Is there a way to use my PS3 controller on my PC without having to enable it everytime on the DS3 tool? Something along the lines of it always being recognized as an XBOX 360 controller.

Yep, its called SCP Filter.

First, if you have Windows 7 download the Xbox360 drivers from here.

Get .NET 4.0 you should have it installed already, but if you don't its here.

Now download the SCP Filter here

Open the archive with the tool of your choice. (EG: 7zip, Winrar, Winzip)

Extract it's contents to C:/Program Files/Scarlet.Crush Productions

Navigate to C:/Program Files/Scarlet.Crush Productions/bin/

Run scpdriver.exe , if your on Vista or XP check force install.

If you want it to use a bluetooth dongle, first plug it in, allow windows to install the default drivers.

Then when in scpdriver.exe check the bluetooth driver option. (Note that the dongle will only be useable for PS3 controllers)

Then click install.

Now if your on Windows Vista or Windows XP install the Xbox360 drivers from here.

Then restart.

Run scpserver.exe within the directory C:/Program Files/Scarlet.Crush Productions/bin/

You'll need to run scpserver.exe every time your computer starts so I would recommend adding it to your startup items.

Startup Folder:

Windows 8/8.1

Windows 7/Vista

Windows XP

Just add a shortcut to scpserver.exe in the startup folder if you want it to launch at startup.

And you're done!~

Yep, this works like a charm.

I wish directinput controller support wasn't dying. There is no way in hell i'm spending an ungodly amount of money on an XBOX controller.

40 bucks is an ungodly amount of money for a gaming input peripheral? My mouse and keyboard cost over twice as much apiece...

It is when you already have 3 directinput controllers and a keyboard and mouse.

...Not to mention the sub-par performance of the Xbox360 controller. In all honesty, I find the ds3 and F310 controllers to be vastly superior to the 360. Too bad I couldn't find the F310 when I had the money and still can't make my ds3 work; I'm basically stuck with a wireless 360 PC controller. It's not even responsive enough for sidescrollers. It gets on my nerves.

The third party knock off versions work just as well and are recognized by Microsoft software

Is this also applicable to generic controlers?

Generic PS3 controllers will probably work with this method, but not as well as official ones. And this wont work at all with generic USB controllers.

Thanks!

I extracted it to Desktop and then moved it to Program Files (not x86), was that a mistake? I have everything you mention and it still won't work with my Dualshock 3 controller. Windows 7 appears to recognize my ds3 correctly, but it doesn't work in games. (I have also rebooted)

When I run SCPserver I get "Host Address: Disconected" (my controller is connected and recognized by win7, also tried plugging it in before and after I run the exe). After that, I get "-- Controller : UDP_worker_Thread Starting" but still the controller isn't working (plugged via USB, not using Bluetooth).

What else can I do?

Also, how to properly unistall?

Important; The DS3 controller doesn't respond to testing (in devices).

Run device manager.

Find the PlayStation 3 controller

Click on the driver tab

Does it say that the driver used is from Scarlet.Crush Productions?

Also, do you have .NET 4.0 installed?

Also, you might just want to try reinstalling with the Controller plugged in.

I couldn't find any DS3 references. Could it possibly be a HID device? If so, under which branch?

I have everything installed.

HID stands for Human Interface Device so it's probably under one of those. But I don't know witch one it would be under as windows has an unfortunate habit of being very messy.

Didn't see it mentioned but i am currently using Better DS3. It uses the motionjoy drivers however is completly offline so none of that call home behavior that DS3 Tool has. Currently have it in my start up folder and start minimized so its just a matter of hitting the PS button on the controller and it connects. Bluetooth is working fine as well.

You could just put the ds3 shortcut in your startup folder so it starts automatically when the machine turns on. That is what I did for my wife so she doesn't have to fuss with it every time.

Wouldn't I still have to enable the controller every time I plug it in though?

I dunno. She leaves it plugged in.

No, DS3Tool enables the controller automatically if it's previously been set up.

Interesting, I've just been enabling every time I plug it in. Good food for thought
