Established in 1854 as the Industrial Museum of Scotland, in 1864 renamed Edinburgh Museum of Science and Art; in 1904 renamed Royal Scottish Museum. Merged in 1985 with the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (q.v.) to form the National Museum of Scotland.
