PICTURE EXCLUSIVE: Shia LaBeouf 'checks in to rehab in Los Angeles' following dramatic trip to New York which included two altercations and an arrest

His trip to New York was filled with controversy, including an arrest during a performance of Cabaret for allegedly slapping actors, smoking inside and yelling obscenities.

And when Shia LaBeouf got back to Los Angeles on Monday, he allegedly checked into a Hollywood rehab facility, X17 reports.

Photographers for the agency followed him from his home to the facility and said: 'Shia was nervous; he didn't look good all morning. He was looking down and wasn't even talking to his driver. It didn't look like he wanted to do it but he knew he had to.'

Shia was reportedly greeted by a nurse and security guard at the private rehab centre.

The 28-year-old former child star - who has worried friends and family with his erratic behaviour of late - was spotted looking tired and drawn before getting into his car on  Monday.

Sporting the scruffy beard he had at the time of his arrest during a performance of Cabaret on Thursday, Shia wore a pair of ripped denim shorts, a white T-shirt and desert boots, along with a baseball cap.

He spent a night in the cells before being released after a brief court appearance on Friday.

The actor left the Midtown court appearance on Friday morning wearing the same ripped blue T-shirt, skinny jeans and boots as the night before. He had appeared before the judge with a Legal Aid attorney and said nothing.

The Transformers star walked several blocks to a hotel surrounded by media but declined to comment.

He was carrying his shoelaces, which are typically removed in police cells, and a piece of paper from the court. LaBeouf is due back in court on July 24.

It was later revealed that he had gotten in to a confrontation with a homeless man just hours before his arrest, and the whole incident was caught on video.

Crowds of baffled bystanders witnessed LaBeouf racing through traffic in broad daylight after a man who didn't appear to know who he was.

It seemed the actor wanted either a bag of McDonald's food or a baseball cap that the man had. The actor repeatedly said: 'It's me, Shia.'

It has also been claimed that Shia attempted to start a fight with a stranger in New York just one week before his arrest.

And while Shia could use some support right now, his fellow celebrities were quick to bash him on Twitter over his erratic behaviour.

Lena Dunham joked, 'I feel you Shia: In 1993 I was carried out of Les Mis screaming because I couldn't handle the intimations of death' and later tweeted that the incident is 'the best current event we have'.

She wrote: 'Seriously feel awful for the performers and am sorry to contribute to celebrity takedown culture but this is the best current event we have!'

And Lena later tweeted a quote from her friend, actress Gillian Jacobs, saying: 'You know you're a f****n' G when you're arrested during Cabaret.'

Zach Braff, currently starring in Bullets Over Broadway, was equally unsympathetic to Shia.

Referring to the actor's former starring role in the Transformers movies, he quipped: 'Optimus Prime came to @BulletsOverBway last night and was perfectly well behaved and respectful.'

And Zach went on to joke  - in reference to reports that Shia slapped star Alan Cummings bottom during the performance - 'In Shia's defense, @Alancumming 's nipples make me want to go crazy too.'

The former Scrubs star then warned audience members coming to see Bullets Over Broadway to be on their best behaviour.

He said: 'If you're coming to @BulletsOverBway tonight, spitting and cursing is fine, but please don't grab anyone's ass. #Decepticons.'

Earlier this year, LaBeouf stormed out of a Nymphomaniac press conference in Berlin, before arriving on the red carpet for the film's German premiere wearing a paper bag on his head that read, 'I am not famous any more.'

He was also forced to apologise for alleged plagiarism and starred in his own silent art installation in Los Angeles.

SHIA LABEOUF'S SPIRAL OF ERRATIC BEHAVIOR

Shia LaBeouf's arrest for disorderly conduct at a Broadway theater on Thursday is just the latest incident in a string of erratic episodes for the former child star.

Earlier this year, the Transformers star made headlines when he walked the red carpet at the Berlin Film Festival with a brown paper bag over his head.

Around the same time he declared he was 'retiring from public life because of attacks against his artistic integrity'.

In January, LaBeouf got into a scuffle with a fellow drinker at the Hobgoblin pub in New Cross, South London, headbutting him apparently over remarks made about the mother of his girlfriend Mia Goth.

And last year, the actor famously quit the production of Broadway's ORPHANS then shared several confrontational emails between himself and fellow actors Alex Baldwin and Tom Sturridge, explaining why he pulled out of the show.

In 2007, he was arrested for refusing to leave a Walgreens in Chicago but the criminal charges were later dropped.

In February 2005, LaBeouf was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with assault with a deadly weapon for driving into his neighbor's car after losing his temper about having to wait to get into his garage. He then later turned up at his neighbor's door, allegedly waving a kitchen knife.
