Does PageRank Matter on Your Own Site?
Hey Friends,
A Quick PR Definition..
A pagerank (or PR) is measure of importance according to Google.
But does a high PR ranking matter on your own site?
Unless you're giving away links on your site, then the answer is no.
For online marketers, PR is only considered when searching for high quality backlinks. The higher the PR, the better the backlink.
So at the end of the day.. focus on other people's page rank and not your own.
Lookin' out for ya!

I agree with the sentiment particularly as the PR varies so much. However there are still people out there who value the PR and that means we can not ignore it. The idea is not to overly focus on it right as you may not be able to change it even if you try as Google no longer emphasize it Right?
mmm can't say I agree with you on that one...maybe the toolbar PR? But even then I don't agree with that totally. Last "PR Update" was in april 2010....but PR changes on a daily? Weekly? Basis... therefore in theory PR is worth a lot and PR on others website might matter...but really shouldn't since it's not a true statement about how good a site is...although their PR might be 5, it might be false as this is information as of april 2010...just food for thought...
nice blog Jay, and I am cutting my skateboarding session on the 1/2pipe short today to catch your WAbinar class, yep, it's that important.
Curious. I've never aggressively gone after PR, except for putting a URL in some general directory sites with a high PR, and now, publishing in Article Directories and blog postings. What is the primary thing Google considers for a good PR? Content? When one of my site started out, it had a PR of 4 within a year?????? Now it's back down to 1???????, with more product and content. This is an academic question, however, I'm very interested in your answer.
Can be good for bargaining purposes though if you do want to give exchanges. Also the only other place it can make a difference is if you are selling your site, although what you say is completely true people are always looking for sites with PR to buy and even more so if they are earning and have a PR, just adds to the perceived value whether founded or not. Good post.
