Punjabi Singer Nachhatar Gill Arrested For Rape

LUDHIANA – Noted Punjabisinger Nachhatar Gill has beenarrested for allegedly raping anaspiring model, Commissionerof Police Nirmal Singh said.The singer was being questionedby the CIA staff for the pasttwo days, said sources. Thepolice said the accused develpedphysical ties with the girl, promisingto help her become a topmodel and send her abroad.Gill was booked with three othersin June under Sections 376,420, 506 and 120-B of the IPCand the IT Act: 2000 for rape,fraud and criminal conspiracy.The victim, a resident ofHaibowal, told the police thatthe singer took her to a hotel inChandigarh, gave her a drinklaced with sedatives and tookpictures. The rape victim saidthat she met the singer during abeauty pageant in Jalandhar in2006 where Gill was one of thejudges. She was adjudged thefirst runners-up.She said at the function, theyexchanged mobile numbers andstarted talking to each other frequently.Soon their friendshipbecame intimate and they wouldoften meet at hotels in Phillaurand Ludhiana. The victim saidher ties with the singer turnedsour after she questioned him asto why she was not being featuredin his music albums.She also alleged that threebuilders of Ludhiana, who tookRs 20 lakh from her parents onthe promise to send her abroad,had also raped her.
