JAY – The North Jay Water District has put out a boil-water order until further notice that will be effective until further notice.

Only the customers who lost water need to boil it. The water line broke Thursday morning and was not a major break. A crew got to it quickly and the water was back on by mid afternoon.

The district is now required to bring samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E.coli and coliform bacteria. The district will make an announcement when customers can stop boiling water.

Per Superintendent Mike Wells, affected customers (From the Trestle on Old Jay Hill Road, south to Woodman Hill) should boil water for one minute. That includes water that they plan to drink, use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes. After the water is boiled, it can be put in the refrigerator.

District representatives made every attempt to contact all customers involved.
