AMC’s The Walking Dead is adding to its sizable cast.
American Horror Story alum Alexandra Breckenridge has joined the zombie drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Sources tell THR that the actress, whose credits include Save Me and voice roles on Family Guy, will recur in season five with an option to be promoted to a series regular in season six. While specific details about Breckenridge’s character are being kept under wraps, the casting breakdown described the role of “Samantha” as an attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate woman with a vulnerable side. She’s a mother with a bohemian spirit, and a talented artist. AMC declined comment other than to say the casting breakdown — and character name — may both likely be a placeholder.
Season five now finds Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group back out on the road, where they’re likely to encounter several new people — with additional characters from Robert Kirkman‘s comic series expected to be introduced.

“Even though they’re on the road, there’s going to be a wide variety of locations this year. When they are on the road, we will see the whole swath of life. There will be rural and there will be suburban and there’ll be urban and everything in between,” showrunner Scott M. Gimple told THR after the season five premiere. The next location to come in the comics is the Alexandria Safe-Zone Community, the longest-running residence for the group yet.
Breckenridge joins a rapidly growing cast for the deadly zombie drama. The series currently features 17 series regulars — its most ever — and recently added Go On alum Tyler James Williams in a mysterious role as Noah. Also factoring into the mix is Lennie James‘ Morgan, who made a surprise appearance in the post-credits scene during the season five premiere. The Wire alum and new series regular Seth Gilliam, who plays comics character Father Gabriel, will make his debut Sunday.

Neither Noah, nor a character named Samantha exist in either the comics or any of The Walking Dead video games.
Meanwhile, casting is still underway for the role of “Donna,” described as a formidable, respected and influential journalist with integrity, strength and occasionally wise-ass humor. She’s a leader, a mother and someone who reads people very well. Three-time Emmy nominee Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal) has been rumored to be in the running for the role, though AMC has said that’s not true.
Breckenridge is repped by Gersh, Mosaic, and attorney Joel McKuin.
