OMG! I had no idea I was going to love this book so much! I love when I just stumble into one and love it!

Carissa is a cop and she has a lot of spunk. She doesn't take no lip from anyone. Then she runs into a demon......

--->EXCERPT<---

She continued with small steps toward the middle of the warehouse. Movement to her right caught her eye. Surprise punched her lungs and spread down her abdomen. A monstrous shape materialized from the darkened depths. Dark crimson skin covered exposed muscle on his body and bare head. He snarled showing off his chalky razor sharp teeth. It wasn't the dental work, pointy ears and pig-like nose that set her on edge. No. The reptilian yellow eyes were what ignited her grey matter to the fact he wasn't human. Fear used its way back up to her heart, sending it into a wild gallop.

And thus the story begins as Carissa and her partner are in a warehouse checking on a lead that they really shouldn't have been there for. Then suddenly there are wolves and one of the most handsome men that you have ever seen cutting down demons. But wait, you have seen him... in your dreams.

 :

This vampire is Xen Lyson and the leader of the Phi Athanotoi, an ancient specialist group of vampires and werewolves sworn to protect humans. But there is also Kane the werewolf and Xen's right hand man. There are many more of them of course.

Xen tries to put the mind hypno on Carissa and she shuts him down. She doesn't remember everything but there is something there. She finally gets with Xen through the aide of a family member which was very funny to say the least. There are actually a lot of funny lines in the book, they were awesome.

There are several sexy scenes in the book with Xen and Carissa and graphically good so you might not want to let your young kids read this book. Also there is a good bit cussing but it's in greek. Too cool! I think I might have to say gamato a lot instead of the word it stands for which would be f*ck. The author has a list of words used in the back of the book which is very helpful or I would have been lost!

 :

There are a lot of fight scenes in the book as this evil dude kidnaps Carissa and wants to use her for bad things. He seems to keep getting his hands on her, but it doesn't last. He also has opened a portal and they are always fighting the demons he has let out.

But in the end, after all of the people/demons are taken out for now... Carissa asks her father who is a god to teach her to unleash her abilities to the fullest and teach her. This should be awesome for the next book.

I'm not going to say who her father is but I will leave a picture as a hint. I can't help myself. He's bad @ssed!

What can I say...a real page turner, leaving me at the end to say...what is going to happen next, cannot wait.
The relevance to Greek modern life combining the fantasy world as well as intertwining the chaos of the humanist profiles of the Greek Gods keeps you captivated.
As stated...waiting for book two.

This novel was a quick, easy read. As a longtime fan of The Dark Hunter Series, I found this similar, but without the darkness of the previous novels, which I really liked. I know that authors sometimes use their novels for catharsis, but unfortunately sometimes the novels become too depressing and are no longer enjoyable. With this novel I get the Greek influence that I enjoyed along with the vamps, witches and as an added bonus there are weres. I’m not a huge fan of insta-love, but when the novels involve vamps and weres it is better because they recognize immediately when they meet their mates and let’s be honest if we all had this ability it would save so much heartache and trouble. Since Carissa was part human I liked that she wanted to move slower and she tried but as a demi-god she also knew that Xen was her soulmate. I wish the book was longer, as an avid reader I find books under 300 pages to be little more than short stories, they just whet my appetite for more.

I liked that the author included a glossary for the Greek words but going back and forth interrupts the flow, I wishes there was away for those with e-readers to get to a glossary or maps without having to remember pages numbers or locations.

I urge fans of the Dark Hunter series to give this a try.

4.5/5 Stars: I would like to thank the author and/or publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel in a exchange for an honest unbiased review, a opinions are mine.

High impact action. Adrenaline filled drama. Paranormal romance with gods and demons and more.

Mythology comes to the forefront. What you thought you were taught in school has a new spin with well developed character and a vivid world built around them. Carissa is a demi-god with no knowledge of such. She had dedicated her life to protect and serve her fellow mankind. Then one day she finds this all has changed. I found her to be well rounded, strong, independent, and unwilling to take a backseat when something needs to be done. She was my hero.

Xen the immortal protector of humankind from an unknown, unseen enemy. For thousands of years from afar, until it was all in the face of the people they were protecting. Xen was strong, male, protective, not overbearing, not over-Me. He was dark but not over the top. He was complicated at points. He was male all the time.

This ride through mythology and paranormal has a bit of the edge that has the ground work for an enduring series moving forward. I could compare this works to the beauty, complexity, sensuality, engrossing experience of one of my favorite paranormal romance series DarkHunters from Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Most certainly looking forward to the next book in this series. This was an awesome offering from this debut author. Efthalia this was a wonderful introduction to your vision of paranormal/mythological romance.

Awesome book and extremely well written, I really couldn't stop reading it once I started.  This was a solid story and I’m really looking forward to the second one.  The only part that was a little frustrating was all the greek words most of the time you could easily figure out what it might mean but I would have like a little less of them.   But would definitely recommend this one to anyone who likes the Paranormal or Urban Fantasy Romance books.

The only note is that I could find where is was available to purchase yet so check back later or go to the authors website.

Phantasma by Efthalia
Paranormal Romance
Bewares: Lots of Violence and Supernatural Themes

Carissa is the daughter of a God living in the mortal realm making her living as a police office in America.

That is until things go wrong at a warehouse and her partner is injured. In the skirmish, she comes face to face with Xen, an immortal vampire with a very large sword.

Now the demons are after her and her attraction to Xen is messing with her mind.

I was attracted to this title for 2 points. I have to be upfront with the most amazing drawcard when it comes to this book, it's The Cover. It's awesome with the exquisite detail and attention. I have also waited for this book for a long long time. (Like 5 years??)

First time reading a romance/fantasy novel and thoroughly enjoyed it. From the action packed start through to the conclusion I was hooked and even seen reading it at the gym. Plenty of action and mystery throughout as the story gradually unravelled leaving you at the end, wanting more.. Looking forward to the next installment and intrigued to find out more information on each main characters' backstory.

What really stands out in Phantasma is the love of all things Greek - food, mythology, and family. The author reveals her passion for her Greek heritage and culture through many aspects of this story. As a student in high school, I delighted in learning about Greece and the pantheon of capricious gods, and I wasn't disappointed in the way Phantasma served up a wonderful taste of that world. The author creates a parallel universe filled with all manner of Unearthly beings, and there is an age-old battle between good and evil in book 1 of the series. Reminiscent of True Blood in the the range of paranormal creatures who join the battle - there are vampires and wolves, and witches and gods, as well as a whole host of demons pouring out of Hell - the plot is action-packed from the first page.

Xen and Carissa are well matched protagonists. Both are alphas in their own way and both have unusual and interesting 'gifts', not wholly explored in this book so I expect more is to be revealed in book 2. The action is left at a happy-for-now point, but there is plenty of groundwork laid for the story to continue in book 2. While Xen is the hero of this story, there are several other swoon-worthy males, and a couple of very interesting females who weren't given much 'air-time' in book 1 but who will, I suspect, be featured at greater length in future books. I look forward to the story continuing.

I received an ARC copy for an honest review; given that ARCs are not final edited versions, I have not commented on this aspect.

Yes! Finally! I knew it that Greeks can do everything! I wanted to read a paranormal romance based on Greek mythology and this book was great!

Fast-paced, full of action and with hot and badass characters, “Phantasma” is the perfect read if you are a fan of this genre! The fact that the main character, Carissa, is funny and badass made me like the book since chapter 1 and as for Xen, what can I say? He’s the perfect male for a paranormal romance story: big, badass, sexy and protective of the woman he loves! So, I kept reading it almost without a pause (only to sleep at night and with big reluctance, I assure you!)

I loved the writing style of the author and the way it combines English with Greek language. Believe me, after reading this story you are going to search everything Greek on internet. Myths, names, foods and so many other things!

And now please… I want book 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carissa is a cop who investigates a tip off about a warehouse only to find her world turned upside down - who knew that demons , vampires and werewolves existed .
Zen , the leader of the Phi is immortal, and is fighting demons in the warehouse when Carissa and her partner arrive . He soon realises that Carissa is his mate and tries unsuccessfully to take away her memories of the warehouse fight , it does not work and she is soon drawn into his world = protecting humans from demons .
Carissa becomes much sought after by a rouge vampire and his demons as she is unknowingly a demi-god , the daughter of Ares , who wants to use her sacrfice as way for him to join the gods .
Her fight for her life and acceptance of Zen's love make for an enjoyable read . My only complaint was her inability to contain her fluctuating emotions !

Having grown up in a particularly Greek suburb of inner-western Sydney, the Greek culture, language and mythology have all long held great fascination for me.

So, seeing a paranormal romance that blends all of these with a hefty dose of fast-paced drama and action-packed adventure…..I was all over that like a hungry seagull on a fresh hot chip!

Wow! What an adventure you will be taken on with Phantasma, the debut offering from Sydney author, Efthalia.

Here are my thoughts on Phantasma:

From Charleston to Athens, and on to Sounion, Phantasma weaves together a collection of wildly compelling and believable characters & very exciting mythological action.

Carissa is a fantastic heroine – independent, sure of herself and pretty kick-arse. Seeing how she comes to deal with her newly-discovered persona and power was awesome. Our hero, Xen is a dark and complex character, but I loved that he wasn’t all moodiness and alphaholic. The match of Carissa and Xen is perfect – passionate without being suffocating, strong without being a constant bunfight.

Efthalia has imbued the action with a great hint of humour as well, and there were several times I found myself laughing out loud.

I really loved the liberal use of Greek words and terminology woven into the story. Some of these words I knew (let’s face it, they were the dirtier terms), and there were some that I didn’t know that well. If you are bewildered by the Greek terms and words used throughout the book, there’s a glossary at the end of the book that will really help.

Phantasma is a brilliant debut effort, and a fantastic first book in the Phi Athanatoi series. There is a definite hint as to what may transpire in book 2, and I for one cannot wait for it.

Carissa works for the police and one day she finds herself in a warehouse at the wrong time and her partner and her are attacked by demons. Xen is a vampire that has spent his years protecting humans from a distance. But when he sees Carissa he realizes that she is his mate. Although he tries to take Carissa’s memories of the warehouse, she still remembers bits and pieces. Then she learns that she is a demi-god. Carissa needs to learn how to use her abilities since a rouge vampire wants to sacrifice her to become a god.

This book is heavy on Greek everything, especially words. Just so you know, there is a glossary at the end. Carissa is a strong and independent person but she can make huge mistakes that risk her life. I did like Xen, he is not the typical brooding, possessive male lead that you get in most paranormal stories.

This is a good, paranormal romance with Greek gods and the usual paranormal characters. The world building was wonderful and drew me in. There is a cliffhanger ending that will leave you wanting the next book.

I didn't realise how much I enjoy Greek Gods in my stories! This reminded me of the Gods of Oakleigh series by Juanita Kees, particularly the first book Finding Paradise. The mix of mythology into modern day makes for great fantasy storytelling.

With a title of Phantasma, I was already intrigued to read this story. Steeped in Greek mythology and Greek-American culture was another draw card for me. It didn't disappoint. I was drawn into Carissa's world. A world that went from the ordinary to the paranormal in one encounter. Vampires, demons, gods - all with a modern Greek slant. It was great to see the odd Greek word here. Efthalia does a great job explaining the terms on the whole but there's a glossary at the back as well.

I'm looking forward to finding out more about this world and seeing how Carissa and Xen hold up. The supporting cast made me laugh with their jokes but are likeable as they are also serious when it comes to their duties and loyalty. Carissa is a bit of a smart arse using humour to cope with her situations. Also her love of food made me laugh as I could relate being from a Greek family. Not to mention her Thitsa (aunt) trying to set her up all the time.

Looking forward to Phantasia.

The writing was so beautiful and fast paced. I was easily lost into the world and could see, hear, and feel everything. Even though it was told in third-person, I was easily connected to all the characters and relationships. I flew by the novel in a day because I was entirely caught in rapture. There’s no introduction to the characters; you’re kind of just thrown into it and i was lost for a bit. Especially since the names are extremely unique, when there are also references and words to the greek cultures (which make me so confused at the beginning), and at first I wasn’t sure what they meant, but it gets much better after a few chapters but once you become familiar with the setting, everything is smooth.

This story is about Carissa Alkippes a cop and Xen Lyson a vampire who is the head of the Phi Athanatoi. Carissa Alkippes with her partner John Lopez are investigating a lead. Entering the warehouse they hear a noise and they separate and Carissa runs into a huge beastly creature that is attacked by a wolf. When one of the creatures attack and strangle her she saved by Xen Lyson. This opens Carissa to the paranormal world in a enjoyable story with lots of action, very likable characters with engaging interactions along with Greek Mythology kept me engaged in this well written story that started a series. I volunteer to read and review this ARC that I received via Booksprout.

Carissa feels terrible about dragging her partner into a dark warehouse while they are off duty just to follow up on a tip from one of her informants. And of course they run into trouble, but she can’t explain what she is seeing. Carissa has dreamt about the same fictional man since she was a teenager, but never did she expect to encounter him in real life wielding a sword in a battle against some demon creatures. Next thing she knows, her partner is in the hospital fighting for his life and she has no idea what happened, only a foggy memory of a fight and her dream man. Little does she know, but her life just got so complicated, and Carissa is right in the middle of it.

I was interested to read this because it sounded like an interesting new world filled with vampires, werewolves, and Greek gods. I am always on the hunt for new urban fantasy (which FYI this is not, but whatever) and I was intrigued as to what I would find. Well, this is more along the lines of a paranormal romance, which is ok too. I did like the action the story presented me with as well as the plot that kept forward at a good pace. I enjoyed Carissa and Xen, the two main characters who share the narration of the book, and found them to be well described and full of depth. There were so many side-ish characters introduced I could see many book in this series future.

Let’s talk about my problems with the book. There was a LOT of Greek used since all the characters are of Greek heritage and I do not speak Greek even a little. Needless to say, I was confused for a while but then I made up my own translations for the words that seemed to work, so whatever. After finishing the book, I did discover a glossary of Greek terms at the end. Not super convenient on an ereader (especially since I did not even know it existed). The main character spent a lot of time eating, and great detail went into describing her foods. It got a little old for me, but thanks for the realism? Carissa also did some stupid stuff that kind of surprised me since she is a smart person (in theory) and a police officer. Plenty of times she fought against her protectors because she felt she needed space or knew best, and each time she was kidnapped. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Well, she was fooled at least 3 times here and an army had to go risk their own lives and rescue her each time. For a police officer, she was quite a damsel in distress.

I liked the book (despite how negative my review seems) and would have probably given it a higher rating if it hadn’t been so full of sex. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with sex in a book, and this was not too explicit, but remember that I went into this expecting an urban fantasy, not a romance with some paranormal thrown in. At one point, after the first real introduction the two main characters have, the characters have sex repeatedly, even though Carissa is a virgin and had just told him she was not ready for that kind of intimacy. And then BAM, sex happens. It happens a lot actually, at pages and pages at a time. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next, and found myself skipping over the encounters to progress the plot. I am sure that I am being crazy, and romance readers will probably complain that they wanted more, but I just wasn’t feeling it here.

I thought the ending was kind of depressing, with something miraculous being destroyed. Hopefully everyone is wrong and it was not, but maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part. There were so many loose ends left open that I have tons of questions as to what will happen. I can see the series becoming even more developed and interesting and I would like to read more.

I received this in return for my honest review.

I received a free copy from Smith Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

The story first starts out with what seems to be the introduction of a kick butt heroine.

“I might pin his balls to the wall. Not that I want to see that part of him. Grinning, she envisaged Tom's face when she shoved her gun up his nostril and threatened his manhood.” P1

Unfortunately she just didn’t live up to this image throughout the whole story. We start with Carissa going to investigate a lead on a case and ending up attacked by a host of demons and rescued by vampires and werewolves. We have the typical love at first sight and jump into bed with each other romance so typical of romance novels. Our girl finds out she’s the daughter of Ares and her fated mate is a vampire. She really didn’t freak out or anything, just blindly accepted it. All of the sudden a crazy lunatic from her childhood pops into the picture and kidnaps her. The rest of the story is spent covering the repeated rescue/kidnapping of Carissa. We end with the bad guy dying at the hand of Ares, presumably beginning a supernatural war so that we can have more to this series.

I realize this is the author’s first novel but some of the things she wrote just baffled me.

“A premonition formed behind her eyelids. She spaced out for a few seconds. Her ghost in a suit whirling around her at a ball. She hated these glimpses of what might be. They popped into her head from time to time. Sometimes things manifested other times not, but with Mister Sexy Pants she might be wishing for it.” P53

At what point were we told she has this ability? I guess this was the introduction to that theme. It was the first and last time it was mentioned. It just really had no place in the story at this point and if it wasn’t used again I don’t see the point of mentioning it at all.

There were plenty of other awkward incidents. What really bothered me was all the bantering and joking while trying to escape from Hal and his demons. For instance:

“Kirke stopped and Carissa smashed into her back. She straightened up and stood shoulder to shoulder with the witch Adam turned to look at them. They looked at each other, then at Adam. Loud laughs split the air. Simultaneously, they both slapped a hand over their mouths.” P. 336

Maybe if all this silliness wasn’t going on every single time, Carissa would have been rescued and never kidnapped again.

The dialogue was awful. Absolutely awful. I enjoyed the story and I do want to continue reading the series as it’s written but I genuinely hope the author develops this important part of writing any story.

Lastly, while this may be a review copy, it seems like it’s more of a finished copy. I’m tempted to buy the Kindle edition to confirm my suspicions. One of my pet peeves with any book is grammar. There are missing words, wrong words, poorly structured sentences. Having not seen a copy in a store, I am unsure whether these have been edited out. My gut tells me no and that the author let her book be put out this way.

I did, despite all my criticisms, enjoy this book. I look forward to future installations in the series. I hope that as she writes more books, the author’s dialogue skills will improve and no longer make me groan every other page.

Some spoilers ahead.

I was quite torn on how to rate or review this book. It has a lot of potential, but i feel like it wasn't quite finished. It needed some tidying up and i really think that it could have easily been 100 pages shorter.

This book is typical pnr. Hot sexy guy, tough, independent, beautiful girl who of course is a virgin, insta love, and lots of man saving woman. The author has tried to make it stand out from the massive PNR crowd by going with Greek characters and incorporating lots of real Greek words and weaving Greek mythology throughout. I spent a lot of the book googling the Greek words so that i knew what was being said. I didn't mind that, what i did mind was when it had the Greek word followed but the English words afterwards. So the author is just saying the same thing again and again.

I think a good editor would have picked these things up, as well as the occasional missing word or incorrect spelling. They would have also pointed out that the story repeats itself. Carissa gets kidnapped and rescued five times..... By the same person.... Um really, that's not cool. Its a bit boring actually.

Xen and Carissa were both exactly what you would expect from this type of book. They are cardboard cutouts of every other book out there, and the writing wasn't good enough to compensate for it.

I was going to rate this 2.5 stars and round it up to 3, but while writing this i've realised its a 2 star book.

The conversations are awkward, Carissa's internal dialogue is irritating and it just doesn't feel like a finished version of a book.
I want to know what happens in the next book, because it has the potential to be great.

I received this from Goodreads giveaways.

For my full review, please visit: http://boundtobeme.org/2016/03/28/pha...

The book starts off with a good amount of action. But I couldn’t help but feel the over abundance of Greek profanity used by Charissa, not only took away from the plot but also prevented the reader from fully submerging within the story. As I’m reading the first chapter, I felt like I was constantly stopping and wondering what a word meant. The authors word choice in general is at times interesting but mostly I found it odd, if not sometimes awkward. The way things were described was unique but I couldn’t help but feel like the flow was somewhat hindered. As though the author was trying to make things too complex or something.

This is one of those love at first sight books, where the characters have a preordained mate. Had I known this book was like this, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up because I really don’t like book like these. I find them unrealistic and even in my fantasy books, I need some element of reality mixed in.

The story picks up some and the complexity is entertaining. But for some reason I just couldn’t fall in love or get completely lost within the plot. Again, I think this has a lot to do with the instant attraction and dependence between the characters. If you are into these kinds of books, give this one a shot. But I don’t like I am a good judge for this book because this book wasn’t for me.

I tried, but sadly could not get into this one.

Between the Greek curses (which don't come up when tapped on Kindle) and the sometimes strange word choices, the story just doesn't flow.

Maybe someone with a more profound vocabulary and some knowledge of Greek would enjoy this, but there's nothing in what I read that makes me want to struggle through this.
