Mischa Barton's Lawyer Declares 'Victory' as Court Bans Alleged 'Revenge Porn' & Orders Ex to Keep His Distance

Mischa Barton‘s ongoing lawsuit against a former boyfriend has come to a victorious end.

The O.C. alum and her lawyer, Lisa Bloom, went to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday for a hearing in the case against her ex, who allegedly tried to sell sex tapes of her in an act she and her legal team had deemed “revenge porn.”

Following the court hearing, Bloom, who has been representing Barton in the case, took to Twitter to announce the ruling that was granted in their favor.

“COURT VICTORY today with Mischa Barton,” Bloom captioned a smiling photo of herself and Barton standing hand-in-hand outside of the downtown courthouse. “Distribution of the explicit images banned, ex stays 100 yards away forever.”

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, Bloom said, “Mischa did not consent to the release of any such photos or videos. We went into court and obtained court orders barring anyone from trafficking in images like this of Mischa.”

“Today we have won an important agreement, which permanently blocks the dissemination of these images,” it continues. “All explicit photos and videos of Mischa must be handed over to me immediately. Her ex must stay 100 yards away from her today, tomorrow, and forever. And the court will retain jurisdiction over the case in case we need further enforcement.”

The statement continues, “I am proud to declare victory for Mischa. She did this not just for herself, but for all women and girls. Mischa wants everyone to know that we have the right to control our own bodies and decide whether or not to have explicit photos out there for the world to see. If a woman wants to do that, fine. If she doesn’t, fine. The choice is hers and hers alone.”

Reports surfaced in March that a sex tape (of Barton and her ex, with whom she was “in a brief relationship” that has since ended) was allegedly being shopped around to pornography companies. Barton quickly retained Bloom, who issued a statement on behalf of the actress on March 15, announcing that they plan on prosecuting the alleged “revenge pornography” peddler under “every available civil and criminal law.”

Speaking with Dr. Phil McGraw on an episode of The Dr. Phil Show at the end of March, Barton said her former lover was aiming to ruin her through what she called “complete emotional blackmail.”

“It was a crime. It is a serious crime to tape people without their knowledge like that and I had made the mistake of putting myself in the situation with the person so I just removed myself as quickly as I could, and then it just continued to be complete emotional abuse after that for the last several, several months,” she explained.

She also recalled the alarming way she learned of the sex tape’s existence. “Somebody came up to me on the street … and said there’s something I need to tell you and I didn’t believe it at first, I couldn’t believe it,” the actress recalled. “Because I had loved this person and I didn’t think it was possible.”

Barton has slowly been returning to the spotlight after a traumatic year that included emotional turmoil and legal woes, including a hospitalization. Last month, she hit the Cannes Film Festival, where she glowed on the red carpet.

Also during her trip to France, Barton, who was standing strong and doing her best to enjoy life even as she prepared to face the aftermath of her past relationship one last time, was spotted kissing a mystery man during an evening out in Cannes.

The actress, who donned a floor-length, mustard-colored gown, was snapped cozying up to the handsome, dark-haired man, who sported blue slacks, a black blazer and a white button down, when the duo left a L’Oreal event together and cuddled up on the street.

Since returning from Cannes, Barton was photographed out and about with the same mystery man in Los Angeles on Friday. After enjoying lunch at Petrossian Paris in West Hollywood, the pair were affectionate and strolled hand-in-hand during a walk outside in the sunshine with Barton’s pups.
