Runway Watch: The Spring Cropped Pant

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Ready or not, the springtime weather is just about to hit.

The runway for this spring was clad with odd shapes and graphics, floral prints, fringes, and interesting new shapes. Needless to say, this is one of the most eclectic and diverse list of spring trends that the runway has seen in quite a while. But which ones will stick?

Remember the late 90’s and your tight capri jeans? No, they are not making a comeback (whew!) but the cropped pant is back in a feverish new flavor. This spring’s runway was hit hard by cropped pants of all shapes: low rise, high rise, tailored, straight and my new favorite, the wide crop. There really is a cropped pant for any size, height and build.

Here are a few ways to wear them:

1) Streamlined: While the weather is still a little chilly in the evenings and the early mornings, pair a silky crepe wide cropped pant with a long trench or roomy coat for a sleek and effortless silhouette. Where can you find them? Try Ann Taylor (and Ann Taylor Loft), Banana Republic, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and J Crew for quality finds.

2) Wide Leg: Proenza Schouler destroyed the game with this one. This image from a Glamour article shows that you really can have comfy chic all in one pant. Cue your favorite black booties.

Uncomfortable with the wide leg crop? Try a long Palazzo pant:

3) Nantucket: Update that white jean with a white crop, brown wedges and flowy top. Feel like you’re by the water yet?

4) Working trendy: Don’t you love to be the girl in the office or at your internship who is constantly getting complimented on her exceptional work attire? Carry your blazers over from the winter and update your look with a sleek black crop. Disclaimer: we can’t all look like Anja Rubik, but what an outfit.

5) Furiously floral: This may be the most exciting cropped pant to hit the runway and is definitely my personal favorite. This pant is flirty, feminine and just absolutely adorable. Think brunch, mall outings, or a warm spring walk in the park. Break out your most flattering white peplum or crisp white button down and statement gold accessories.

6) Perfectly Printed: With so many different graphic shapes and textures that designers all across the board threw at us, there are so many options for prints. They may not be appropriate for your day job, but definitely fun to pair with a cute wedge or heel for a night out. Channel your inner Serena Van Der Woodsen and find a bold crop that speaks to you.

Happy almost spring!
