The Tourist model is one my dad has carried for over 20 years. His, though used, is still in perfect working order. I decided to purchase the same model for myself. It's thin, lightweight, and has tools I find very useful. I like having the corkscrew and bottle opener for opening bottles of wine and beer. It also has a can opener, awl, large and small blades, as well as the toothpick and tweezers in the red handle scales. This Tourist model is unobtrusive, about the same size and weight as a Bic lighter. It came hair shaving sharp and is easy to sharpen up. The steel is stainless and very corrosion resistant, so you don't really have to do much maintenance on this knife to keep it in good working order, just clean the dust out every so often and add a drop of mineral oil to the joints once in a while.

Victorinox makes high quality knives. It's amazing that you can pick any knife at random and not have to worry about getting one with substandard fit and finish. Their quality control is superb and if somehow you get a defective one you can always utilize their warranty. They're famous and used all over the world for good reason: they're low cost, quality knives that will last and last, and if you lose or break one you can easily find a replacement.

Usual high Victorinox quality and value. The Tourist is 4/5 size version of the Spartan, identical except for size. If you use the tools several times per day, go for the Spartan. If you want the same capabilities in a smaller size, go for the Tourist. It’s thinner and lighter enough to feel different in pocket.

I have been carrying pocketknives since the 80's. Everything from expensive Unobtainium-bladed wonderknives (UBW, for future reference) to cheap knockoffs of various multitools to custom dressy knives. I have had larger Victorinox knives over the years, and have mostly been happy with them. The quality of them has always been top-notch. For over a decade, I have been carrying a small single-bladed sliplock of superb quality, as it rode in the pockets of my slacks very well and did everything that life in an office required. I got dragged back into the world of IT (I thought I was out, but they pulled me back in), and I found that having a screwdriver or two handy was, well, handy. After much internal debate, I picked the Tourist. Here are some thoughts on this model and Victorinox in general:

Steel: Yes, it's soft and thin and only capable of so much. This knife is not intended to replace your UBW. It will not slice through steel plate. Zombies, Orcs, and other miscellaneous bad guys will not run in fear. It will not stop a lightsaber. 98% of what you do with a pocketknife does not require that level of metallurgical wizardry, despite what some folks may think. If you need that other 2%, pack your UBW, and keep the Tourist in your pocket to handle the other 98%. When hungry, eat; when thirsty, drink; when tired, sleep.

Locking implements and one-hand opening: No, it doesn't have any. If you need a locking blade for the 98% of pocketknife tasks, you need a remedial course on how to use a knife. For the other 2%, grab the right tool. One-hand opening is nice when you need it, but if you really find yourself needing it regularly, you probably already have a UBW or (even better) a fixed-blade knife for that.

Tools: This it does have. The small blade probably sees more use than the large one. The screwdrivers are great for their intended purposes, and the bottle opener is a real lifesaver. The awl (reamer) comes in handy, though the nail nick REALLY REALLY should be on the other side. The corkscrew is great for pulling drain covers, untying knots, any all kinds of other nifty stuff. The awl, being sharp, can damage things. For the times when that damage needs to be avoided, use the corkscrew. In a pinch, it'll even open a bottle of wine. The tweezers suck, but they're still tweezers. The toothpick sucks, but sometimes you need sensitive adjustment with a non-metallic tool. This particular model has enough tools to handle a lot (with a little ingenuity), but it's not too bulky if you're carrying it in slacks.

THE BOTTOM LINE It's small, handy, useful, and cost-effective. It won't scare away soccer moms. It would even be a great choice for a kid's first knife. They make great gifts (pocketknives are the gift that keeps on giving). It won't replace your UBW or any other hardcore implements. It will, however, complement them nicely. It would even be a suitable partner for another Victorinox model. Two Vics with a well-thought-out selection of tools is more useful and easier to pack than one huge one with every tool in the catalog (though I do have one of those on my desk...)

I bought this as an emergency tool to keep in the car. This has all the essential tools (including wine opener) at a very competitive price. (This is just a little bit more than what you would have to pay for the smallest ones).

Also, I was pleasantly surprised about the delivery speed (4 days) as I am not a Prime member.

This was a replacement for an identical knife I lost. It's my 3rd or 4th in the past 30+ years, and is a great little knife. Same good quality, includes tweezers and toothpick, and I find all the tools to be useful to me. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that I found my lost knife and it turned out to have shrunk about 1/2 inch shorter. If you're looking for a good pocket knife you won't go wrong with this or one of the other Victorinox models.

It has everything you need. Notably, a toothpick to get food or of your teeth on the go, a little knife to cut through things on the go, a corkscrew to open bottles of wine in the go, a tweezer to pick a rogue nose hair on the go, the list goes on. Basically, it's the ultimate on the go tool that fits nearly on your keychain. Plus it's small enough where you won't be overencumbered by it's presence.

I've owned Victorinox knives for 30 plus years and have never had a problem; I don't expect I will with this one. Knife arrived with blades sharp and well oiled. Screw driver blade was initially stiff by loosened up with a couple of openings. This is the first time I've had this model (Tourist) and as the name implies it seems to be the perfect traveller's knife, light, strong and versatile. The main blade length, just under 6 cm, appears to be short enough to be carried on board Canadian domestic and (non-US) international flights (best check with CATSA). A fine product at a fair price. Well packaged and arrived on the day promised.
