Rate this book
No good deed goes unpunished.

Riley Masters learns this the hard way when she finds a wallet and decides to do the right thing. But returning it will cost her much more than she bargains for.

Abandoned by her mother, raised by an indifferent father, Riley has accepted the fact that she would be alone always. She has no idea that a single act of kindness would propel her into a world where creatures that shouldn’t exist guard the human race from the demons that lurk in the shadows. That it will cost her the lives of those she loves while unearthing a destiny she never imagined with a man who is forbidden to love her. She finds passion, romance and the family she’d been searching for her entire life, but at what cost and what is she willing to sacrifice to find answers and happiness?

Octavian Maxwell has always known his place. He is a Caster, a Son of Judgment. His job is to protect the mortal world from the creatures plotting to destroy it. Instead, his world is shattered when a human girl walks into Final Judgment, a girl he has been searching for his entire life, a girl he is forbidden to ever touch. Being with her will break the oath he’s sworn to never love a mortal. But his heart has already found its mate and it refuses to let go.

Final Judgment… a place undetected, a gateway to evil and a legend that will undo everything anyone has ever known about our world.

This book irritated me because I wanted to like it so bad but there were just so many things wrong with it that I kind of ended up hating it. Oh geez where do I even begin? First off, I liked the idea of the premise of Octavian's family and their supernatural origins BUT the description of what they were and the entire supernatural world they guarded was so convoluted that I got confused and skimmed most of the description. One word: simplify.
I hated Riley. I just couldn't stand her. I know this is a bit harsh, but she reminded me a lot of Bella Swan. Until the very end she's incredibly weaker than her paramour and his touch can potentially kill her, there's a super powerful group of supernaturals that's going to condemn her to death for learning about them, she lives with her dad, and has serious codependency issues. Octavian's family is literally the only thing that kept me reading until the end. I adored the brothers. I might read the sequel for them alone but probably not.
One final complaint and then I swear I'm done: this is definitely not NA. Admittedly there was a lot of sexual tension between Riley and Octavian but there's one love scene at the end that is glossed over. It's really more a YA book. Nothing wrong with that, just make sure you're classifying your book in the right category.

Would I recommend it to a friend?: No
Did I/Would I buy it?: I bought it. It's $.99 on Amazon so you're not out much if you want to read it.
Will I read it again?: Once was enough.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!

I was not prepared in any way for what Airicka gave us with Octavian's Undoing. The synopsis, the teasers, the waiting, the waiting, the waiting.....nothing prepared me for what I just experienced!!

Ok - so I'm not one to write much about the intricate details of the storyline into my reviews, because, well....I want you all to experience the same surprises and gasps and shudders that I did. And, holy cow, will you get your fair share of those here!!

As we've become accustomed to reading in Airicka's writings, she writes vivid and amazing characters. Octavian's Undoing is no exception to this.

Riley Masters - our heroine. This girl is thrown into a world unlike any other that we could dream of. To learn one day, that angels and demons, Heaven and Hell, and a whole slew of other supernatural/paranormal things were REAL...And to find out that you're bound and yet forbidden to be with one of those said beings for the rest of your life. Not to mention that set male that you are bound to is a freakin' hot, demon hunting....well, I can't tell you EXACTLY what he is....

Octavian Maxwell - the eldest of the Maxwell brothers. A Caster...charged with "keeping the peace" so to speak...and Riley's better half. We are first introduced to Octavian with a series of descriptions of his backside...I mean....come on!! You know it's going to be good and that he's going to be just scrumptious when, out of the gate, we're talking about Octavian's gorgeousness. But beneath all that hunkiness...is one of my most favorite male leads of all time. I have it bad for Octavian Maxwell. Serious, loving, protective, and loyal through and through. What more could you want? (Did I mention that he's smoking hot??)

This is an adventure in New Adult writing for Airicka (a first), and honestly, I think she did it right. The sexiness is there, and it's not forced, and when things do happen....they just fit. I've read some other NA books where I felt like the authors went out of their way to fit in the more risqué moments. They feel forced. Not Airicka....she nailed it. She stayed true to her story (which is really the most powerful part of all this) and didn't rely on a bit more freedom with the sexiness to carry the book. The story carries the book....all the way....and then some.

Throughout the story of Riley and Octavian, Airicka introduces us to one hell of a supporting cast. Before I even get into the yumminess that are the Maxwell brothers, I will discuss their totally awesomesauce parents, Liam and Kyaerin. Now, while we don't get as many heart-to-heart moments with Mr. Maxwell, I do have to say that this is a man that I would TOTALLY want on my side. Powerful, smart, fair, and a heart that screams for his family. So, Kyaerin Maxwell has become one of my most favorite book "mom's" ever!! The woman just oozes elegance, but in a totally non-stuck up kinda way. She's chic, and smart, and gorgeous. She has a heart of gold and I loved seeing how the relationship between her and Riley changed and grew.

Ok - enough stalling, I gotta talk about the oh so schmexy Maxwell brothers. I originally thought I would be fair and just go next oldest in the clan to the youngest...but I wanna hold Gideon all to myself, so we'll go youngest and up instead.

Regulus Maxwell, or Reggie as we come to know him, is the youngest of the four Maxwell brothers. He's definitely charming, but in a way different from his older brothers.

Magnus Maxwell, one half of the twin brothers in the family. I am not going to lie, Magnus was not my favorite early on. He's still not....but I was asked to be patient, give him a chance, he'll "grow" on me....and all I can say, is if you find yourself thinking the same thing...do the same. Trust me on this one. Magnus is stern, serious, non-sentimental....a stickler for rules....there's a mystery as to why he is the way he is. It's like you know something happened there to make him the way he is....but we never really find out what.

Ok - and I have to hold my breath and fan myself a little before I talk about Gideon....sigh....Gideon Maxwell. Man oh man, does this boy have yumminess written all over him. Not only is he pictured as freakin' hot....the man's attitude and snarkiness make him that much more appealing!! He has some of the best one-liners in the book. I want to share them here so badly, but really, you need to read them in context to get the full affect!!

We're briefly introduced to two other important female characters that you'll want to take note of. Valkyrie and Daphne.

Valkyrie is a Caster like the Maxwell brother's...a smokin' hot, kick your ass, and take no shit, Caster. Are there sparks and sexual tension galore between her and one of above mentioned Maxwell brothers? Just wait and see.

And Daphne....I love Daphne. She's flighty in a way that almost comes across as borderline crazy. Her past gives her every reason to be the way she is. Now, Daphne is one of the few characters we meet that isn't supernatural in any way...something that doesn't seem to be important, but winds up being quite important.

Along with the good and gorgeous comes the scary and creepy. Between the whole cast of characters that spends their evening at Final Judgment (the bar/restaurant owned by the Maxwell family) and some really bad guys that make me shiver just thinking about....Airicka keeps the suspense coming. From creepy Billius, scary and manipulative Baron, and some other supernaturals....she'll keep you going "What the hey??!!"

I've read so many other paranormal books....a lot of really good ones....but, I have to say, Airicka just finds a way of putting her own personal spin and touch into this unbelievable world. The words she uses, the vivid descriptions of the surroundings and feelings of her characters...you will be fully immersed into the story and before you know it....it's 3AM and you're still up reading!! The pace of the book is perfect, and all-in-all, it's just well written.

I look forward to seeing what Airicka has in store for us with the rest of the Sons of Judgment Series.

And yes, I have dibs on Gideon....

Octavian's undoing was my undoing too. Omg.. Octavian and his brothers are hot hot hot I tell ya. I love octavian's handsome and old school attitude,. Gideon, well what can I say about him.. He's sexy funny and totally innopropriate. I love him. Yep, he's my favorite. Then you've got Marcus Gideon's twin. He' doesn't do sentimental, he's quiet but he has a caring side that you'll totally miss if you blink. Then you've got the youngest of the 4 Reggie. He is too cute in my opinion. This family is totally unconventional but once Riley falls into their lives every thing changes. And I do mean everything.

Riley is human and obviously just by me saying that the brothers aren't. Riley has had it rough all her 19 years. Her mother left her to take care of her father when she was 5. I say take care not because he's sick but because he's just given up on life. He sits and watches tv all day smoking and doing pretty much nothing else. Riley has had to support them. She dropped out of college and was forced to get a job just to keep their little apartment and some food in the fridge.

Riley was thrust into octavian's life just by being a decent person. She found his wallet on the ground and had to return it, even though she was tempted to take the money inside. I mean seriously, who wouldn't consider it..
She made it to Final Judgement. This is the restaurant that Octavian and his family owned. Well, at first glance that's what it seemed to be.

This story had me laughing so hard. I mean Gideon. Omg.. Yeah I know I said that before but once you read this you will totally understand.
His isn't your typical paranormal love story. Airicka introduces us to a whole different species of freaky.. There is so much to this new world you don't want to miss anything.. I was truly in ah.. It had me thinking of two of my favorite series ever it was that good.

You need to read this book. The only problem I had with it is the next book doesn't come out till next year. Oh yeah, I've already put in my two cents about that one. Lol love me some Airicka Phoenix books..

HOLY WOW, that is quite a book. Alright lets do this!!!

First and foremost: Airicka who is a peach (and i adore her as a person and author) asked if I would would give this an honest review in exchange for an ARC and obviously free copy. And since honesty is the best policy that is all i got for you. Honesty, and what i think are witty remarks but most likely i just think i am funnier than i actually am. So moving on? KAY!

Song Choice: I got a few for you this time, this was quite a big book so it deserves a lot of songs i think. So First off: "All I ask Of You" by Skrillex (ft. Penny), "Bloodstream" by Stateless, and "Hold You In My Arms" by Ray LaMontagne. So there you go, songs that i think can give you just a little inkling about the book.

First thoughts: WHERE TO START? WHERE TO START? This is quite a big book. The plot threw me through a couple hundred loops, it was smartly planned out and deceiving leaving the reader feeling as helpless as the characters. The characters! OH my! Well on top of the fact that the characters themselves were all uniquely written, separate but amazing personalities making you fall for each one of them, they came off the page and really developed into so much more than characters for me.

Plot: HOLY WOW (yup again) anyways! So I pride myself on having this awesome superpower, yes i have a superpower, yes its almost as cool as Superman's, meaning all of his: laser eyes, flying, strength, speed, x-ray vision *raising eyebrows suggestively* anyways! the point is this superpower i have is to guess what will happen, what sort of paranormal we might be dealing with and all that jazz, so pretty much i can figure out a book before the book even knows what its doing. ONLY here is the thing... Airicka (I swear i do adore you) TRICKS ME EVERY FREAKING TIME. everytime and i have officially given up trying to figure it out. so i suggest you do the same, cause when you think you will zag you will zig, and when you think you are going up you are actually doing down. Point is the plot (in my experience) is completely unpredictable in that good way. In the way that you will never stop being interested in this 531 page book of total awesomeness. Though there were points i did notice...how do i explain this... okay do you have like a word that you use to use like all the time? and you always used in papers, conversation, dreams? anyways Dude was that word it was thrown in somewhere around the middle used a bunch then disappeared. There see being honest! Now back to the fact that i really didn't care all that much because i loved this book.

ANYWAYS! I loved that certain things happened that were life-changing and it wasn't treated like it was no big deal. It was treated with the respect that was due, it was dealt with and not brushed over which happens a lot in books i know to keep things going and what nots but here is the thing Airicka managed to deal with stuff (can't say what) while also keeping the plot going. Is this a big book? Yup! Is it worth it? Yup! Does the pace of the plot remain fantastic? YUP! YUP! YUP!

Oh so! Also this is a big girl book as i like to call them. There are grow up moments in here. And I totally forgot to talk to the sexy parts, they were so spot on the scenes never felt forced, or out of the blue, or like i don't know how to say this right so i will try my best... its not overtly descriptive where the plot becomes about the sex, but its there enough you might need the AC on with a fan in front of you as well. In the cheesiest way possible to say this, its more about moving love than having sex.

Characters!

*oh i am excited about this. Usually I just do the MC girl and guy but this time...oh no.. i got to talk about the brothers!*

Riley: What a sweetheart! She is loyal to a fault to her father who is her only remaining parent as her mother left them. She has been taking care of her father and herself since she was about 5 years old. She is self-reliant but more than that she still understands the value of a dollar, but she is not so jaded that that she is willing to steal when finding a wallet stuffed with cash, some more cash, and credit cards, and some more cash and a convenient business card everything changes. Riley gets a fantastic job and meets the soon to be love her life. She really does deserve happiness but things aren't fair in life, and things don't come easily. Riley is strong though and she makes it through so much without becoming that girl, the one that needs someone to protect her, while she understands that she is not sometimes in position to save herself she does understand that. But she does do her best to stand up herself. She is amazing because she is so real for me. She is not a one-sided character that is accepting and happy go lucky. She fights with Octavian, she is funny, she is charming, she can be very sexy when need be ;). She is a multidimensional character.

Octavian: I know you are all just shaking with excitement to learn about him/read my thoughts about him. So Riley notice how i mentioned she was a multidimensional character well so is Octavian. When we first meet him he is rude, an ass, and overall grumpy! I thought we might be dealing with a brooding male lead, which don't get me wrong we all go through that phase, some girls dig that sort of thing. Me? Well i like my guy to do more than stare at me from across the bar giving any guy to looks at me the evil eye. I want him to be there with me, holding me close, messing around with me. While Octavian is very serious at first he grows into so much more. While he is fiercely protective of Riley, and his family he does have a sense of humor most of the time ;). He is loving and full of passion. He is one of those rare male leads that actually seems to have somewhat of self control which is shocking, and the fact that he does resist and thinks of Riley makes him all around swoon worthy. But not only is he emotionally awesome. Well physically...yum. Anyways when we finally get his POV, wow just wow, i loved him even more. I like reading in the guys POVs because it gives you so much more in-depth look at them. It worked amazing well for this. And his voice was separate from Riley's which was awesome all on its own.

The brothers! oh i am excited!

Gideon: Now he was my first love of the brothers. I love his humor, he is very suggestive and funny about it. He is sexy and also oh so dangerous. Though he honestly to me felt like the biggest mystery to be solved out of the brothers. While his twin Magnus has secrets to he seemed a bit more of an open book to me than Gideon. There is a lot about Gideon that i feel is not being said, there is a lot we have yet to learn and i am UNBELIEVABLY excited to read his story which is next btws. Gideon was, wow. He made me want to blush, giggle like a school girl, and all of the things in between.

Raggie: He was the little humorous brother in the beginning. He felt like the playful one the one that was always easy to be around. But like all of Airicka's characters in this book there was more to him. He started to change farther and farther into the book, he became more distant and more serious. He is dangerously protective but understandably so. He is scared but also more than that. but i can't say what.

Magnus: NOW he at first was more of an ass than Octavian, he doesn't really start to come forward til a little bit farther into the book like the other brothers who really start to shine right off the bat. He is crude, blunt and plain out a straight up asshole. Who actually became one of my favorite brothers. He shows compassion in a different way and once you figure it out you will see how much he really does care. While i don't understand his hatred from certain creatures, i am looking forward to learning more about him. He promises to be a very interesting character i am sure.

Octavian's parents: LOVED THEM they were sweet, especially his mother, goodness i want to give her a hug!

Kay the villains, dangerous and scary, i feel like we will be more and more of them later but since this was a first in the series this a lot of introducing which was fine cause it was done well and interesting.

The Ending: UM...not technically a cliffie but I am definitely aching for more.

That is all folks! Once again thank you Airicka this was a huge honor for me :)

Kay, kay kids, here is where i tell you that i have a blog, and you can look at other books by other amazing indie authors, you can also see how i felt about Airicka's other books. exciting? i think yes because here is the thing a friend does contemporary fic. and i do pretty much everything left over. ;) well anyways stop by if you want, don't feel like you need to. enjoy your day here is the link: http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp... we and i think the author's apperciate you

I have been a fan of Airicka Phoenix for a long time. Her books have the perfect combination of sass and sexy and I can't get enough of her couples. I have particularly enjoyed her mafia/ dark romance books as they showcase her dominant and commanding heroes. But quite honestly after reading the first book in her Sons of Judgement series, I am hooked!! I could not get enough of Octavian and Riley!

Without giving away any spoilers, what happens when returning a wallet full of money changes Riley Masters' life? In a span of one day she meets Octavian Maxwell and his loveable but fierce family. She knows there is something different about them but never could have imagined the truth. But when forces higher than them try to keep them apart, can Octavian and Riley fight for each other?

I thought this book was great. I loved Riley and Octavian's chemistry and deep sexual tension. It kept the reader on their toes and the pages flipping fast. More than that though I loved the banter and easy kinship between the brothers as it just made me want to keep reading!!

All in all this was a great start to the series. It was a little sweeter than what I've come to expect from this author but still fantastic. I look forward to reading Magnus' book next!! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

Plot: 3/5
Grovel: none
Cheating: none
HEA: yes

Worst Line: “This isn’t a book, Green-eyes. This is real and dangerous.”

Personal Review:
An unnecessarily complicated paranormal romance between a young adult and a mermaid.

Random Ramblings:
•Surprisingly witty start
•I had not expected her to be that young!
•Out of all mythical creatures I was not expecting that!
•Daphne was fun
•So many different creatures to remember…unnecessary and confusing
•Daphne and Reggie?
•She was an idiot for not letting him do it
•The story lost me towards the end
•So is Baron a goodie or a baddie?

Overall Feeling:

Me most of the book…

As found on: Octavian - lovers… Uhm Book-Boyfriends I mean...

' "The last thing she heard being murmured huskily into her ear was, "I would like nothing better than to set every inch of you on fire and watch as you burn in my arms." '
- Octavian's Undoing by Airicka Phoenix

I think I'm gonna start out with Riley and what I have to say about her because Octavian… No, I wanted to focus on Riley first. I have to say that I love her as a heroine because she is strong and sweet, especially if you take her background into consideration… She has a hard time at home with a father that seems more a failure than a father and mother that just left her without ever looking back.

Her father is the worst kind of jerk I can imagine. Besides the twist about him later in the book, I hate how ignorant he is of his daughter. The mother? Well, I better not start on the mother now because it just makes me so mad!

I really am Happy that Riley found a true friend in Daphne and I hope to read more about her and the way the friendship with Riley develops.

The Maxwell-family is the kind of family everyone wants to have. I love the brothers Magnus, Reggie and Gideon… Reggie the most though. They are all crazy and sweet and adorable, but somehow Reggie just jump right to my side, making me wish he could be like my best friend or so. Because, let's face it, Octavian gets the boyfriend-spot. He's so definitely a very worthy book-boyfriend.

I love how Octavian is ready to sleep fully covered just so he could be by her side. But then again, everything about Octavian just totally made me fall for him. I mean, the way he talked about Riley, the way he treated her, the way he worried for her, the way he wanted to protect her from anything and anyone… Seriously, if Airicka Phoenix ever tries telling you that any other of her guys is hotter than Octavian… Don't believe her. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE. PERIOD.

"His eyes were dark and hungry with a desire that burned her to her toes."
- Octavian's Undoing by Airicka Phoenix

Forbidden love is a topic that has been well used so far and yet I personally think that Airicka put a great twist on the topic… I loved every bit of this book and I can't wait for the second book of The Sons Of Judgement - series.

PS: I want to keep Octavian from myself. So, you all go and read, but STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY BOY. Thank you.

Riley she's just a sweet little thing, "I'm sorry and no offense, but I'd like to give it to him personally. There are some very important things inside and I'd feel better knowing he got them. Not saying that you wouldn't give it to him, but..." Octavian, he's well possessive maybe, "you dare out your hands on what's mine, Billius?" Octavian is nothing but honest (well in some instances), "I was shocked as hell to see you here, you, a human...my human in a place that could get you killed. I didn't want you to be where you are right now. I was trying to protect you." He looked down. "You should have listened to me." The way he talks, it's like melt in your panties way, "baby, I felt you. It took all my self-control not to turn around and pull you into my arms. Scared the hell out of me. Why do you think I didn't notice my wallet missing until I walked into the diner and say you there?" I mean REALLY melt in your panties, "you better stop or I'll show you what I can handle and I can promise it won't be slow or gentle." He's also so protective I mean no one messes with his woman, "she didn't mean to," Octavian hissed. "She's still a baby and still needs to learn how to control herself. You can't think she would ever hurt Daphne deliberately." Whelp get to writing Airicka I'm ready for Gideon's story.

Have you ever held on by a thread, and that thread becomes your lifeline, your hope? This is how I felt reading this book. Riley and Octavian's hope was my lifeline, what kept me turning the pages, wanting more. The amazing characters, thrilling plot and twists and turns throughout the story is the very foundation to a whole new written world. Without reading the teasers or excerpts floating around cyber space before reading the first page, I found myself drawn into the story. When finally deciding to read the book description at 12%, I had hoped to get some answers that were building from the beginning.

Airicka Phoenix's writing grabs your attention and there's nothing you can do, simply putting the book down is not an option. I've read her Touching Saga & Games of Fire. She pulls you into her written world, with emotions, wonderful characters, thrilling plots and tortures her readers with the unknown. I am definitely a fan for life. Anything she releases I will have in my hands. I would love to have a signed collection of everything she has out now and what she has to come. When you don't even read the description of a book before opening it to the first page, that should tell you something.

I've been a fan of Airicka Phoenix for a while now and have read all of her books. I was super excited when I found out Octavian's Undoing was out, so I went to buy it and started reading it right away. What an amazing story, I just couldn't get enough of the Maxwell Brothers. They are funny, strong, passionate. Airicka's way of writing, of expressing herself in every single word is almost perfect. The characters are unique and they all have their own way of making you fall in love with them. As I kept reading more into the story, it kept getting more and more intresting, more amazing. The story is magical, powerful and it took me into a world full of love and surprises. I highly recommend it to everyone. Riley Masters is amazing and in the Maxwell family, she finally has found the family she always wanted to have. 2014 is too long of a wait for the second book to come out, but I'm trying to wait very patiently for when it finally comes out. Thumbs up Airicka, brilliant story, love it, love it, love it.....

I had a great time reading the author’s other books, The Voyeur Next Door and Transcending Darkness, so I really wanted to love this one too. The world building and paranormal backstory were tough to follow and I found myself skimming my way through to the end. The characters were also too young for me. I’m not a fan of NA and couldn’t connect with a 19 year old heroine. I also would’ve like some steamy sex to match the paranormal action, but it was a very PG read. I’m very picky when it comes to paranormal and I honestly thought Octavian’s “secret alter ego/mythical creature” was kinda goofy and not necessarily my idea of hot.
I still enjoy A.P. and will continue to read her work, but I’ll stay away from this particular series.

first of all I just wanted to say that it was refreshing to have a good sized book to read. Not many books are like that anymore. I miss long books.

with that said....it didn't feel like a long book, I was dreading the last 100 pages because I knew the end was coming and it I didn't want it to be so.

Wonderfully written. A true master of words that you can see perfectly in your mind.

I truly TRULY loved this book. One of my new favorites by far. I have read A LOT of books. I am confident enough to have it in my top 10 books that I have in my stack(or elibrary... whatever).

Be prepared to take this journey, an adventure if you will, of a different world. Love, death, fighting to love and fighting to either die...or live.

I really do not know how to start this. Can i just say firstly, WOW! This book is fan-freaking-tastic and as the heading suggests, is probably hands down Airicka's best work to date! I really did not know what to expect going into this. I first thought this book would be something steampunk, then i thought it would be something sexy and erotic.. but nope. It is sexy, but not all about sex. The characters and storyline draw you in and you can't help but fall in love with those Maxwell boys, especially Octavian (I call dibs!).
This is addictive writing at its best, as with all of this author's work and i can't wait to own a copy of this in paperback form!

Great start to the series...Full review to come!

Update 12/13/13:

Hold onto your hats ladies, Octavian is here and ready to make just about everything either melt or explode. I'm new to Airicka Phoenix, and I might say she has won we over. I definitely need to check out more of her books. That said, my actual rating for this book would be 4.5 stars. There were some minor things, which I'll go into shortly, but overall this was an astounding book, and a must read. I also think it needs to be said that this is definitely NA. I mean it could be considered YA, but it would be pushing it, so keep that in mind.

I'll go over what I didn't like first to get that out of the way. One of my main problems was that I thought it was a little lengthy. There were some things, mainly in the beginning, that I thought could have been cut out, and as a result the story would have been shorter. Also, I was a little confused about the world at first. However, that got cleared up a little later in the novel, so that wasn't much of a worry. The only other thing I had a small problem with was I wanted some more steamy scenes ;) But that's it, which shows how much I enjoyed this book. There weren't many errors, which is something that even the huge publishers have, and for a self-published book to have little to no errors should get a huge round of applause.

Moving on to the good stuff! The main character, Riley, was excellent. I felt she was very relatable and real. Even her reaction to finding out everything was believable. Riley didn't just say, "Okay, what's next?" She said she needed a few days to sort this out in her head. I honestly loved this because this is a natural reaction. It's how a normal person would act (well maybe not a normal person, but if that person would read a lot of supernatural books, then it's a normal reaction). Octavian, I'm claiming him right now. This boy is H-O-T hot with a capital H. I loved him so much, from the very minute he was introduced to the very last page of the book. He was incredibly genuine and endearing that you can't not love him. The one thing I absolutely adored about the relationship between Riley and Octavian was that it wasn't rushed. Riley took time to sort out her feelings, and didn't plunge right in all gung-ho was a brilliant addition to this book. Another thing I loved, they didn't say the l-word right away. Again, this relates back to the sorting out of feelings, but they took time to get to know each other and see what happened. Not only was this incredibly realistic, but it was also a nice change of pace from other books.

Now onto those other Maxwell brothers. I absolutely adore Gideon! I mean, who wouldn't love a Latin quote-spouting, sarcastic, witty guy! Plus, he's scrumptious, so win-win. Magnus and Reggie were also great, and they never fell to the wayside. Another addition to the series is Daphne (love her name by the way). At first I wasn't sure what she as even doing in the story, because she appeared and disappeared in the course of a chapter, but she comes into play later on, and it has serious repercussions. I can't wait to see how her character plays out.

There are some times this books drags a bit in the beginning, but the story quickly picks up pace, and never lets you go. I had to force myself to stop reading to study for my finals. But trust me, it was incredibly hard to tear myself away from this book. The epilogue left me wanting so much more, and I can't wait to see how things progress in the next book. Octavian's Undoing is unpredictable, sexy, and action packed. Ms. Phoenix definitely puts her own unique spin on the supernatural creatures in this novel, and I definitely can't wait to read Gideon's Promise! Happy reading :)

This book was amazing. I didn’t know what to really expect when first reading it but WOW is all I can say. Airicka Phoenix came up with some great and interesting characters in this book. I love seeing a Authors imagination coming up with things you would never think of. Thankfully she does a great job at explaining every one of them so you can understand better.

Riley is a sweet 19 year old struggling to keep a roof over her and her dead beat dads head. Her mother left them when she was 5 and she has had to grow up extremely fast. Her father does absolutely nothing but sit in a chair watching TV leaving her to pay all the bills. She stumbles upon a wallet while leaving the post office which brings her to Final Judgement. Getting a job there as a waitress and her world begins to change.

Octavian is a Selkie. Only way to compare it is to a Mermaid type but not exactly. Octavian is a hot man who looks in his twenties but is way way older. His family are the gatekeepers to Hell for the North. They run Final Judgement which is a restaurant/bar for demons waiting for a night pass to get out of Hell for a little while. Humans are not suppose to be able to find Final Judgement and they only reason they can figure out why Riley did is because she is his mate.

These two go threw a lot of crap trying to be together. Riley taking the most of it. But in the end they always figure out some way to stay together. They show true love. There is nothing that either wouldn’t do for the other. Octavian is truly a sweetheart which I didn’t think was possible with how he acted at the beginning.

Kyaerin (Ki-ren) and Liam or the parents of Octavian, Gideon, Reggie, and Magnus. This family is funny as can be. Kyaerin and Liam are so sweet and understanding. The parents that so many wish for. I love Octavian of course but out of his brothers Gideon was the best. He was funny and sweet and just all kinds of crazy. I can’t wait to read more about him.

There are a lot of different characters. So many I can’t name them all. Even if I tried you would read this wondering what the heck I was talking about. This is truly a book that you have to read to understand what anything means. I started out trying to do my normal reviews where I tell a little about the book but I kept getting stuck around certain creatures. I knew that when anyone read it they wouldn’t understand what I was saying. This book had fighting, laughter, and love. This shows how real families stick together and help each other no matter what the consequences are. I really loved this book. It is another great book by Airicka Phoenix. I definitely recommend this book. It is a must read.

I was given this book as an 'ARC' in return for an honest review. I just finished reading it, overall I think it took me about 10 hours from "cover" to "cover".

Octavian is a Caster, a judge of sorts for Creatures of the Veil. One of the 3 rules passed down from Heaven is to never touch a human. Then in walks Riley and oops, he couldn't keep his hands off her. They are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame, they can't seem to stay away and fall for each other quickly. Everything is stacked against them it seems and just when something gets worked out, another HUGE kink in their plans and lives happen. Both of them are willing to risk anything, except each other, to save the lives of the other. In the background, there's a war brewing between Demons and Angels and it seems the two of them are caught right in the middle, along with Octavian's family and anyone else they love.

****Possible Spoilers****

I loved this story. I couldn't believe the twists and turns it had and would be almost gasping for air as I read about their fight for survival. I was shocked beyond words when learning of "what" Octavian and his family are. I did NOT see that surprise coming. I loved the humor and the wit throughout the book. I was laughing so much through this book at the one liners and sarcastic remarks. And the romance, while there was some sexy parts, they weren't too horrible that someone who didn't want to read them, couldn't skip over them. I just have to say that the parts I read were pretty tastefully done and steamy.

My favorite parts of the book? Octavian's banter with his brothers. The twins absolutely cracked me up to no end. I loved the way his parents treated each other...with reverence and love. Daphne was a very welcomed surprise. I couldn't quit figure out her story, hadn't guessed it, until it was revealed, but I thoroughly enjoyed her part in the story. Honestly though, I can't remember a "favorite part" because I enjoyed the entire book and would end up quoting it in its entirety. Great job, Airicka! Now hurry up with book 2! LOL!

Riley Masters is a 19 year old girl who lives with her “distant” dad. She pays the bills, but is still behind on them. She starts looking for a job, but ends up at the post office to send a bill out. She “runs” into Octavian (whom she does not know, yet).
Riley finds a wallet on the ground after getting out of the post office and goes to an address that is mentioned on a business card in the wallet. There, she finds a bar and diner. The owners offer her a job position after they offer to let her stay so she can return the wallet to its rightful owner, Octavian. When Octavian sees her, he is mad. He wants his parents to take back their job offer or better yet, for Riley to quit.
Riley does not quit. She stays. Octavian does not quit warm-up to her right away.
Riley soon finds out that this diner, is no ordinary diner, and the owners are not ordinary. They are protectors of humans. They say what “demons” can roam the earth for a short period of time before returning to hell.
Octavian eventually learns who Riley is to him. He wants to be with her, but it is forbidden for him, a Caster to fall for a human.
Octavian has to make a decision, to protect Riley from his world and being killed, or risk her being killed.

To say that Octavian’s Undoing was good, does it no justice. It was amazing. The characters were amazing, especially Octavian and his feelings. Octavian wants to be with Riley yet he can’t. The way he protects Riley is amazing. The rest of Octavian’s family also protects Riley and they become her family because her dad is not there for her and her mom left when she was little.
A job well done Airicka Phoenix.

Airicka Phoenix’s writing just magnifies with every new book. I don’t think that woman could write a bad story. I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns in the story. I went in thinking Octavian was one thing and was shocked and thrilled to see he was not what I thought he was. And man can this woman conjure up some delicious boys!
Riley Masters's life is just about surviving, trying to support her father and herself from a very young age.She wasn't looking for a relationship or love but she is thrust into one when she stumbles upon Final Judgement. When she does a good deed of returning a lost wallet, she comes face to face with the mate she is destine to be with,Octavian Maxwell. As hard as Octavian and Riley try, they can not deny the pull that draws them together. Now Octavian and his family must find a way to protector from those who see her as a threat.
How can one simple girl be such a great threat? She is a human who has uncovered a supernatural world where humans are not allowed to be touched by a Caster. It can upset the balance of things and is against the treaty that holds evil at bay.
But evil lurks in every corner.Just when Riley finds what she has been wanting her whole life(acceptance, love, family)it may just be ripped out from her.Can the Maxwells find a way around this law that threatens to tear Riley and Octavian apart?

Airicka Phoenix has done it again! She has given us a story with characters you can't help but love, a plot that keeps you guessing that has the perfect amount of romance and angst, action - with a hero you love (and want for yourself) and a villian you love to hate. Which all adds up to a story that you never want to end! She leaves you begging for more. When you start an Airicka Phoenix book you know you are in for a treat. She has become one of my favorite authors. She is an amazing story teller that will always give a twist that you never saw coming. Octavian's Undoing has already become one of my favorites, along with all of Airicka's other books ( Touching Smoke series and Games of Fire) and I am impatiently waiting for the second book in the series. I won't even get into the story because I do not want to spoil anything. What I will say is the blurb doesn't even do the story justice. But I think she does this on purpose to add to the, "wow, never saw that coming" factor. Read this book and find out for yourself what an amazing author Airicka Pheonix is. And do yourself a favor and "friend" her on facebook as well because she is just as entertaining there as in one of her books. Shit... I think I just became a fangirl lol

I've had this book for a while now on my TBR shelf and I took the plunge and although I really enjoyed it. I can give it only 3 Stars.

The blurb of the book sounded really interesting and there was a lot of depth to the story as well as the characters.
Riley Masters has been looking after her father since she can remember while standing at the post office she sees a hunk of man but doesn't think about it any further. Until she walks out of the post office and finds a wallet with a lot of money in it and a business card she decides to do the right thing and well bring it back to the guy who lost it. She drives to a diner called "Final Judgement" which is a bit creepy.

That is where she meets the guy from the post office who oddly enough lost his wallet Octavian Maxwell. The whole Maxwell family is extremely good looking. Octavian is the oldest, then the twins Magnus and Gideon come next and the youngest is Regalus.

There was a lot of twists and turns in the book that I couldn't have guessed others I did guess this is still a good book and I can't wait for the next installment to come out.

Way to put a good romance into a silly paranormal mess. I'm not sure what was going on with the supernatural aspect, but the characters were likable and the family elements were pretty spot on.

Let me start by saying the romance in this novel was sweet and believable. It built slowly, even if it did begin a bit strangely. The physical nature of their relationship was a bit lacking. I mean, if you're going to wait until the final chapters of this very long book to bring these two together, then make it epic. It wasn't. Boo.

The paranormal was a bit absurd. It's like the author did a mash up of all the popular para romances, and to mix it up a bit, she brought in the one supernatural being that was not included in many books. There's a reason why they aren't included. Because they're more for children's books and fairy tales. I almost laughed out loud when the reveal of the type of creature Octavian was came about. Silly premise indeed.

However once I got past that (and the few typo/spelling/grammar mistakes), I really liked their dynamic. I loved their family and will read Gideon's book soon.

First off I'd like to state for the record that Airicka Phoenix is by far one of my all time favorite authors! Every story she writes is so wonderfully spun that it takes you into her world of imagination and holds you in a place you don't want to ever leave.

Octavian's Undoing was amazing! When I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review I knew I was going to be reading a great book but what I got was so much more. The story was very well written and original. A very heart wrenching and soul stealing story that captures you from chapter one and holds you to the very end.

I love, love, loved all of the characters very much. Each one had me laughing at times and swooning at others. All of them were a perfect contrast and compliment to each other.

If I could I would give this book ten stars and it still wouldn't be enough. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone looking for a new favorite read to steal their heart!!!

Octavian's Undoing by Airicka Phoenix was so unbelievably awesome....I literally couldn't put it down. It's a good thing that my boss was out of the office today because I spent all day sitting at my desk reading this book.
The plot was so interesting and had some twists that absolutely blew my mind. As a fan of paranormal books, I loved how this book included all kinds of creatures and yet managed to create a unique view of their world. The characters in this book were so amazing and realistic and well developed. I think I fell in love with all 4 of the sexy brothers. (I can have 4 brothers as my book boyfriends, right? There's nothing wrong with sharing the love...lol.)
I know this book just came out but I'm already dying for the next book in this series. I can't wait to see what crazy adventure and smoking hot romance Ms. Phoenix comes up with next for the Sons of Judgement.

This is my first Airicka Phoenix book, and let me just complain that I should have started reading her works a long time ago!!!

I loved Riley. She was sweet and strong. Not really a kickass kind of girl, but she had her own quiet strength, which came out in her determination and stubbornness and how she shouldered responsibility.

I loved Octavian too. He was badass enough for the two of them, and yet he was tender and sweet.

My favorite thing about this book was the big Addam's family kind of house! Meeting Octavian Maxwell and his family was loads of fun.

I'm so looking forward to the next book. Gideon was one of my favorite's of the 4 brothers, and the next book is titled "Gideon's Promise." I'm hoping he gets matched up with Valkyerie. That would be the perfect poetic justice for him.

Airicka PhoenixI found it very hard to put down, and a really good paranormal/romance read. It was based around sexual tension, awesome family love, friendship, paranormal education to "a human"...topped off with violence, nasty angels and evil demons.

Although there were battles, I was a bit disappointed that the Casters weren't providing more bloodthirsty, butt-kicking revenge on their enemies. They seem a bit too polite and accepting and I like my heroes to be super badass and to win the day! With a 500 page book I wasn't expecting to have to wait for another to hopefully feel their wrath. *But you can't not love the Maxwells!*

Overall ~ well written, leaving a thirsty desire to snatch up Book #2. Well done Airika Phoenix!!!

Airicka Phoenix has done it again giving us readers another awesome read. I couldn't put the book down unless that dang Kindle decided to die on me. Now on to the review. :)

Riley Master was Abandoned by her mother and living with her dad trying to get by monthly. Then one day she decides to do a good deed and she gets more then what she bargain for. Now you have Ocatavian and his family doing what they have to do as caster's but Ocatavian is drawn to Riley but the problem is he ain't allow to be with a human its forbidden. He tries his best to stay away but he just can't. What will become of Riley and Ocatavian on their journey . So much stuff happens to the point I know I will end up telling spoilers and we don't want that now.

Holy Bloody Hell!!! Airicka Phoenix is a genius! I love Octavian's Undoing more than ice cream ( yes I know that 's saying something major)

Riley is such a sweet and caring young lady.

Octavian is strong and moody.

They are perfect for each other. But it's against the law.

I want to say so much about this book but I don't want to spoil it for you,

Airicka has yet again created an amazing series with so much promise of being a smash hit. Love, danger, excitement, funny as Hell dialogue, there's no stopping it! And the way she concluded this series premier....cliffhanger mos def!

I seriously can not wait for Gideon's Promise to come out. I claim him as my BBF ( Book Boyfriend )

Well played Airicka...Well played =)
