recover and go back to our old track of winning very soon.“

He declined to take any further questions on the issue from the media.

Yeddyurappa was not inducted into the national Cabinet despite his seniority and mass following in Karnataka as there are some cases under he Prevention of Corruption Act against him in the state. He has, however, consistently tried to be seen on the right side of Modi and Shah and kept away from commenting on any national issue.

To a specific query on the recent statement issued by party seniors LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, which took an indirect dig at Modi and Shah for “emasculating“ the party, Yeddyurappa said: “Nobody should say such things. The party will discuss the issue in our internal fora and react to this.“
