Hi folks!
Got the galaxy s last week only to find out this annoying thing with the headphones. Google brought me here.
It would have been a deal breaker for me too.
I'll make the adapter cable, but before I do, can anyone please confirm that if I use an ordinary headphone (without buttons and mic), I'll be able to use the headphones to listen and the phone mic to talk?

Changing the phone jack for the Vibrant would've been an ideal solution to me, but it seens that the issues with the proximity and light sensors are not ideal.
So here's a suggestion: maybe there's a way of rewiring the original i9000 jack so it can have the pin-out we want.
The same company sells those two:
globaldirectparts.com/OEM-Samsung-Ear-Speaker-Flex-Cable-p/smsng6087160.htm
And if that doesn't work, there's a third way: put just the vibrant jack on the i9000 sensor.
The international shipping is quite expensive (US$ 35,00), and I'll not spend US$ 50,00 only to find out it can't be done. Shipping to the US is a bit more affordable.

PS: distortedloop, did you ever posted that video? I was curious to know if it's difficult to change the components. It's a simple swap, or do you have to use the soldering iron?
PS2: flashing the kernel that kar200 said, really doesn' work?
