      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Baywatch takes its source material's jiggle factor to R-rated levels, but lacks the original's campy charm -- and leaves its charming stars flailing in the shallows.

elmesiasmadara 2 Es muy buena película el humor es muy bueno me mate de risa, por más que a la gente no le guste es porque no saben lo que es bueno, el humor la trama y como se desarrolla en si es muy bueno Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review katie g Honestly the only thing that saved this were a few of the jokes, the plot made no sense felt like there was no development and honestly there was just a big build up to nothing. A good thing to watch if you want a laugh and background noise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Batwatch was Totally Sexy Hot In The Beach And I Love It And I Hope There Will Be a Sequel Of This Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently. The critics don't like it much, but I really did. I used to watch Baywatch on TV, and this movie sums it up perfectly. It's been made to allow people like me to reminisce about Baywatch on an HD screen with surround sound to enjoy. It's not meant to faithfully recreate the original, because that would be too sincere and tedious. If we watched the original series now, it would be no where near as good as it seemed in the 80's. Dwayne Johnson is perfect as the lead, and looks right at home as the beach superman lifeguard. C.J. is awesome too and is the epitomy of the Baywatch babes I like to remember. The other cast do a great job bringing an assortment of other relatable characters to life. The movie looks great on screen with lots of bright beach scenes to enjoy, and the stunts and special effects are amazing. The story is interesting enough to keep the viewers attention without needing too much thought and the comedy lightens the mood adding to the entertainment. Over all this is a great retro movie which I am happy to recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Azizkhuja T "Baywatch" (2017) reimagines the iconic television series for the big screen with a splash of contemporary humor, thrilling action sequences, and a fresh cast that breathes new life into the beloved franchise. Directed by Seth Gordon, this sun-soaked action-comedy not only delivers high-octane entertainment but also showcases a talented ensemble cast, featuring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron leading the team of lifeguards on their quest to protect the bay. Among the film's standout attributes are the performances and stunning looks of Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Priyanka Chopra, whose presence adds a significant dose of glamour and charisma to the Baywatch team. Alexandra Daddario, reprising the role of Summer Quinn, captivates with her striking blue eyes and formidable presence, bringing depth and strength to her character. Kelly Rohrbach steps into the iconic shoes of C.J. Parker, made famous by Pamela Anderson, and dazzles with her radiant beauty and effortless charm, providing both humor and heart. Priyanka Chopra, in her Hollywood debut, portrays the film's antagonist, Victoria Leeds, with a perfect blend of elegance and menace. Chopra's performance is magnetic, and her stunning looks, combined with her character's sharp wit and intelligence, make her a formidable presence on screen. Her role as the villain adds a layer of sophistication and intrigue to the movie, making it all the more engaging. "Baywatch" thrives on its ability to blend eye-catching aesthetics with action-packed sequences and comedic moments. The chemistry among the cast, coupled with the picturesque beach setting, makes for a visually stunning and entertaining film. The movie pays homage to its source material while infusing it with modern sensibilities, appealing to both fans of the original series and new audiences alike. In conclusion, "Baywatch" (2017) stands out as a fun, action-filled ride that offers more than just the scenic beauty of its setting and cast. With standout performances from Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Priyanka Chopra, the film delivers a perfect blend of humor, action, and stunning visuals. It's a summer blockbuster that proves to be as enjoyable as it is visually appealing, making it a must-watch for those seeking both thrills and laughter. Gary M. Kramer Salon.com The biggest disappointment of this feature is that it's not even so bad it's good. Nov 17, 2017 Full Review K. Austin Collins The Ringer The'Baywatch reboot is mildly diverting but altogether dull. Summer fun shouldn't feel like such a chore. Aug 10, 2017 Full Review Megan Garber The Atlantic Suffice it to say, too, that there's a lot of delight to be had in the frothy union of the Bay and the Watch, much of it coming from Johnson, who carries the whole of this movie on his epically chiseled lats. Jun 16, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Baywatch exchanges many of the soap opera-level character notes and story tangents of the TV show for gushingly over-the-top R-rated gags and blockbuster-level thrills. Oct 10, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy A movie based on a show about brain-baked lifeguards isn't going to stir memories of, say, A Man for All Seasons or The King's Speech or even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but within its own parameters, Baywatch knows the territory.
