House fire, Chinchilla

Police are investigating a house fire which occurred in Chinchilla early this morning.

Around 4am, the house on Glasson Street was engulfed in fire and totally destroyed.

Investigations indicate that a 77-year-old woman was attempting to light a wood heater inside the house when the methylated spirits she was using caught fire, spreading to her body, resulting in life threatening injuries.

A 79-year-old man suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries while attempting to extinguish the fire.

The pair will be airlifted to a Brisbane area hospital for treatment.

Chinchilla Scenes of Crime and CIB officers are investigating the scene.
