RENTON, Wash. - A 3-year-old boy is hospitalized in serious condition after he was pulled from the water at lake in front of a Renton apartment complex, emergency officials said.

Renton Fire Department personnel said a contract worker near the Bristol Apartment complex spotted the youngster underwater and pulled him from the lake.

Medics arrived at the scene in response to 911 calls and performed CPR on the boy, who still had a heartbeat.

The little boy was then rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. A Harborview spokesperson said the boy was upgraded to serious condition and transferred to Seattle Children's Hospital.

Officials say the boy was with his mother and another child at a playground at Gene Coulon Park when he wandered away toward the apartment complex.
