Wanted RI Man Found in Washington

As reported by Tracee Herbaugh in the April 30, 2015 edition of the Providence Journal, a wanted Rhode Island man has been found in Washington. In 2003, the man was charged with multiple counts of child molestation by the Middletown Police Department. While on bail, he fled Rhode Island and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was captured earlier this week by the FBI and will likely be extradited to Rhode Island in the near future.

The man was charged with seven (7) counts of second degree child molestation. Pursuant to Rhode Island General Laws 11-37-8.3, a person is guilty of a second degree child molestation sexual assault if he or she engages in sexual contact with another person fourteen (14) years of age or under. The penalties if convicted include imprisonment for not less than six (6) years nor more than thirty (30) years, sex offender registration, sex offender counseling and a no-contact order with the victims.

The man, a gymnastics coach, is accused of molesting students at the Middletown YMCA. He will likely face additional charges of being a fugitive from justice.
