Better than simple statements that do nothing to advance the conversation, questions create room for a thought-provoking back and forth. They can also make it very clear that you're flirting while providing an easy way for the guy to respond without feeling flustered.

As I mentioned, sometimes a date's failure to ask questions is a red flag. More benignly, it may indicate the person isn't interested in you. Less benignly, it could mean you're dealing with a narcissist.

Sometimes it's as simple as that – a person wants to talk, so it makes kind sense to invite them to do so, with the right question at the right time. Sometimes showing real curiosity, about somebody's feelings or experiences or opinions, digs tunnels of intimacy between you, allows a person to be known.

There are many reasons. People may be egocentric—eager to impress others with their own thoughts, stories, and ideas (and not even think to ask questions). Perhaps they are apathetic—they don't care enough to ask, or they anticipate being bored by the answers they'd hear.
