Victoria Beckham says husband David is keeping one arm free from tattoos so he has space to honour the couple's future children - which the pair hope will include a baby girl.

Speaking at the Glamour awards, Mrs Beckham told the Daily Mail: "Yes it's true. I think David is keeping his arm free for - hopefully - the name, or names, of our daughter or any other children we have.

"Of course we would absolutely love to have a little girl but at the moment our lives are so full. So much is going on, we're just concentrating on now and the move to LA."

She added: "But if in a few years' time when Cruz is all grown up, and we're so blessed, then we can start thinking about having more children."

Louis Malloy, who has tattooed David for the past seven years, has received instructions to that effect.

He told the Daily Mail: "David told me he has left his entire left arm for a daughter. He has been saving it in case they had a girl. It would be dedicated to the new baby and done on a theme like the existing one."

In March, Beckham had his entire right arm covered in a cloud and cherub design over his shoulders with numerous other tattoos on his arm and wrist to make one continuous piece of "artwork".

That design consisted of two "symbolic" pieces which apparently reflected the "deep turmoil he feels about going to LA."

Malloy, who has tattooed Beckham for the past seven years, met Beckham in Manchester at the weekend ahead of his return to the national squad for their away game against Estonia in a Euro 2008 qualifier.

Beckham apparently asked Malloy to come to the city's Lowry Hotel to "celebrate" his return to the squad by completing the tattoo on his right arm with more cloud designs reaching further down his wrist.

Malloy said: "I was trying to get him not to have it too low down. Obviously it is creeping down towards the hand and I didn't want it to be too visible. I was cautious because I just didn't want people to criticise him."

Speaking of Beckham's desire to have a daughter, Malloy said he did not believe they would go so far as to adopt to ensure they could have a girl.

He said: "They won't be adopting a child. I'd be quite surprised if that was the case. He never mentioned anything about that to me."

Malloy also claimed that far from hating the look, David's former Spice Girl wife Victoria appreciates her husband's tattooed body.

"Victoria likes the tattoos, I know she likes them. When I did the (most recent) one she was there, she watched it all and she liked it."

Curiously, he added: "No way did they sneak off and have a big row about it. She has come to accept that he likes them and that's that. Having tattoos doesn't make him any different as a person. It was how she always thought other people would perceive them that worried her. I'm absolutely convinced he will have more work done."

The Real Madrid maestro already has numerous tattoos, including on his right arm, across his shoulders, neck and the forearm of his left arm.

But it is the 2-ft long one which is etched down the whole of his right arm as far as his wrist which really catches the eye.

Done in March this year, the tattoo on his right arm is so big and the design so intricate it needed to be done over two sittings by Malloy.

Also on his right arm he has the words "Perfectio In Spiritu", meaning "spiritual perfection", and the roman numerals VII - relating to the number seven shirt he wears for England.

On his left forearm he has his wife Victoria's name, written in Hindi.
