MILLINOCKET, Maine — Former Town Council member Bryant Davis will rejoin the panel after winning a special election held for the seat vacated by former Chairman John Davis, officials said Wednesday.
Bryant Davis, who is not related to the former chairman, received 168 votes to challenger Eric Buckingham Jr.’s 97 during Tuesday’s special election, Town Clerk Roxanne Johnson said Wednesday.
John Davis, 58, resigned in October to become Frenchville’s new town manager. The new job represented the culmination of years of work for him. He started studying government management in 2004 after he was laid off from East Millinocket’s mill. He became the council’s chairman the same year and held the position until November 2005. He was re-elected to the council in 2009.
Bryant Davis and present council Chairman Richard Angotti joined the council in November 2010 when they defeated John Dicentes in the race for two three-year council seats. Angotti collected 1,439 votes. Davis had 1,373 votes and Dicentes received 835.
Bryant Davis declined to run again for his three-year seat in November 2013 because he anticipated getting another job out of town, Town Manager Peggy Daigle said. He opted to run again for John Davis’ seat when the other job didn’t materialize, Daigle said.
Bryant Davis is due to be sworn in when the council meets at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
