  Summary

  I used Macrium Reflect Free to clone my Windows 10 system from an old SATA platter drive to SSD and it was incredibly easy. All options were easy to understand and default selections were what I wanted almost every time. Step 1, it recommends creating a recovery disk, which I did (bootable DVD). Step 2, I cloned the drive. Step 3, I disconnected the old drive and rebooted to the recovery DVD. Step 4, selected "Fix boot problems" and let it detect my OSes, including the new Win10 SSD. Clicked essentially, Next, Next, Finish to let it rewrite the boot record and boot menu. DONE! Rebooted without the recovery disk right into Windows 10. Now, Windows 10 comes out of standby in a mere 2 or 3 seconds! Love it. I will buy the Home version if I find a need for some of those features, but the free version is absolutely awesome!

  the only download I can't finish without errors every single time using macrium's download manager, so who knows how good or bad it is, just put the file on a server, give me a link and let me download it myself

• Best Backup/Imaging Tool I have Used

  I was a long time Acronis True Image user. I had recently purchased a new laptop and "upgraded" from Acronis TI 2014 to Acronis TI 2016. I had a long list of problems with TI 2016. The biggest issues were the inability to create a working boot disk, nags for other Acronis products (really should not happen in a purchased product), and features/functions that simply did not work. I downloaded the free version of Macrium Reflect and it just worked. Once I experienced how good the free version was I purchased the full license that same day. It is very straight forward and simple to use. The best thing is that it just works. I didn't have to spend time trouble shooting and trying to get it to work with my hardware. I have a brand new Dell XPS 15 9550 that has very new, what I would consider to be fairly bleeding edge technology. I also back up to a Synolgy NAS. It is VERY fast, much faster than what I was used to with Acronis.

  I migrated to a new larger hard drive on my laptop and it cloned my drive very quickly.

  Cons

  It stays in memory and is automatically loads with the operating system. I am also have problems booting up with the new hard drive. It may also be loaded with Yahoo's Trojan. (I will explain in the Summary.)

  Summary

  In the process of migrating to a new and larger hard drive, I downloaded this program and 1 other program from here on Download.com to clone my hard drive, deciding later on which program to use. (I used this one.) I also downloaded 2 partition programs as well. One of the programs that I downloaded infected my new hard drive with the Yahoo Trojan which hijacked the home pages and search engines of 3 different web browsers on my computer. Manually changing them back would not work. I also found several changes in my computer registry. It took me 3 days to get the Yahoo virus out of my computer. And as I said, I am running into errors when booting up and have to boot up more then once to get into the operating system. I strongly suspect this program as the agent for my troubles. But I am not sure so I gave it 3 stars until I can figure out exactly which program was the villain..

• Great backup, recovery, and cloning tool.

  Pros

  II have been using Reflect for automated daily and weekly backups, once for recovery, and twice for cloning disks to a new drive. It has always performed flawlessly. I used the free version for several years and finally bought the Standard version because I wanted the added features. They aren't necessary, but nice to have.

• Did what Acronis Migrate couldn't!

  FREE - and fully functional! Very easy to use. Fast once the download has completed. Interface bright and intuitive. User prompted to create back-up disc or thumb drive before proceeding. I first tried using the trial version of Acronis Migrate which had been recommended. Acronis wouldn't even recognize my hard disk but only saw the SSD that I wanted to use to clone my original HDD. Macrium Reflect recognized the HDD, gave me the option of what sectors to clone, and performed the clone in a little over an hour. Swapped out the old HDD for the new SSD, and it booted up without a hitch. Thank you Macrium!

  Takes a little bit of time to download all the components needed, but then it can be used to create a bootable DVD or USB thumb drive.

  Summary

  Amazing program, can't say enough good things about it. Am really happy I decided to put an SSD in to replace a slower (and failing) regular HDD in my mother-in-laws Samsung laptop.
