Town of Wilton now offering Rapid Renewal Service

1 min read

AUGUSTA — Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap has announced that the Town of Wilton has launched Rapid Renewal, the Department of the Secretary of State’s online service for the renewal of motor vehicle registrations.

Rapid Renewal is an e-commerce service allowing citizens to conduct business with municipal government and state government in one seamless online transaction.

While municipal participation in Rapid Renewal is optional, the service has now grown to 205 municipalities and has seen 1,166,209 transactions processed to date. The Town of Wilton will accept payments via e-check and credit card.

The Rapid Renewal service is currently offered by cities and towns from York County to Aroostook County, with populations ranging from Glenwood Plantation’s three citizens to more than 64,000 in Portland. Through Rapid Renewal, citizens are able to quickly and easily renew their vehicle registrations and pay their municipal excise taxes online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Rapid Renewal may be accessed through www.sosonline.org, the Secretary of State’s site for online services.

  1. So if the website takes Visa/MC can the town office somehow take advantage of this? Wilton Town Office still can’t process cards; would be nice. Regardless this is awesome news!

  2. I agree, the town really needs to get with the rest of the world and process credit / debit transactions.

  3. Folks! Credit cards costs money! Bad thing for a municipality that’s funded by taxpayers. Let’s save money not spend more

  4. The Town of Wilton is looking in to offering debit and credit cards. However, the fees for the use of credit and debit cards will be passed on to the resident using the service, not the town. We know this will be a hardship on some, so we are looking for the best program for both the town and the residents.
For those using credit or debit cards through the on-line Rapid Renewal Service, those fees will be passed on to the person using the cards. Checks (providing the routing and account numbers) may be used on line at no charge to the resident.
