Andy Griffiths is Australia’s most popular children’s writer. He is the author of over 20 books, including nonsense verse, short stories, comic novels and plays. Over the past 15 years Andy’s books have been New York Times bestsellers, won over 50 children’s choice awards, been adapted as a television cartoon series and sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
Andy is best known as the author of the much-loved Just! series and The Day My Bum Went Psycho. In 2008 Andy became the first Australian author to win six children’s choice awards in one year for Just Shocking!, smashing his previous record of 4 awards for The Bad Book in 2005.
In 2008 Andy and his wife Jill collaborated with The Bell Shakespeare Company on the popular and critically acclaimed theatrical production Just Macbeth! which was nominated for two Helpmann Awards. In July 2010 Just Macbeth!completed a return sold-out season at the Sydney Opera House before heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it received rave reviews. The book of the play was shortlisted in the children’s section of the 2010 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards.
Andy has had a long-standing collaboration with the multi-talented illustrator Terry Denton. Together they have produced theJust! series, the wildly popular The Bad Book and The Very Bad Book, the ridiculous illustrated guide What Bumosaur is That?, and the Seussian-inspired early readers The Cat on the Mat is Flat and The Big Fat Cow that Goes Kapow! Their latest book is The 13-Storey Treehouse (September 2011).
Just Shocking by Andy Griffith is really another installment in the Just Series. More down right comedy all raped up into a single book. Its a decent length too. Finally 'sige'. Its full of 10 different stories and other bits of nonsense that will keep you occupied for hours. Or until you've read the whole thing. This book includes 'Fun with a fire hose' , 'Balloons of doom' and '101 really dangerous things'. All of these stories are complete nonsense but still have a sense to them that makes them fell as if they really happened. Which is cool and kind of different to most other books of similar type in this sense. I would recommend this book to any one that enjoyed any of the other Just books or who just want a different and interesting story. But still I recommend it to people of age 10+.
The book "just shocking" written by Andy Griffiths, is a hilarious book, and my favorite book out of the "just" series. this book is about two young kids running around doing shocking and stupid things. The audience for this book would mainly be for kids in primary school, or really immature people like myself. There is a certain chapter in the book that never fails to make me crack up laughing, it is the stupidest yet funniest book ever!
The two main characters Andy and Danny venture through another book of stupid jokes, funny stories, embarrassing moments and another silly 101 dangerous things. As you may have already figured out, the genre for this book is very humorous!
This book has 10 chapters in it some of which being, "I am a ro-bot" where Andy tries to convince his parents that he is a robot and is only allowed to watch t.v. "lemonade roulette" in which Andy and Danny are at Andy's house, on a hot day and decide to shake up 1 out of six cans of lemonade, to see which one gets blasted in the face with lemonade. And my favorite, "fun with a fire hose" where they are standing in a park just thinking of menacing things to do to poor innocent people!
I thought that this book was great. There is a lot of imagination in this book. In this book Andy gets up to alot of mischief. He thinks that his best friend (Danny) is the craziest person on earth. I recommend this book!!
While this book was easy to read, I didn’t find the humour very funny at all. Mostly I just thought it was silly and it felt like it dragged out. The writing style is good, punctuation and grammar is excellent, the story just didn’t fit my liking at all unfortunately - mind you, I’m really not in the target audience for this book either. I’ll give it to my Ten year old foster brother and see if he likes it better than I did.
Oh my goodness if this wasn't the greatest series written for middle grade kids who want to be endlessly entertained then I don't know what is. These books are the most fantastic, imaginative, gross and wonderful stories, not to mention the illustrations! The book is filled with flip pictures, other smaller stories of cartoons across the pages and it is just SO entertaining. I have never laughed so much reading anything in my life, and despite being about twelve or so when I did read them all, I'm sure they'd still make me laugh just as hard now. Do your kids and yourself a favour and get hold of them all!
My favourite character in the book Just shocking is Andy, because the things he does and the way he thinks humours me for example he takes a cereal book and puts on his head and really thinks his a robot.
The most exciting part in the book is chapter 6 (A really really good excuse) because Andy was late to class and he had to explain to the teacher and his friends why he was late to class, and he said it all started with tight underpants......
I found this book called Just Shocking by Andy Griffiths too childish for me. It had ten different stories within the book. All the stories were really childish, one of the stories had one word a page!
The way he wrote a couple of the stories was stupid because every time someone started talking it would say 'Danny:'
This book got my attention it was fun and funny to read. I thought the book was good but not great. it was funny but different. The book was in diary form.
I like books in diary form becouse it makes it easer to read for me and it lookes sort of home made.
this book is book is a good one it it has 10 stories in it my favort of them is when andy makes a robot costume the he tells his pearents that he can only watch telliviosion so his pearents teach him a lesson by putting him in the closet with the vacume celanes.
Although i rate this book a four- the majority of primary boys rate this a five! Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton definitely take toilet humour and gross factor to a whole new level- and kids love it! If you have a boy you want to get reading - pick up anything by The Andy, Terry team.
This book was just some stories about shocking things you could probably do and my favourite was the balloons of doom. There were two choices and if you did the bad one you could die and the other one you could survive. Your toxic breath got mixed with your sisters perfume and nail polish.
