The father of five is expecting a new baby with wife Alicia Etheridge, the news unfortunately coming to light at a heartbreaking time in his life, as 21-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown remains on life support at an Atlanta hospital.
Family members have been in and out of the hospital all week to visit, and tonight around 20 people from Brown's side of the family, including several children, gathered at a nearby restaurant to mark his 46th birthday.
Security was tight at the gathering, with a police officer meeting Brown at the door and escorting him to the private dining area within the restaurant where a table was set for 20.
Guests who were mingling at the bar waiting for his arrival then followed him into the private room, which was shielded from fellow patrons by a drawn curtain.
We're told that Brown, who earlier in the week was said to be inconsolable after his daughter's hospitalization, looked downcast and tired when he arrived but perked up at the sight of his family.
A visibly pregnant Etheridge was there, as was their 5-year-old son Cassius. The group overall looked to be trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy.
While the atmosphere was subdued, one guest was spotted carrying in a present and two birthday cakes were served at around 9:30 p.m. The family also sang "Happy Birthday" to the guest of honor.
