The Vasculitis Foundation has announced it is accepting proposals from researchers for grants of up to $100,000 for 2 years, according to a press release.

According to the announcement, preference will be given to projects with budgets of $50,000 or less to allow the foundation to support multiple projects and a broad array of approaches to understanding, diagnosing, controlling and preventing complications of vasculitis. The maximum amount of funding per year is $50,000, but some awards will be available for 2 years at a maximum of $50,000 per year.

Research categories include etiology and pathogenesis, epidemiology, immunity or inflammation related to vasculitis, vascular biology, genetics, diagnosis of disease and its subtypes, and treatment and management of vasculitis, including therapies, prevention of complications, identification of biomarkers and psychosocial outcomes.

The goal of the funding is to support research that may provide the basis for much larger, ongoing studies that may be funded by agencies such as the NIH.

The submission deadline for the 2016 funding cycle is Aug. 3, 2015. Awardees will be announced in December, with availability of funds in early 2016 to awardees, according to the Vasculitis Foundation website.

Grants made in 2015 included research focused on giant cell arteritis and a longitudinal study of morbidity and mortality in vasculitis. The program is funded by private donations, including memorials, honoraria and fundraising events.
