Swati Dandekar, a Democrat running in the 1st Congressional District, received an endorsement from the National Organization for Women PAC, Dandekar's campaign announced Friday.

The feminist organization selects candidates based on their support of civil rights, LGBT and racial justice, abortion, and ending violence against women, a news release from the campaign said.

"In Congress, I will never stop fighting to protect a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, I will push for equal pay for equal work and I will demand that the marriage equality enjoyed in Iowa is shared by all Americans," Dandekar said.

Dandekar, a former state legislator from Marion, s one of five Democrats seeking the nomination in the 1st District to replace U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, a Democrat, who is vacating his seat to run for U.S. Senate.

State. Rep. Pat Murphy, who is also seeking the Democratic nomination, announced Friday that he received an endorsement from the Washington-based Progressive Change Campaign Committee.
