Amid rumors that the next-generation version of Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Nexus smartphone, dubbed the Nexus 6, could be released in the second half of this year, a new report said Tuesday that the handset could get some design cues from the unannounced LG G3 smartphone.

While there is some confusion among consumers about the manufacturer of the Nexus 6, Gizmodo Germany reported that the device would not be manufactured by Lenovo (HKG:0992) as rumored earlier. Instead, the handset would be made by LG (KRX:066570), and it could be a "lightweight" version of the upcoming LG G3, which is expected to be announced sometime in June.

Some earlier reports had suggested that the LG G3 could feature a Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels, a 64-bit processor and a 16-megapixel rear camera. And, while there is no information about what "lightweight" means for the Nexus 6, the key differences between the LG G3 and the Nexus 6 are likely to be mostly related to design, and not specs, Phone Arena reported.

It is worth mentioning here that LG was the maker of Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, which were based on the LG Optimus G and the LG G2, respectively.

According to a report from AndroidGeeks, some key Nexus 6 specs could include a 5-inch screen with Full HD or 2K resolution, 3 GB of RAM, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, a 13-megapixel camera, 2,500 mAh battery and the next-generation Android version.

Citing “a source close to LG,” the AndroidGeeks report also said that though the LG G3 might be released sooner than expected, the Nexus 6 is not likely to be launched until October.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s senior vice president, also recently said that the Nexus 6 will not arrive before the third quarter of 2014.

“I can assure you, it will not be released in the first half of the year,” Pichai reportedly said last week.
