ROCKLAND — Voting unanimously, Rockland's City Council elected Louise MacLellan-Ruf as Rockland's new mayor Monday evening, Nov. 16. MacLellan-Ruf is now the fourth woman to be elected to that post in Rockland's recent history.

Before the election, newly elected councilor Wiliam Jillson was sworn in to his seat and term. Jillson defeated Rockland's previous mayor Frank Isganitis in the November 3 election.

MacLellan-Ruf said she was looking forward to a great interactive year with the public.

"There is a lot of positive energy," she said. "A lot more workshops that engage the community. Getting more information about what is happening in the community. Working on one of the things I love — the harbor trail — as well as engaging the community in worthwhile activities."

"I think she'll be a great mayor," said City Manager James Chaousis.

Councilor Larry Pritchett said it had been five years since Rockland has had a woman mayor.

"I think it's great," he said. "Louise has done a really good job in her two years so far and I have high expectations for her as mayor."
