Origin is famous for big hits and big moments, so it’s always a bit of a shock and a shame when the biggest moment of the opening ten minutes is a big blunder.
Few come bigger than Josh Morris’ error as the Blues earned their first penalty of the match.
Having kicked for touch to gain a bit of extra ground, the ball was passed to Morris to take the tap and restart the set.
What happened next was the kind of stuff that would have an Under-10 coach pulling their hair out.
Morris went for the tap but his mind was elsewhere, and he fumbled the ball. Just like that, a 50-metre restart for the Blues turned into the opposite situation – Queensland with a fresh attacking set right on halfway.
Ultimately the Maroons set was defused, but mounting pressure is so important in Origin – you can’t let a penalty on your tryline become six more for your opponent.
