"The heart is impulsive and can't be reasoned with."

Chasing the Dragon is a romantic suspense which tells the story of a young girl, who grows up to become, Mackenzie Delano. A woman that lost her childhood, her identity. Hiding and growing up with the echos of her family's traitorous ways, learning to survive, but barely living. A driven young woman, with control issues, whose trust was shattered by a past betrayal. Unable to obtain emotional intimacy because of all her secrets and her armored heart. T.K. Leigh brings us a raw and vulnerable tale, that will grip you from the first page, and shatter you from the first touch.

When a girl's night out leads to mysterious green eyed stranger invading Mackenzie's thoughts. She does nothing other than remind herself of her aim to succeed and the need to control everything in her life. Mackenzie knows this distraction could mean trouble. Yet, Tyler not only invaded her thoughts, but ensured he placed himself at her mercy. Soon enough, the ever elusive bachelor Tyler Burnham, catches Mac's attention and they start a game of words, touches and sensual desires. Both eliciting feelings from the other, they each thought buried.

Tyler Burnham, illustrious bachelor, ex- Navy Seal, currently working at his family's Security firm, and on a secret mission to obtain crucial information about Mackenzie's past and her family's hidden secrets. Infiltrating Mackenzie's life will help him obtain all the necessary information. In order to do this, Tyler must become more than a friend, he must be her turtle-dove, her lightning strike. Then and only then will Mackenzie fully trust him.

Submitting to Tyler is a feat that Mackenzie doesn't give up easily. But Tyler loves the chase and the game only proves his own feelings for his assignment. Slowly Tyler is allowing Mac to see the real him. Instead of the man he was supposed to become in order to win her over, to ultimately betray her. She was already betrayed once in her lifetime. By a man who chose to make her a case rather than look beyond and see the beautiful young woman she was. Just like Tyler was doing. And that scared him more than anything. He was battling his own feelings for her. As Tyler plays his part, he continues to mentally apologize for his own betrayal and demise.

Tyler soon realizes that this isn't a simple assignment after all. Mackenzie has been getting strange phone calls, along with apartment break ins and mysterious encounters with a man that scares her. As the plot thickens, Mackenzie's past slowly starts to twist all that she once knew as true, and rips apart her already fragile world.

While their love continues to grow, so does their enemies need for revenge. And a love built upon a mountain of lies can never survive.

Mackenzie was my lightning strike.
But lightning burns.

I loved these two characters, they rocked me to the core. Especially when Mackenzie allowed herself to become vulnerable. Opening herself up to Tyler and setting the past free. She was a dynamic character tht gradually changed as the story was revealed. It broke my heart to read this family's tale, but I felt vindicated when Tyler's love overcame his need for justice. It was a losing battle either way, he could never have done anything differently without hurting someone.

Mackenzie's wonderful flamboyant friends, really did reveal a different side of her. The diligent, control freak's characteristics changed when I was introduced to Jenna and Brayden. Such lovely creatures those two. Sweet and endearing, hardcore, protective, nurturing and truly loving.

Once again T.K. Leigh has hypnotized and spell-binded me with Chasing the Dragon. This book was such an intense, passionate, suspenseful, palpable, tangible, sensual driven book that every fiber of raw emotions was scattered throughout the story. Chasing the Dragon simply consumed me. I was so captivated with T.K. Leigh's writing and story-telling. Ms. Leigh douses her readers with such intense raw and tangible emotions that you can't helped but be consumed with these characters. If you read her Beautiful Mess Series, then you know that T.K does not give you a straightforward generic story line but instead she keeps her readers on the edge of their seats. She gives you a book where you are left holding your breath and hoping that she doesn't break your heart. And at the same, you are mesmerized with the suspense driven story line. Like her previous books, Chasing the Dragon is a book of layers that needs to be slowly exposed and revealed. Nothing is black and white in her books. As you are invested in the story-line, this book has a way of making you feel vulnerable and raw. And that's what I love about reading a TK Leigh book, she has a was of making you FEEL. Feel the hurt, the pain, the loss, the heartbreak, and most importantly feel the burning passion and love between her characters.

#ChasingTheDragon1

Chasing the Dragon is a spin-off of the Beautiful Mess Series and focuses on Tyler Burnham and Mackenzie Delano. If you must know, I LOVED Alex Burnham aka Mr. B. In my eyes, that man was simply perfect. But I got a confession to make, I absolutely love Tyler Burnham. Tyler was swoon-worthy!!!! Yes, I was swooning for him and as I read one chapter after another, Tyler completely stole my heart with his passion, heart, and his protectiveness. Okay, If you must know, my kindle is filled with so many highlights....(**FYI..Tyler will indeed make you swoon**)

So what is Chasing the Dragon all about, well its a romantic suspense story that chronicles the tale of Mackenzie Delano. Mackenzie is a woman who needs control in her life after a previous relationship deeply affected her from getting close. Well her need of control is rocked when Tyler Burnham and his green eyes invades and consumes her thoughts. Tyler somehow manage to knock her need for control when she submits to him. But what Tyler didn't expect was that he too is also consumed with Mackenzie. What turned out to be an assignment to get close to her to find out information regarding her father, Tyler soon realizes that his heart is on the line when his feelings for her is much more. So in this thrilling romantic suspense, when the lies and deception are exposed, can Mackenzie's heart trust Tyler? Or will she regret giving up control?

#ChasingTheDragon2

Chasing the Dragon is a story filled with complex characters and many layers of suspense and passion. One word to describe this book would be gripping. This book was such an intense suspense filled ride that you wouldn't want to put this book down. What I love about this book is that T.K. Leigh has a way with words to keep you amazed and awe with the way she can make a book of deception into something beautiful. The writing was just perfection and I can't wait for the Slaying the Dragon.

Stunning! Captivating! Emotional! Humorous! Sexy! I could not put down this fast-paced story of love, suspense, foul play, romance, and sexiness and I was crying when I reached the final page because I just did not want this story to end! It seemed as though I waited forever for Chasing The Dragon to finally be in my hands and I can't help but liken the wait to the intense foreplay experienced by the main characters in this story: Tyler and Mackenzie! *Swoon*

T.K. Leigh's writing only gets better and better ... like a fine wine or an aged whiskey. As a proofreader with serious O.C.D. issues, I am always prepared to feel those many "cringes" I typically find as I am perusing a story - you know the ones that cause you to stop reading where you are to go back and fix the error in your mind? Yeah. T.K.'s writing is decadence to my soul because those "cringes" simply are not there. It's beautiful, clean, precise, and flawless. Her characters are strong, passionate, and full of personality.

Chasing The Dragon took me on a roller coaster ride of all of my emotions. I found myself laughing out loud at times, wiping a tear at others, but overall I just could't get the pages to turn fast enough. When the words on my Kindle become a movie playing before my eyes, I know the author has done a fantastic job and T.K. Leigh only continues to set the bar higher and higher. She leaves me with a book hangover with every read and Chasing The Dragon was simply bookgasmic to me! After reading her stories, I have the hardest time finding another book to satisfy me the way she does. Cliffhanger? Yep! Do I love that? Yep!

Bravo, T.K. Leigh!!! Bravo! I wish I could give you ten stars for this one! A MUST READ STORY!!!

Sometimes i get lucky while reading some lesser- known books, but THIS IS NOT one of those times...

If you are looking for a strong heroine (like the cover in the second book try to show her), an alpha male, danger, action and that kind of stuff, i ll tell you right now THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU.

I have to confess that i COULDN'T finish the book, and I HATE MYSELF for it because i hate doing it but i kept repeating to myself "just a few more pages" "keep going im almost there" "almost finish" BUT OMG i just can not keep forcing myself to read more. I tried but there was one phrase said by the hero, almost at the end, that made me stop and quit reading. And i WAS almost at the end of the book, according to my ebook i was in page 1241 of 1413 pages, but i just COULDN'T get pass what he said. And i WILL tell you what he said in a little bit.

I have soo much to say about this book that i dont even know where to start so i decided that im just gonna make a list. (I will just ignore the INSTA- LOVE stuff because if i dont i will probably never finish writing about how much i hate it)

1) There might be a chance that the heroine was bipolar. Sometimes she was fierce and sometimes she was having meltdowns about the SAME subject: "Do i let him be with me or do i just give him a one night stand" sometimes she was all "you make me FEEL Tyler, i want to feel" and sometimes she was all about "i can not be with you because i dont have the time for datIng and last time i did it i got burned". I get that sometimes you have doubts before entering a relationship but the whole book she kept whining about it and then offering herself.

2) the whole book was about the hero reassuring the heroine that she was IT. That she was worth it, his lightning strike. Like 90% of the time he was doing that. Even in the middle of almost ALL the sex scenes. Sometimes they were having a normal conversation like a NORMAL couple and then she will go all "why me!?" with her attacks of low self esteem and anxiety, and you will then have him sweet talking her for about 4 pages and afterward she would said how much he change her for the better for 3 pages more, and they will switch to a normal subject like the weather or something for 2 pages before going back to the whining- sweet talking all over again.

3) i think the autor TRY to sell the hero as a protective alpha male but i just couldn't feel it with Tyler. Its like neither of them care that she was in danger, they would acknowledge the situation and he will get mad about it for about 2 seconds before getting into the sweet talking and whining stuff and the forget about the danger part (and YES, i DID have to come back to the whining stuff, just like the whole book).

4) how is it that she never told the truth about who she really was to her 2 best friends, and instead told a random guy a few days after they met? it doesn't really matter to me how horny she was, she was putting her only family in danger by doing it (and yes, she said it herself: she was horny). That was soo stupid, she just kept getting stupider by the second.

5) i have so much more to say but i just cant find myself wasting more minutes of my life with this book so i ll just gonna quote what Tyler said that made me drop my ipad in defeat, ready? Ok:

"i surrounded myself in guilt for what happened to Melanie. i wanted to feel that guilt. I needed that guilt, but im letting go of it. Everything happens for a reason. I am absolutely certain of that. If anything was different in my like, one thing at all, i never would have met you. So IF MELANIE LOSING HER LIFE was one of the dominoes that needed to fall in order for me to cross paths with you, I am SO FUCK$NG GRATEFUL FOR HER SACRIFICE"

Wth! So much for that guilt... she didn't sacrifice herself, she was murdered, and she was supposed to be the love of his life before he met the heroine JUST 7 DAYS BEFORE he said that.

Anyway, this is just my opinion, go for it if you don't mind that kind of stuff.

TK Leigh is a big name around Indie book land and with good reason obviously judging by Chasing the Dragon. Right from the very beginning you are pulled into a mystifying web of intrigue, deceit and danger that takes us from the past into the present where our main protagonist Mackenzie is simply going through the motions in her very well structured and rigid life of all work and no play, or at least a little uncomplicated no-strings play that in no way detracts from her character’s work ethic. Mackenzie without realising it has constructed a self-imposed wall of isolation after having been betrayed in the past, she is slow to trust but very quick to like as a character. Her loyalty and dedication are commendable and the way TK Leigh’s words has created her personality is just so enjoyable to read; even more so is the complicated and chaotic personality of Tyler, the man you know from the beginning is hiding some secrets of his own and is going to blow up the storyline with his own agendas. Tyler is complex and multi-faceted but his entanglement with Mackenzie has its own special variety of problems and complications and right from the start you just want the best for these two diverse and intelligent characters.

‘“You CANNOT FALL for her,” I said under my breath. “This is a job, nothing more.” I ran my hands over my face a I sat on the couch in Mackenzie’s living room, trying to give myself a pep talk. My heart was a traitor. It had shut itself in for years, not feeling anything. Not compassion. Not admiration. Certainly not love. But now it was beating again. Worse, it was feeling again. With one kiss Mackenzie had restarted it, had blasted through the fortress I had built around it.’

TK Leigh is the mistress of suspense here and with the inclusion of some incredibly dramatic and effective conspiracies interwoven with a marvellous and inspiring love story, Chasing the Dragon is a stellar piece of work. You care about the characters, they have superb depth and heart even the supporting characters add more than expected to the overall enjoyment. The storyline is top-notch entertainment with Leigh writing the fragility of Mackenzie’s and Tyler’s fledgling romance with incredible talent. It was hot and steamy when it needed to be and tender and serious when it was warranted, everything was perfectly balanced in my eyes, I just had to knock off a half star for that horrendous cliffhanger because now my impatient bum has to wait for the next book to see what happens next. Not cool TK Leigh, not cool at all.

Just when I think T.K Leigh can't top her last book, she comes back and surprises me. This one is amazing. From the first page until the last, it'll have you on the edge of your seat. The love, loss, heartache... All of it culminates at the end. This book just goes to show you that sometimes a job is more than a job.

T.K. LEIGH WILL SURELY SEAR THROUGH YOUR HEART & SOUL HOT
WITH THIS HOT 5-STAR ROMANTIC SUSPENSE THRILLER!

“Chasing The Dragon: /slang/ The frenzied drive to recreate that first high,
that first taste of addicting euphoria and bliss.”

Serafina Galloway is ten years old when she and her mother left their home in the middle of the night with one bag in tow from Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, changing their identities and lives forever. Everything she has known was left in the dark, all she has been told is that her father, a high-ranking army officer, is in trouble and they must leave for now.

Sixteen years have now passed, Serafina is now Mackenzie Delano a graduate from Texas A&M, also finished graduate school, and is fixing to start her own business in her new home town of South Padre Island, Texas before the age of thirty years old. Mackenzie lives her life with a plan and schedule. As a super achiever, Mackenzie really has not time for men in her life at this time – it is not on the schedule for a few years. She has only had one long-term boyfriend in college named Charlie, an army analyst, who broke her heart.

Makenzie has two best friends she meet in college and the only friends she truly trusts – Jenna and Brayden. They all live in South Padre Island and Jenna is helping Mackenzie open restaurant when they decide to meet at the bar for Friday drinks. While Mackenzie is waiting at the bar to meet Jenna, she meets Tyler Burnham.

"The only way to make sure that didn't happen again was to stop trusting, so that's what I did. I stopped trusting everyone, even myself, because I never know when my own instincts will falter again."

Tyler Burnham is panty-melting beautiful dark messy hair with sun kissed tips, deep emerald green eyes, and tight body in all the right places. Tyler has a job to do and is determined to break down Mackenzie's defenses, but she is determined to keep her wall up or can she?

"I had barely spent five minutes with him, but there was something about his uninterested demeanor that fascinated me. He was confident and sure, unmoved by my tried-and-true diversion techniques to get a guy to leave me alone."

Tyler's work is his life and right now, he is on a mission to track a potential criminal, but for now, his job is Mackenzie – his asset. Tyler’s plan is to seduce Mackenzie for some information for his mission, what Tyler never planned for was crossing the lines of business and personal feelings.

"It had become my job to slowly ingrain myself into her thoughts, her dreams, her fantasies. Then I would be able to possess her, body, and soul, making her forget her reasons for not wanting to date, making her trust me with her deepest and darkest secrets. It was the only way to succeed in this mission."

When Mackenzie and Tyler collide, all plans and schedules cannot keep the explosive chemistry the two apart.

"I should warn you, Mackenzie," he murmured "When I'm through with you, you will be fully sated, unable to stand..."
"Stand what?" I whimpered, closing my eyes. I was lost in the sensation of Tyler's body looming over mine.
"That's it. You won't be able to stand... or walk."

Shortly after Mackenzie opens her restaurant, she starts to receive strange calls at her home. Her ex-boyfriend comes back after he has been gone for quite some time. TRUST has always been difficult for Mackenzie, but as she and Tyler start to shed their walls – will they be able to trust each other? There is DANGER for Mackenzie.

"Now that I had met her, had looked into her brilliant eyes, had felt her body writhe in response to my words, it wasn't just an abstract job anymore. It was real. She was real. A real person with real feelings. I began to question whether I could follow through with my task of earning and then betraying her trust. Whether I'd be able to walk away from the woman whose smile, eyes, and laugh had crept their way into my dreams at night."

Author T.K. Leigh’s romance novel, CHASING THE DRAGON, is the first novel in the Deception Duet series, so do frail when you discover the novel ends with a cliffhanger because T.K. Leigh will not have us to waiting too long to find out what happens. I was unable to put the book down, because my emotions were on a twisted roller coaster with many turns and feelings of DARKNESS, LAUGHTER, COMPASSION, SADNESS, JOY, ANGER, TRAGEDY, DISTRUST, DANGER, FRIENDSHIP, and LOVE.

“Love sometimes has its own way of sneaking into your heart…”

I rate T.K. Leigh’s novel in the Deception Duet Series, CHASING THE DRAGON - 5 AMAZING STARS!

Chasing the Dragon. Trying to recreate the feeling of that first high every time.

Chasing the dragon to find Tyler Burn is something I would gladly do over and over again. He is absolutely delicious and I can see why even though he warned Mackenzie to stay away, she couldn't help but fall in love with him. Passionate is only one of the words to describe Tyler Burnham. He is utter perfection. Ok...flawed...but perfect nonetheless.

Physically he is beyond beautiful. Dark messy hair, lighter on the ends from being out in the sun, deep green eyes that you can stare into for days and a body that is fit and muscled in all the right places. He looks better than any man should be allowed to look.

Chasing the Dragon begins when young Serafina Galloway is ten years old. She and her mother are on the run. Serafina's father, a highly ranked army officer is in trouble. He's in enough trouble that Serafina and her mother have to leave their home, change their identities and forget everything they've ever known.

Fast forward sixteen years. Serafina is now Mackenzie Delano. She is a super over achiever, type A personality. She runs her life in a very regimented manner. Makenzie has no time for men and hasn't really had any special in her life since her college boyfriend Charlie, an army analyst broke her heart.

Mackenzie has two amazing friends in her life. Brayden and Jenna are the two people closest to Mackenzie, they met in college and have been close ever since. They've knew her before she turned into the schedule making woman she is today. She and Jenna are opening up a restaurant in South Padre Island where they all live.

But the opening of her restaurant isn't the only risky business Mackenzie has going on in her life. Recently, she's been getting some very scary phone calls. Phone calls where she receives a frightening message and then hears the clicks of a gun. Add to that an amazingly hot stranger trying to get to know her and you have a book with everything.

Chasing the Dragon is sexy, romantic and suspenseful. Tyler Burnham may even have his brother beat in the book boyfriend department. I especially loved when you think you know exactly what's happening, T.K. Leigh throws you a curve ball and holy plot twist, you're going in a totally different direction.

You'll find out quickly, Tyler isn't exactly being honest with Mackenzie. Sure she's gorgeous and incredibly desirable, but Tyler's motives for seducing Mackenzie are less than honorable. When he thinks to himself about how he's going to break her heart, you clearly know everything is not what it seems.

At first the ever aloof Mackenzie tries to ignore Tyler, but of course he gets under her skin and she lets him in. He totally pours that Burnham charm on. Telling her how good they would be together, trying to convince her he's all in and she needs to be too. Mackenzie can't deny their intense physical attraction and the sexual tension between them. Tyler finally gets her to promise him one night. One night and then either they go their separate ways, or they're all in.

Well what do you think happens? The build up until their one night is ridiculously hot and steamy. What happens between them has Mackenzie begging Tyler not to wait until Friday night (the agreed upon night for their encounter). I mean literally begging. If making out is that good with Tyler, you know the sex is like BOOM!!!

Don't forget, in addition to their love story, Mackenzie is in danger. The threatening phone calls are only part of the problem. Someone keeps breaking into her condo and even Tyler a security expert can't figure out who keeps getting in.

Did I forget to mention, the ex-boyfriend Charlie comes back into the picture? Good Lord his story just gets you deeper into the deception that has been Mackenzie's whole life.

That being said Chasing the Dragon is an amazing read. Tyler Burnham is uber yummy and there's enough mystery and suspense to keep you turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. Oh, one more thing. Chasing the Dragon ends in a cliff hanger and it's gigantic. I am super stoked for part two of this series. T.K. Leigh did not disappoint with this book. A five lip smack review for Chasing the Dragon and for that sexy specimen of a man Tyler Burnham.

WOW! What a ride! T.K. Leigh brings so much passion and intensity into her stories. Her words have a way of hypnotizing me, holding me captive until the very end. Every single time I finish a novel from this author, I am left speechless, at a loss for words, with my emotions all over the place, completely, utterly, and wonderfully spent. As a huge fan of Ms. Leigh's BEAUTIFUL MESS series, I just knew she would bring her 'A Game' in this new spin-off series. It has got to be so hard when starting a new series after such a successful one. You have such high expectations to live up to. I'm here to tell you the expectations were surpassed in CHASING THE DRAGON. Once you get a taste of Tyler Burnham, there is no going back. Step aside Alexander Burnham. It is Tyler Burnham's time to shine.

"I want to fill your vacant heart with whatever you need...lust, love, reverence. You name it and I'll give it to you."

I mean...COME ON! Total SWOON-WORTHY is he not?! CHASING THE DRAGON is about a woman who not just craves, but requires control. It's about a man who will do what it takes to knock her off her axis and give up that control. She was supposed to be an assignment, nothing more. But when she ends up surrendering to him, giving up her control, and carefully placing it in his hands, the lines begin to blur, and walls start to crumble. How far will Tyler go to get the answers he needs from the woman who is digging her way into his heart and soul? Lies and deception can break a human being, especially one as vulnerable as Mackenzie Delano. Someone already broke her heart a long time ago. Will she be able to survive another blow?

Both of the main characters were amazing. T.K. Leigh is a master at creating these beautiful, complex, and strong heroes and heroines, and Mackenzie and Tyler are no exception. Mackenzie is a strong, independent, woman who is living her dream. Even with all of the heartache of the past, she is not looking to break anytime soon. Tyler Burnham is a gorgeous, successful, charming man. Tyler pushes Mackenzie, takes her out of her element, makes her stable life a little less stable. The control that Mackenzie covets is easily taken away by the man with the hypnotizing green eyes. He has her going off schedule and she no longer had the sudden urge to follow routine. She finally felt free.

"Truth or dare,"

Deception. It has the power to destroy everything, and for Tyler Burnham, it has the ability to take away his lightning strike.

Oh, all the feels, the suspense, the passion! It's overwhelming. It's intense. It's beautiful. I believe T.K. Leigh has another Bestseller on her hands. CHASING THE DRAGON is a definite must read that will leave you stunned and craving so much more. It's an incredibly engaging story that is sure to leave you breathless.

WTF did I just read? T.K., you have written a complete mind fuck, and I loved it!

So Alexander’s brother, Tyler is our main man in this book. They have been asked to find someone. Easiest way? Seduce the one who knows where he is and get her to spill his location.

Mackenzie has a secret. She knows where he is, but trusts no one. When Tyler sweeps into her life, she feels a connection to him she has never felt with anyone before.

Add in a crazy ex (who I still can’t decide if I like/trust him), crazy phone calls, break-ins and Tyler’s lies, and you have the recipe for a complete and utter mind fuck like no other.

I loved the characters. And I am still not sure who the bad guy is, so I am anxiously awaiting book two. I honestly think the only reason I didn’t throw my Kindle at the end was because TK apologized. Seriously, she did! She knew she was messing with us, and she liked it. But that’s okay, I think you all will too! ~ Devlynn, 5 stars

~~~
Chasing the Dragon by T.K. Leigh was complex, mysterious and sexy.
Mackenzie Delano is a twenty-something on the brink of reaching her dream of opening her own restaurant when Tyler Burnham walks into her life. Nothing is ever as it seems with the Burnham boys, as we know from the Beautiful Mess series, and that hasn’t changed with Tyler. He’s a hot, hunky, somewhat mysterious Boston boy, who’s hanging out in South Padre Island where he meets Mackenzie. From this point forward her world is forever changed.
Feelings are brought back from the depths of being hidden away, Mackenzie and Tyler find love, but things aren’t always what they seem.
I love that TK Leigh doesn’t write a simple, straightforward romantic book. True to form, her book has mystery, intrigue, romance, hot sex and complex characters. The supporting characters are well developed, funny and loving. I would have given it a five, except for the cliffy at the end… but alas, now I’m on pins and needles waiting to see what happens next! ~ Heather, 4 stars
There is a new and fabulous Mr. B in town! So, how does one come with the best words to express a brilliantly written book other than LOVED LOVED LOVED it?! Not sure, as it physically hurt to click a mere 5 stars because it was 5 stars for just the beginning!
MacKenzie Delano is a total control freak due to a traumatic event in her freshman year in college. She lives her adult life by micro managing every minute of every day and there's no room on her calendar for love. Tyler Burnham is going through life guarding his heart. He plans to never feel helpless about a woman again. It starts to change when a case falls in his lap that has him dealing with a feisty, closed off woman. The day that Tyler and Mack meet is like the finale of a fireworks display.
Epic, emotional, thrilling, humorous, and SEXY SEXY SEXY! So addicting, a tornado on the ground near me couldn't have made me put it down. I have loved every book T.K Leigh has ever written, would rate her grocery list 5 stars, but she has outdone herself in Chasing the Dragon. I lost my heart to Tyler Burnham utterly and completely, and not sure if anyone will ever replace him! The book hangover I was left with makes me tear up every time I think about the fact that I finished the last page. Book 2 can not come soon enough! I will end with this......READ THIS BOOK AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!
Chasing the Dragon is T.K. Leigh's best book yet---an explosive masterpiece full of danger, deception, darkness, and another devastatingly hot Burnham that you will want to chase with lightning speed until the very end. It's a serious book wrapped in a sexy package. This oh-so-descriptive and impactful story is like watching a masterful mix of a movie that's an all-in-one adventure, romance, mystery, and thriller. I was filled with angst, happiness, sadness, fear, and anger. The writing is sophisticated yet sexy. The book burns right into your heart and soul. Pure addiction.
Watch out Alexander---there's a new Burnham in town! Little brother, Tyler, is panty-melting hot, swoon-worthy, and woos with heart-warming and masterful moves.
Mackenzie 'Mack' Delano is dark-haired and dark-eyed, beautiful, and a successful business owner of one of the hottest bars in town. Due to a troubled childhood and past, Mack lives and breathes control. She needs control to function every day, every minute. Her life is planned by the hour. Friends and outings are scheduled like medical appointments. Control is her salvation. Control was Mack's life until a curveball was thrown her way in the form of the hottest man candy ever: tall, muscular, green-eyed, brown-haired, and mysterious Tyler Burnham.
"I had barely spent five minutes with him, but there was something about his uninterested demeanor that fascinated me. He was confident and sure, unmoved by my tried-and-true diversion techniques to get a guy to leave me alone."
Tyler is a panty-melting mystery man whose job is Mack. She is his asset. He is supposed to get to know Mack and woo her as needed to accomplish the mission to nail a potential criminal. Be seductive. Act like he cares so he can get the information he wants. Nothing more. Though sometimes lines get blurred between business and pleasure.
"It had become my job to slowly ingrain myself into her thoughts, her dreams, her fantasies. Then I would be able to possess her, body, and soul, making her forget her reasons for not wanting to date, making her trust me with her deepest and darkest secrets. It was the only way to succeed in this mission."
The chemistry between Mack and Tyler is insta-hot---nearly combustible---and not part of Mack's controlled life or plans.
"I should warn you, Mackenzie. When I'm through with you, you'll be fully sated, unable to stand...or walk."
Maybe a one-night stand is what she needs to get the alluring alpha out of her mind once in for all. Nothing more. One night with Mr. Mystery will break her sexual drought spell and prove that it's nothing but a cure for all the sexual tension between them. Afterwards, she can focus on her career without him consuming her mind and gaining entry into her heart.
"I had been fighting the attraction, but the more time I spent with him, the harder it was becoming. Soon, I feared I would no longer be able to resist succumbing to the voice in my head screaming at me to finally take a risk."
Both Mack and Tyler wear masks that both begin to unravel. Trust is wavering. Lives are at stake. Danger is lurking everywhere.
"Now that I had met her, had looked into her brilliant eyes, had felt her body writhe in response to my words, it wasn't just an abstract job anymore. It was real. She was real. A real person with real feelings. I began to question whether I could follow through with my task of earning and then betraying her trust. Whether I'd be able to walk away from the woman whose smile, eyes, and laugh had crept their way into my dreams at night."
I can't wait for the sequel to Chasing the Dragon, my new favorite of T.K. Leigh's brilliant books.
I was honored by receiving an ARC of this most FABULOUS book in exchange for my honest review.... so here it goes...
T.k. Leigh has outdone herself with this one! There is not one page of this book that I didn't like. Well, there were some pages, but that's just because of what was happening in the story and I didn't like what I could feel was going to be a major cliff hanger at the end!!!
The chemistry between Tyler Burnham and Mackenzie Delano is palpable. You can feel it oozing off the pages as you read. This book picks up 6 years after the end of Gorgeous Chaos (Book 3 in A Beautiful Mess Series) and this is Tyler's story. Do you need to have read the Beautiful Mess books to appreciate this one? No you don't, this book will flow a little better for you if you do, but why wouldn't you want to read those 3 amazing books?
Tyler is sent to down to South Padre Island in Texas to work an "asset" as she's called for the high profile security company that Tyler's brother Alexander is head of. Tyler's assignment is to get "close" to the "asset", the very lovely but guarded Mackenzie Delano to get information on someone they suspect Mackenzie knows all about. When working an "asset" it is important to stay detached and objective about that person, but you can feel the pull between both of them and soon the lines are blurred and crossed.
As I read page after page, I was REALLY hoping Mackenzie would open herself up again and let Tyler in, but more importantly, I wanted Tyler to get some relief from a tragedy that scarred him 6 years ago, making him just an observer of life moving around him rather than truly living it. And boy did I get my wish!! Along the way to their "fall", we meet Kenzie's two BFF's Jenna and Brayden and they are equally fabulous in their own way and add so much to the story. I fell in love with them and wished they were my BFF's!
As you might expect, there are things that lead up to the end of the book that are so pivotal to the story and I refuse to give you any spoilers because I really hate it when a reviewer does that. I can tell you that at about 55% into the book we get where the title comes from and I love how T.K. built it into the story in a different way than I always thought about "Chasing The Dragon" LOL.
Some of my favorite lines in the book are "You think you'll ruin me for all men who come after you? Well, I'll tell you something Mr. Burnham, once you get a taste of me, nothing will ever be the same again. Food will lose its appeal. Your world will be devoid of color. And you'll never be able to look at another woman without seeing my pink lips." Kenzie has a way of pulling in Tyler and they both can feel it and it scares them to death. Do they continue to take the leap? Does Tyler let his true feelings win over what he's supposed to be doing - getting important information out of the "asset"? Does Kenzie fall as hard and fast for Tyler like she thinks he's falling for her? I won't tell you the answers to these and oh so many other questions, because you MUST READ THIS BOOK!!!
Mackenzie.
She craved control, a micro manager with a mental timetable for everything in her life. A relationship was the farthest thing from her mind, not a priority in her well-planned life. She was looking for her "turtledove," the person she would be completely devoted to and spend the rest of her life with.
Tyler.
He had similar goals, to focus on his job and avoid falling in love. But his biggest goal was to invade her thoughts, dreams and fantasies, but not for personal reasons. It was his job to make the elusive Mackenzie Delano to trust him with her deepest and darkest secrets. His task was to earn and betray her trust.
The story was so much more than what the blurb hinted at. The hero and heroine had a whole lot of back story that made their story complicated and interesting. Key elements of their backgrounds were revealed at appropriate times and I was hooked to find out more.
What happens when she finally meet someone who made her want to throw all her controlling tendencies out the window? When the one woman he wasn’t supposed to fall for was the only one who knew how to work her way into his cold heart? What happens when he meet someone who made him question if he can still do his mission without losing his heart in the process? When she finally realized love had found a way to sneak into her hardened heart?
How do you stop yourself from falling for someone you needed to betray in the end?
What will you do when you discover that the man who was planning to break you in the end was also slowly rebuilding your dismantled life?
The book is a perfect combination of romance, heartbreaks, mystery, suspense, passion and heartwarming moments that kept me spellbound. There was no way I could talk about the story or the background of the characters without resulting in spoilers. Just know that I was on the edge of my seat and breaking out in cold sweat while reading this book. On top of that, there was a myriad of emotions running through my mind: falling for Tyler, hurting for both him and Mac, swooning because of those sweet moments between them, and enjoying those hot scenes between the couple.
The side characters also made an impact that couldn't be ignored. Brayden and Jenna who made up the triumvirate of BFFs with Mac. The three of them together were hilarious but all hearts. I would like to read about Jenna and her husband Richard's story. With just one scene, the author was able to pique my curiosity and draw my interest on this couple with a twenty-five years age difference but so much in love.
Chasing the Dragon would make you feel like chasing your own happily ever after. I've never felt so dedicated in wishing for a happy ending for a couple. I wanted to solve all their problems and jump through all the hurdles for them just so I can stop holding my breath. Tyler and Mackenzie were two beautiful people, inside and out, who deserved rainbows and unicorns and more.
Excited to read book two!
So we meet a new Burnham brother... Tyler. Dark. Mysterious. Deceiver. This book is NOT a continuation of The Beautiful Mess Series. It's a new series of its own. So if you are looking for more Alexander, you aren't going to get that. Although he does have cameo appearances...
Deception. There is a lot of that in this book. Everything is upside-down, sideways... Nothing is clear in this story. Be prepared to be confused and guessing all of the way through. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is as it seems. You don't know who the bad guys are. You don't know who the good guys are. In fact, you don't know if there really is a difference.
This book is just as complex as it is sexy. Tyler's mission isn't to fall for Mackenzie; it's to find out where her father is. To bring him to justice. Getting the information he needs isn't so easy once he has his eye on his target. Beautiful. Controlling. Successful. Driven. She is everything he never knew he was missing.
Mackenzie has maintained her control on her life for years. Nothing can stop her from achieving her dreams. Not even this hot stranger who has now placed himself in her life. Not knowing who to trust, with her ex stalking her, her father in hiding. Things she has always known to be true may not be truth after all.
This book is a rollercoaster of a story that has all kinds of twists and turns. Hang on tight! You will go for a thrilling ride in this book!
Chasing The Dragon: /slang/The frenzied drive to recreate that first high, that first taste of addicting euphoria and bliss.
Mmmmm yes the Burnham Boys are back and there is no better high to chase then the high of chasing a Burnham. Tyler is fabulous. He is cut from the same alpha male cloth as his brother, but he is a bit softer around the edges, making him move up as my new favorite “Mr. B” (sorry Alex).
“My mother always told me falling in love is a lot like jumping from an airplane without a parachute. There’s no stopping it once you’ve taken that first step.”
I am all in, Tyler.
You make it easy to love. I can see how a whirlwind romance is completely possible with you around.In Mackenzie’s words; “swoon”.
T.K. does a good job of creating a thunderous love story between Mackenzie and Tyler from their first meeting until… Yes well this does end with a cliffhanger, but it is done well. It left me thinking where and when she will pick up with the next book. There was a lot moving parts going on and that is another thing I enjoy about T.K.’s stories, she always has multiple layers going on. You are always wondering what is going to happen, always on alert wondering who did what, who is behind what and when it will all come to a head. I love it.
The thunder is coming…I cannot wait for the next lightning strike!
The long awaited return of the Burnham men does not disappoint.
I bought a copy for myself even though I was initially given an ARC to review.
The focus is on the youngest Burnham, Tyler. He has his own demons to overcome. He is tasked, through the family security company, to get close to Mackenzie Delano. Big brother, Alexander, shows a less than appealing side to his character.
Mackenzie is a woman with a past missing its first ten years. She is used to being in control. Everything she does, every minute, every hour, every day, week, month and year is allocated time according to her calendar. There are no blocks spare for extra curricular events...particularly not relationships.
She has been hurt badly before and has no intention of letting anyone get close enough to hurt her again.
T. K. Leigh is a writer who has grown with every book. Her characters have flaws, her settings exist. Her narrative flows. The quality of her writing is impeccable.
As this is the first of two books there is a bit of a cliffhanger. It is easy to see it coming so it is no surprise...more a gentle slope than a drop off a cliff.
Even so, book two can't come soon enough for me.
I was so excited to get my hands on this book!
Mackenzie Delano is a stickler for control. She has everything planned out. Tyler Burnham, the brother of Alexander Burnham, is working a case for his brother. When the two meet, sparks begin to fly.
Chasing The Dragon is a must read for any fan of Romantic Suspense novels. T.K. Leigh has done it again with her latest novel. All of the characters were superbly developed and full of such personality. With every book that I read by Leigh, I just get more and more enthralled with her writing.
From the first page to the last page, she had me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the plot was going to play out. I laughed, I cried and at times I even threw my hands in the air and said "what is she thinking?" But I still could not put the book down. And, of course there was the cliffhanger. I couldn't believe the events in the last couple of chapters.
Leigh has definitely got another Bestseller on her hands and I can't wait to read more about Tyler and Mackenzie. I can only wait anxiously to "Swoon"!
I was a fan of T.K. Leigh Beautiful Mess series so reading its spin-off was a no brainer. Chasing the Dragon is romantic suspense at its best, I simply could not put this book down.
We get to meet the youngest Burnham brother, Tyler. He is working an assignement for his security company, to uncover the hiding place of a terrorist. When he befriends Mackenzie Delano, she is just an "asset" he intends to deceive to obtain the information he needs. He will get close to her and betray her. But things are not going according to his plan at all. He is captivated by Mackenzie and falls in love with her. The lines become blurred and his sense of guilt is overwhelming.
Mackenzie has a secret life and has been deeply traumatized by the loss of her parents and betrayal. She is mysterious and complex, which to be honest made it a bit difficult to connect with her character.
The suspense was riveting. I have no idea who the villain is in this amazing story, and we are left with many unanswered questions at the end of this book.
2.5 stars. Some authors have formulas. Which is fine. But this book was basically the same plot as the other series with the brother of the MC. It was dragged out way too long. Especially because I knew what was coming. This did not need to be two books. I know that before even reading the second book.
It was also very unrealistic. The gay best friend was so over the top stereotypical gay best friend that it was annoying.
And who opens a business and then doesn't work at that business? Someone whose business is going to fail. That's who!
There isn't a TK Leigh book that will not give you the feels and this one is no exception. Here we have complex layers, duplicity and undeniable attraction with moving on happening. The exquisite and intricate way this book is written has the layers slowly revealed and many still hidden as we navigate through the danger of the job Tyler is on and the attraction he and Mackenzie have for one another. Tyler Burnham is finally getting his time to shine. And what a way to begin. In the Beautiful mess series Tyler is introduced and such a tragic moment happens that you fear he will not recover. Now years later he emerges and is not the man he once was. We see glimpses of the old sweet lovable Tyler when he is interacting with the equally mysterious Mackenzie but they don't emerge to much. She brings out the best in him and Tyler begins to heal. He starts to love. But this love is a wrinkle. A unexpected beautiful wrinkle and a complication. For both Tyler and Mackenzie.
Tyler is there to get information from Mackenzie and not to heal. He is to use her and leave. But he can't..The true wonderful amazing Tyler starts to be seen again. Don't get me wrong it isn't that the new Tyler isn't that it's just that the new Tyler is a walled mask. Trying to be impervious to everything and everyone. He hides behind the idea of work. But this job is complicated. The human emotions and the complexity of the job take a role in Tyler's decision making process. Eli helps as well. Eli the best friend of Tyler who helps Tyler and supports him in ways that even his brother cannot. Alex is here as well but I am not to thrilled with him. His relationship with Tyler is rocky since we last saw him and in this book we see a not so good side to him. At the end when he said what he said I truly wanted to smack him upside the head. He forgets what he and Oliva went through. He forgets what it means to put yourself out there and see that there is more to things than may meet the eye. The layers of duplicity that the job Alex and his brother are working is there and Alex doesn't see them. Eli and Tyler do but not Alex.
Mackenzie is the target of Alex and Tyler. She is stubborn pigheaded and way too OCD. She has secrets from her friends and herself. She opens up with Tyler and he with her. They are perfect for each other. Neither is what they seem. both less trusting and willing to take a chance on each other. That doesn't mean the past isn't relevant and play a part in this book. It plays a huge part and as Tyler begins to unravel Mackenzies and sees its path in this job it is confusing him. He sees that everything isn't as it seems especially as her life is put more and more in danger.
Tyler is the epitome of swoonworthy and even if Mackenzie doesn't believe this trustworthy. He knows that the job he is on doesn't add up, he knows he will get burned but he still follows through with Mackenzie and this just may be what costs him everything.
A complex book filled with emotion, intrique, layers of duplicity and pasts that intertwine to create more mystery and danger as Tyler and Mackenzie discover themselves again and find themselves willing to open up for each other. The ending will kill you and have you emotionally spent as the whole book is a emotional rollar coaster that will have you smile, laugh and cry. I only ask that Ms. Leigh doesn't do any more to Tyler. The poor guy has been through so so much and so deserves happiness..He deserves to feel love and happiness again and not stay in the lonely but to chase the dragon that is a home with Mackenzie.
ARC received for an honest review
Move over Alexander Burnham - it is time for another Mr Burnham to shine!
This series focuses on the youngest Burnham sibling, Tyler. And what focus it is!
After events in the past, Tyler has closed himself off from love. Love em and leave em, that has been as far as his relationships have gone for a lot of years.
Until Mackenzie.
Mackenzie has demons of her own that she has pushed to the side but never tried to overcome.
There is an intensity between Tyler and Mackenzie. There is such strong attraction between the pair, but there is something more too.
Both have secrets from each other, and we all know how that always works out!
And when I got to the end of Chasing the Dragon, I knew that it was going to end in some kind of way like it did. There was no other way that this first part of the duet could end. I wanted to yell at Tyler and Mackenzie to stop what they were doing, knowing where things were heading.
T.K Leigh pulled me into this story, and I was dragged kicking and screaming out of it! I was captivated, needing to know more and more about our lovelies. There is a bit of a mystery woven into our story that will keep you on your toes. Who is the good guy, who is the bad?
Ms Leigh took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed out loud at times, wanted to cry at others. The flow and pace of the story was just right. Though set over the period of only a couple of weeks, nothing felt rushed. The progression of the relationship felt natural (I am not a fan of the insta-love relationships we get in so many books).
I loved Mackenzie's best friends - I think we all need friends like them in our lives.
We were left on a bit of a cliffhanger (which Ms Leigh does apologise for at the end of the book), and yes I am impatient to find out what happens to Tyler and Mackenzie, but the wait (which is not going to be toooo long) is well worth the anticipation - delayed gratification and all that shiz!
OMG can this book be any better , so many more stars I would give !! TK is a talented author no doubt there !! I couldn't put this book down I was trying to pay bills while reading , who knows how much money I sent and to who but I just had to keep reading !!
As much as I loved Alexander , Mr. Burnham , the original !! I have to say Tyler is just AMAZING !! Regardless of what he started out attempting to do IDC he is just amazing and I swear that cliffy , OMG there better be a light at the end of the tunnel for him !! Team Tyler all the way !! Alexander was kind of a mood killer in this book , all serious and focussed on work , geez !! It was nice to get a little peek at Olivia and Melanie as well !!
Mackenzie , her story starts in another world , a life left behind , just random memories of family that no longer exists and friends , Damien. I swear I was waiting for Damien the WHOLE TIME , I was ready for him to appear and come back and just ya I have a thing for childhood besties and I really need to find Damien now !! Her story is heartbreaking , mysterious , dangerous and thrilling. Mackenzie has become a woman that needs control in all aspects of life. She schedules everything and if you are not in her plan or on her calendar good luck to you !! Enter Tyler Burnham , the hot mysterious stranger that won't give up. Somehow he manages to do the unthinkable and when Mackenzie can no longer fight it their connection is magnetic. I love them , they made me laugh , SWOON , sweat , cry and I seriously could not get enough. Everyone has secrets and I don't know who has bigger ones Tyler or Mackenzie. Mackenzie may just find herself in another situation where she is being sought out for the one thing she has that everyone wants. Regardless no matter how he tries to keep her safe and how much he confesses his honest feelings Tyler may just be the one to break her the final time.
This is another one of those books that I just cannot find the words to do it justice. If you love TK you will read this and love it , if she is new to you then I can bet you will read this and love it and read all her other books too !! The emotions are so real and the storyline is just fantastic and unlike others. I cannot wait for more and I will be Chasing The Dragon until then.........
With every T.K. Leigh book, you know you're about to be taken on one wild and crazy mind boggling ride and Chasing the Dragon does not disappoint!
I was easily drawn into the story of Mackenzie and Tyler and the suspense and secrets that surrounded Mackenzie. I knew once hearing her back story with her ex, that the situation with Tyler wasn't going to fair well for either one of them.
This book is full of secrets, twists and turns, and not knowing who the heck you can trust in the character list. I was second guessing everyone in this book and am still not sure who can be trusted, who's telling the truth, and who actually truly cares about Mackenzie. This story is all kinds of crazy and full of suspense, and it kept me on my toes the entire time I was reading it.
The build up to "Friday night" for Mackenzie and Tyler was HOT! I loved the teasing, and how Tyler treated Mackenzie, as well as watching Mackenzie slowly come out of the protective shell she's built around herself over the past 8 years. Getting to see her open up to Tyler, and share more of her past was awesome, as we got to learn more as Tyler did about the mysterious Mackenzie.
I loved the chemistry between Tyler and Mackenzie, it was HOT HOT HOT. Their relationship moves very fast and I was a little put off by the "insta-love" way their relationship went. Especially with all the hurdles in front of them and the pasts they both had. But I do love these two together and am anxiously awaiting the second book in this duet to see how these two end up.
This book does end with some what of a cliff hanger that will have you stalking T.K. Leigh to know when the second and final part of this book comes out. I need to know the answers to so many questions and can't wait till Slaying the Dragon is here.
Chasing the Dragon is an amazing book that will have you on the edge of your seat, swooning over Tyler Burnham, and biting your finger nails trying to figure out who's really who they say they are. If you loved the A Beautiful Mess series by T.K. Leigh you will definitely enjoy Chasing the Dragon and getting to know the younger Burnham brother. Definitely pick up your copy of Chasing the Dragon today and fall in love with Mackenzie and Tyler!
My Rating:
4.5
Favorite Quotes:
“At first, I had been hesitant to take on a male roommate, but once I realized we both shared the same taste in men, my stress level decreased.”
“I wished I could have recorded his voice murmuring those endearing words to me so I could replay them over and over again when I needed to feel something I didn’t think I would ever feel again.”
“Yup. This is hot. I’m officially done for. Any woman who looks as equally enchanting in a dress as she does in a pair of combat boots is a keeper in my book.”
“I’d rather you break my heart than to never have felt it beat to begin with.”
My Review:
I am sputtering in consternation after finishing Chasing the Dragon… I am not sure how to sum up how I feel, or even how I actually do feel. The book is well written as all T.K. Leigh’s books are, she has skills! She absolutely wrecked me with Heart of Marley and Heart of Light. Chasing the Dragon is full of intrigue and suspense, and as it involves a government conspiracy – and as it is our government - I can’t decide if the good guys are actually good, or if the bad guys are actually bad… the details are revealed ever so slowly with conflicting information… my head is spinning. The romance progressed with a scorching sensual tease, amounting to a weeks’ worth of tantalizing foreplay before culminating into the sizzling, combustible, and mind-blowing merging of bodies at the 60% point. After which, they were allowed a brief respite to be happy, but then - arg – cliffhanger! I despise cliffhangers! They are a pox, a curse, an evil and diabolical plan that I find worse than screaming children on an airplane! But damn, I am hooked… snared… truly invested in this story. Needless to say, I have muttered some of my favorite expletives as I huff and puff and pound out this review - some of them have been used repeatedly… But please, sigh, please sign me up for Book 2, like… now would be good...
