Rio Olympic Games 2016, DAY 15 LATEST: Mo Farah wins men's 5000m final as Team GB's smash through London 2012 medal haul with 66

Team GB smashed through the medal haul of 65 that was set at London 2012 on Saturday night.

Bronze in the women's 4x400m final gave GB their 66th medal of the Olympic Games in Rio.

Mo Farah stole the headlines, though, when he won the men's 5000m to become the first Briton ever to win four gold medals on the track.

And that rounds off the last night of competition at the 2016 Olympic Games...

Thanks for joining me this evening/morning. It's been a pleasure. What another outstanding night for Team GB in the Olympic Stadium.

Mo Farah will steal the headlines, and rightly so, but let's not forget the many other impressive performances that helped GB smash the total of 65 medals that was set at London 2012 - 66 is great achievement.

It is, then, only right that I leave you with a picture of the four women who won bronze for GB in the 4x400m final (Christine Ohuruogu, Emily Diamond, Eilidh Doyle and Anyika Onuora).

02:23
Christine Ohuruogu clinched it in emphatic style...

A very strong performance by Team GB's women in the 4x400m final to finish with a time of three minutes 25.88 seconds. It didn't look as though bronze would be possible halfway through the race before Emily Diamond turned on the turbo and Christine Ohuruogu ran strongly over the last 400m. A job well done.

Exceptional performance from Farah wins 65th medal for Team GB

That was the perfect approach. He waited, held the pace steady and then attacked. That's four Olympic gold medals - the most any Brit has won on the track. It also means GB have won 65 medal at this summer's Olympics. That equals the total won at London in 2012.

Fourth lap... Mo still waiting

The pack is getting more stretched now. Mo's up to fifth.

Brazil's footballers are in party mode... Neymar leads his team

Team GB on 63 medals... two away from London 2012 total

Tonight could (should) be the night when Team GB equal their total of 65 medals that they won at London in 2012.

And where could those elusive medals come from? GB have plenty of chances tonight but look no further than the bronze medal contests that Bianca Walkden and Mahama Cho find themselves in.

Morgan Lake up next in the women's high jump final

Well after a pulsating football gold medal final in the Maracana, we return to the Olympic Stadium. Team GB's Morgan Lake is in the women's high jump final. She may need to jump higher than she has all season (1.94m) in order to win a medal.

Full-time in extra-time: Brazil 1-1 Germany (penalty shootout to follow)
23:57

118min: Neymar has been sensational tonight. Rather than taking the selfish option, he has chosen on a number of occasions to drop into midfield and try to unlock the German defence. It's just unfortunate that Felipe Anderson hasn't been able to take advantage. 1-1.

23:53

113min: This is cruising to penalties. Both sets of players look knackered. Neymar is limping and seems to have some sort of calf problem. Sven Bender looks equally as tired but is refusing to be substituted. Commitment or stupidity? 1-1.

23:46

108min: Superb chance for Brazil. Felipe Anderson, one-on-one with Horn, couldn't quite do enough to put his right-footed effort beyond the goalkeeper. The best chance of extra-time. Brazil, in this second half of extra-time, are looking more prepared to go forward and commit players than at any point in the whole match. They don't want penalties. 1-1.

23:41
Half-time in extra-time: Brazil 1-1 Germany
23:40

104min: Fair to say that this has gone a little flat. Neither team wants to make a mistake. Brazil look the more likely to try something but aren't committing players forward from midfield. Luan and Neymar have both been left in charge of targeting Germany's defence. 1-1.

23:09

80min: This is brilliant stuff from Brazil. They are chasing everything down. The atmosphere inside the Maracana is truly magnificent. These Brazilian players are playing aggressive and attacking football. Felipe Anderson, having missed his earlier opportunity, is like a man possessed. Neymar's tricks are coming off too. 1-1.

23:05

76min: Felipe Anderson waits far too long and his chance goes begging. What a superb ball Neymar played through to Anderson but he was pegged back by Klostermann. He was aware and got back quickly to stop Anderson getting a shot away. 1-1.

69min: Gabriel Barbosa is replaced by Felipe Anderson for Brazil.

Choong didn't expect that but it's progress

Many expected Joe Choong to do better than that but let's not forget his previous best was seventh in the European Championships. It took 20 minutes for things to turn around in Rio and they did in dramatic fashion.

He's told the BBC: 'Everything went really well except for the shooting. I was very happy with my first shoot and the last was the same but the middle I don't know what happened.

'There's been some positives. The girls coming back to finish top 10 and Jamie did well coming back. His swimming was close to be his PB, which he has done for four years.'

22:09

22:05

33min: Brilliant spectacle this has been so far. Fast and furious is probably the best way to describe it. Germany getting closer and closer as Brazil seem fairly content with sitting back and defending. Max Meyer the latest Germany player to go close.

21:50

17min: Tempo still very high inside the Maracana. Neymar is getting much more of the ball than before while Gabriel Barbosa is looking more of threat each time he charges up the left flank. The fouls are racking up too, though. Brazil giving one away, while Germany have conceded five.

21:44

11min: Best chance of the game so far falls to Germany. Julian Brandt did brilliantly to keep the ball under control as Brazil's defenders pressed on the edge of their penalty area. Initially he turned away from the goal, before his powerful shot struck the crossbar and cannoned back out.

She sneaks another kick under the guard to take a 3-0 lead and there looks to be no way back for the Serb now as she gets in another two good kicks to win 5-0. Glorious stuff from Liverpool's Walkden!

USA women's team seal volleyball broze

Karch Kiraly's top-ranked US women's volleyball team has earned an Olympic bronze medal, hardly the colour the Americans planned for when they came to Brazil chasing the event's first gold in history.

The US topped beat Holland 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 25-19 on Saturday, bouncing back for bronze two days after a heartbreaking five-set defeat by Serbia in the semi-finals.

After Kim Hill's ace on match point, the US women fell into an embrace and Kiraly hugged his coaches and brought his team together for a cheer.

Holland, who were playing in their first Olympics since 1996 in Atlanta - where they finished fourth and surprised many as the Dutch put women's volleyball on the map with their gutsy, never-give-up style - were again impressive.

Nigeria beat Honduras to clinch men's football bronze

Sadiq Umar scored a brace as Nigeria won the Olympic bronze medal by holding off Honduras 3-2 on Saturday in Belo Horizonte.

It was Nigeria's third overall Olympic medal in soccer. The West African nation won gold at the 1996 Olympics with a 3-2 victory over Argentina, and won the silver in 2008, falling to Argentina 1-0 in the final.

The medal was a reward for an Olympic tournament that got off to a rocky start. Nigeria's arrival in Brazil was delayed until just hours before the team's opening match because of a flight mix-up in Atlanta.

Honduras, which challenged with two late goals, head home from Brazil empty-handed but the team's appearance in the medal round was its best-ever finish at the Olympics.

Brazil plays Germany in the gold-medal match later Saturday at Rio's famed Maracana Stadium.

Nicola Adams follows in Harry Mallin's footsteps by retaining Olympic title

Nicola Adams has become the first British boxer to retain an Olympic title since Harry Mallin in 1924.

Mallin, a middleweight from Shoreditch, won his first Olympic title in 1920 at the age of 28, and repeated the feat four years later.

Mallin need nine bouts to complete his double-winning feat, and his path into history was not without controversy.

In his second bout in 1920, his opponent, American Samuel Lagonia, was disqualified for persistent holding, a decision which so enraged the Americans they threatened to withdraw their entire team from the Games.

And in his 1924 bout with Roger Brousse, Mallin initially dropped the decision, only for it to be reversed when he pointed out that the Frenchman had persistently bitten him during the contest.

YOKA STARTS JOYCE MIND GAMES AHEAD OF OLYMPIC SUPER-HEAVYWEIGHT FINAL SHOWDOWN

World champion Tony Yoka has accused Joe Joyce of running scared and derided the Briton as a 'robot' ahead of their Olympic super-heavyweight final showdown at Rio Centro on Sunday.

Yoka scored a controversial win over Joyce in the semi-finals of the World Championships in Qatar last year and the sharp-punching Frenchman believes it will give him the psychological edge.

Yoka said: 'I have sparred a lot with Joe and I think he is more or less scared of me, psychologically, because of what happened in the World Championships.

'I don't feel anything when he hits me. He's just obsessed with hitting the other fighter - he's like a robot.

'He is a good person and very focused and determined, but he is boxing with his muscles, and not with his head.'

Joyce had to shrug off a poor start in his semi-final against Kazakh Ivan Dychko, but he came on strong in the latter part of the contest, thundering home big hooks as his opponent tired, to claim a clear decision.

Meanwhile Yoka picked off Croatian opponent Filip Hrgovic from the back foot to win a less convincing decision on the judges' cards, setting up Sunday's showdown to determine who will succeed 2012 champion Anthony Joshua.

Joshua, who was a keen observer at ringside, believes Joyce is a better fighter in many respects than he was when he completed his remarkably swift rise through the ranks to be crowned super-heavyweight champion.

He said: 'Compared to the Anthony Joshua we saw in 2012, Joe Joyce could be better, so I believe he will win the gold medal.

'He has more experience and grounding than I had had in 2012 because he has been taking his time. He has good stamina and he has got a better jab, and he can do a back-flip better than me.'

Just in case you missed it...

This is the heartbreaking moment Team GB's taekwondo star Lutalo Muhammad broke down in tears after losing out on a gold medal in an agonising final-second defeat.

Muhammad, 25, was beating Cheick Sallah Cisse as they entered the final second of their gold medal bout in Rio last night.

Cisse swung a desperate last-ditch kick, hitting the British fighter on the head and handing the Ivorian an 8-6 victory.

Muhammad, who won bronze in London in 2012, could not contain his emotions and burst into tears as he was interviewed shortly after losing out.

Rissveds clinches mountain bike gold

Jenny Rissveds of Sweden pulled away late from Maja Wloszczowska of Poland to win gold at the women's mountain bike race.

The riders were alone together at the head of the field starting the last of the six-plus lap race. Rissveds then powered away on the first long uphill of the 3-mile course, building an insurmountable lead on Wloszczowska.

Rissveds finished with a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 seconds - which was 37 seconds faster than the silver medalist.

Catharine Pendrel held off Canadian team-mate Emily Batty for the bronze.

Robeisy Ramirez wins his second Olympic crown

Cuba's Robeisy Ramirez won the men's Olympic bantamweight gold medal on Saturday and ended the United States' hopes of their first men's champion since 2004.

The 2012 flyweight gold medallist beat 19-year-old Shakur Stevenson, the bright prospect on the US men's team who had reached the final after a semi-final walkover, on a split decision.

The gold was Cuba's second of the boxing tournament after Julio Cesar La Cruz secured the light-heavyweight title on Thursday.

Russia's Vladimir Nikitin and Uzbekistan's Murodjon Akhmadaliev took the bronze medals.

But will he win gold? We're in the third and final round. It's a grandstand finish and this is going to be a very, very close call.

Adams WINS Olympic gold for a SECOND time

Adams has done it and she joins an exclusive club by becoming the first woman to win two Olympic golds in boxing. A sensational performance and a fully-deserved result for Britain's boxing hero.

18:12
Round 4

Adams leads 29-28 on the judges scorecards going into this final round and she continues to dominate in the fourth and final round of this final in Rio.

Ourahmoune, her French opponent, was swinging with some strong hooks in the latter stages of this round - and was successful with a few. An incredibly tight match and this decision will be very, very tight.

Round 3

The first and second rounds have been awarded to Adams, the reigning Olympic champion, and she looks to be on her way to yet another gold. Her movement is exceptional today and Ourahmoune is finding it hard to get anywhere near the Brit.

And as the third round reaches its conclusion, Adams lands a strong punch on her opponent to finish strongly. Calm and collected performance so far from Britain's boxing star.

18:05
Round 2

Adams sweeped the opening round unanimously and she continued her impressive start with a good round. Ourahmoune was on the back foot for the majority of this round with Adams landing a great right-handed uppercut. The bell rings in Rio and Adams finished the strongest of the two (again).

18:03
Round 1

A blockbuster opening round in Rio with both boxers going for big hits in the first 30 seconds. Adams, the Brit, was hit with a cracking right hand by her French opponent.

Adams landed effectively to the body and head - and on her return to the corner her coaches tell her 'the jab is the key'.

They came for a third-straight Olympic gold, but Norway's women's handball team had to settle for bronze.

After being defeated in the semi-finals by Russia, Norway recovered well to beat Holland 36-26 in Saturday's bronze medal game.

Nora Mork scored seven goals for Norway, which led 19-13 at half time and played strong defense in the second half to hold off a Dutch fightback.

Norway has now won a women's handball medal at six of the last eight Olympics, including gold in 2008 and 2012.

'Heartbroken' Daley surprised by semi-final elimination

Speaking to the BBC, Daley said: 'I have worked so hard these past four years and yesterday I got an Olympic record but today it just wasn't meant to be, that is what diving does.

'I truly am heartbroken. I felt in peak physical condition and I thought I could have won. It is really hard to accept.

'Today my mind and body weren't clicking. I was giving it my all and training has been really good. The other guys did amazing.

'I'm so happy with how GB have done, so proud to be part of it and I wanted to be able to stand on top of that podium so it will be another four years of hard work.'

'We asked Jonny Brownlee before the race what it was like and all he sad was 'it's really hard'.

'I don't think I could ask much more of myself. Fourth is probably the worst place to come but it's still fourth at the Olympics. We have one medal in the home now and we can put it on display.'

'I knew it would come down to me and Non, which was the worst thing ever because I wanted this to be us together. I think the first thing I said was 'I'm so sorry'. What can you do when there were two better girls on the day?

Gwen Jorgensen WINS the women's triathlon

The American comes home in first place with Nicola Spirig, the Olympic champion in London, comes home for silver and it's Vicky Holland clinches bronze for Britain.

It's heartbreak for Non Stanford who was leading her fellow Brit for the majority of this race but Holland moved through the gears in the closing stages and sprinted past her to finish third.

Daley needs to perform the dive his life to reach the semi-finals but that's a disappointing sixth dive and it's not going to be enough. His score is 50.60 and he finishes in 18th place.

The Brit, in what is a huge shock, will not compete in the final tonight.

16:54
Women's triathlon

We have just one lap to go in the last stage of this women's triathlon and it's now Jorgensen who leads ahead of Spirig - and the two Brits trail the leading pair. Standford is third at the moment and is on her way to clinching a stunning bronze.

The athletes have reached the cycle summit for the last time as they prepare to leave wheels behind for the last stage - and 10km run.

Jorgensen is going strong in this race, the American will be delighted with how this race is panning out. But Britain could very much have a medal by the end of this event with Stanford and Holland in the mix for silver and gold.

Women's golf final round

Korea's Inbee Park looked on course to claim the first Olympic gold in women's golf since 1900, but the remaining medals were firmly up for grabs in Rio.

Park took a two-shot lead into the final round at Reserva de Marapendi and extended it in style thanks to a hat-trick of birdies from the third and another on the eighth.

That took the seven-time major winner, whose place in the Games was in serious doubt due to a thumb injury, to 15 under par and into a five-shot lead over China's Shanshan Feng, with world number one Lydia Ko another shot behind on nine under.

Nine players were within three shots of Ko in the bronze medal position, with American Gerina Piller on eight under, Great Britain's Charley Hull and American Stacy Lewis on seven under and Sweden's Anna Nordqvist among the group on six under.

Play had started from both the first and 10th tee due to the threat of bad weather later in the day, with the final group of Park, Ko and Piller teeing off at 8:44am local time (12.44 BST).

After a brilliant display on the front nine, it was a major surprise to see Park pull her tee shot on the 10th into the water, resulting in the 28-year-old's first bogey of the day.

And when Feng holed from 10 feet for birdie on the 11th in the group ahead, the gap was down to just three shots heading into the toughest part of the course.

Ko remained two shots behind Feng in third, with Hull only a shot adrift thanks to a birdie from six feet on the 11th.

Australian athletes released by police after agreeing to fine

Several Australian Olympic athletes were released by Brazilian police on Saturday after agreeing to pay a fine for entering the basketball arena to watch a semi-final game between Australia and Serbia without proper accreditation.

Fiona de Jong, chief executive of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), told reporters outside the police station where the athletes were taken for questioning late on Friday that they had entered the arena without the correct accreditation by 'mistake'.

'We have agreed on an outcome which is the payment of a fine and good behaviour bond for each of the athletes involved,' de Jong said.

The athletes were each fined 10,000 brazilian reais (£2,380).

'The translation is not precise but it was effectively for using a document for a purpose not intended, falsifying a document,' de Jong said on Saturday morning. 'We have already started an internal investigation.'

Australian team chief Kitty Chiller hit out at organisers.

'I am very angry they had to go through this,' she said of the athletes. 'The athletes are not at fault and we will provide counselling.'

Here's a recap of what happened yesterday

Great Britain's women became Olympic hockey champions for the first time after Maddie Hinch and Hollie Webb's penalty shoot-out heroics ended Holland's dynasty. Nicola White's last-quarter strike had levelled the match at 3-3 against the two-time defending champions.

Nick Skelton won Great Britain's first ever individual showjumping gold medal. The 58-year-old produced two clear rounds to go into a jump-off, where he went clear again.

Lutalo Muhammad was denied a gold medal in the -80kg category in taekwondo when final opponent Cheick Salah Cisse of Ivory Coast connected with a head shot in the final second to win 8-6.

Britain's 4x100m women's relay team set a national record to win bronze behind the USA and Jamaica. But the men's 4x400m relay team's hopes of emulating them were dashed when they were disqualified, pending an appeal. Holly Bradshaw finished fifth in the women's pole vault and the men's 4x100m relay team were sixth.

Joe Joyce will fight for super-heavyweight gold on Sunday after winning his semi-final against Kazakhstan's Ivan Dychko. In the final Joyce will get the chance to avenge his controversial World Championship semi-final loss to Frenchman Tony Yoka.

Tom Daley qualified for Saturday's men's 10 metres platform semi-final by finishing first in Friday's preliminary round. The 22-year-old led from the third round and finished with 571.85 points to beat Chinese duo Qiu Bo and Chen Aisen.

Charley Hull's hopes of winning a golf medal faded when she could only manage a third round of 74, four shots adrift of the top three. She's currently underway in the final round.

Britain's record of having won a medal in every women's modern pentathlon event ended as Kate French finished sixth and London silver medallist Samantha Murray ninth.

GB heroes of Rio to be celebrated in Manchester and London

Manchester is to stage a homecoming parade for Britain's triumphant Olympic and Paralympic stars, with a further national event to be held in London to mark their success, Theresa May has announced.

The Prime Minister said that both events would take place in October after the Paralympians have returned from the games in Rio.

'It will be a celebration fit for heroes - and rightly so, because that is exactly what they are,' Mrs May said.

The decision to stage the main parade in Manchester follows calls for it to be held outside the capital to reflect the contribution made by athletes from across the UK.

Previously, Britain's Olympians and Paralympians paraded through the streets of London after the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Games.

The choice of Manchester will come as a disappointment to Leeds and Leicester which had both staked a claim to host the festivities.

Women's triathlon underway in an hour (3pm)

Great Britain's Non Stanford, Vicky Holland and Helen Jenkins have the chance to emulate the Brownlee brothers at Copacabana Beach.

But American Gwen Jorgensen is the gold medal favourite in the women's Olympic triathlon on Saturday.

Jorgensen was an All-American track star at the University of Wisconsin, where she also was on the swim team. She was recruited to try triathlon seven years ago and is now the top woman in the sport.

She's won back-to-back ITU world championships but cut back on her schedule this year so she could focus on the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Her 2012 London Games didn't go well as a flat tire on her bike relegated her to 38th place in Hyde Park.

The triathlon at the Rio Olympics consists of a one-loop ocean swim, a steep 24-mile bike ride and a 6.2-mile run.

I think Liam Heath enjoyed this ceremony...

Liam Heath has proudly stepped on the podium in Rio and received his gold medal after a sensational performance in the men's 200m kayak sprint:

Women's K4 500m final

Spirited performance from Great Britain's Jess Walker, Rachel Cawthorn, Rebii Simon and Louisa Gurski but they miss out on on a medal by finishing down in seventh.

But it's Hungary, as expected, who clinch gold in the women's K4 500m final.

Quick chat with Liam Heath in the mixed zone. He quit his job as a bartender at TGI Friday’s in 2009 when he heard the 200 metre sprint was coming into the Olympics and went back to full training.

He is very glad he did now.

Great Britain's Liam Heath won gold in the men's 200m canoe sprint final as he came on strong to beat Maxime Beaumont of France into second place.

Heath, who won K2 silver with partner Jon Schofield on Thursday, went into the individual race as the hot favourite for the gold medal and didn't disappoint.

The Brit made a slow start but came on strong to pass Beaumont of France in the closing stages to claim the gold medal. Ronald Rauhe of Germany and Spain's Saul Craviotto Rivero finished in a dead heat for bronze.

Just in case you missed it...

You've done well if you've managed to avoid reading the sensational news that Usain Bolt clinched yet another gold in the early hours of this morning...

Back at the lagoon for what is my final event of the Olympics.

The British women’s four are going in the 500 metres at 1.47pm UK, although they are less fancied for a medal. Incredible to think that this was where I pitched up eighteen days ago and what has gone on since. It has been beyond extraordinary for British sport.

Heath hails 'unbelievable' achievement

'It has been in my mind every single day for the last four years , but I felt that I went into automatic pilot. It is unbelievable. You don't realise who is where alongside you. You are just focused on your lane

'It is worth every ounce. I want to thank everyone here and at home. Jon has been out everyday doing drills with me and checking my boat over even though he finished.'

An upgrade for Heath

Fresh from his silver medal with Joe Schofield on Thursday, Heath paddled on his own to victory - and what a performance it was. Quotes from the man himself coming your way.

That is Great Britain's 25th gold of the Olympic Games, three more than China in the third place in the medal table.
