DMRC asked about groundwater use

May 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The National Green Tribunal has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to submit details of the permission granted to it for extracting groundwater, which it has been using to clean metro trains.

A Bench, comprising Justice U. D. Salvi and expert-member Ranjan Chatterjee, which had earlier issued notices to the DMRC, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, sought details from the Delhi Metro.

The order came while hearing a plea filed by Delhi resident Kush Kalra, who had alleged that the DMRC was extracting groundwater to clean its trains, resulting in depletion of the water table.
